Free Music Notes for In My LifeFree Music Review: MORE EXOTIC BEATLES Hit: 5 Stars
I collect Beatles covers and obviously with so many having done them you sort out the wheat from the chaff. So far I've managed to avoid the Godawful version of Hey Jude by Wilson Pickett but nothing on this CD is quite that bad. Its surprising really that George Martin didn't locate artistes he'd worked with at the time of the Beatles, such as Gerry Marsden,Mary Hopkin,Cilla Black or any really who the Beatles wrote a song for.It would have been interesting to hear a reunited Peter & Gordon And here is a type of Beatles tribute not done much since Peter Sellers and thats Spoken Word. I would say this is a better collection than Sgt Pepper Knew My Father yet most of it belongs to the Exotic Beatles series. Incidentally Goldie Hawn once made an album of Country Music
Free Music Review: The most pleasant surprise In My Life! Hit: 5 Stars
Having a heads up by seeing the PBS special on "In My Life" I was eager to purchase the CD. The various artists and tracks make this a listening pleasure. While, one can listen to Goldie Hawn only once, many more of the tracks are sure to be repeat pleasures. (Perhaps the track reserved for Billy Connelly could have been put to better use.) I am thrilled Sir George Martin chose to include two of his own works, as a composer he is a delightful combination of Stravinsky and Sondheim! Although, I would still welcome an album of his own. I eagerly look for the US release of the extra cut version. A remarkable tribute for and by the man who was the 5th Beatle!
Free Music Review: A worthy final project Hit: 5 Stars
Mister George Martin delivered an outstanding cd with this project. It not only ends the myth that one shouldn't cover Beatles-songs, it also proves the genius of mister Martin when it comes to choosing the right people.
Who would have dared suggesting actor Robin Williams for 'Come Together' or Jim Carrey for 'I Am The Walrus'?
Who would have thought of Billy Connolly for 'The Benifit Of Mister Kite'?
He did, and they did a great job.
And the final: the title track 'In My Life' is a stunning version with Sean Connery. It is the absolute climax of the disc, a classic in its own right.
A must have!
Free Music Review: THE ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE JEFF BECK TRACK! Hit: 5 Stars
Obviously, there is an absolute chasm of dichotomy in all the reviews here. I am not going to add any comments to the swirl, except to say that Jeff Beck's version of "A Day In The Life" makes this CD an absolute must-own.
Since the release of this recording, Beck has made that song a staple of his on-stage performances. While the track exists on several JB live recordings, they are unmatched by this stunning studio, orchestral-accompanied, Martin-arranged/conducted version.
I can state whole-heartedly that if you do not own this disc, your Jeff Beck collection is incomplete!
Free Music Review: Pleasant surprise Hit: 5 Stars
I heard this cd first while visiting some friends in Australia.
It played in the background while we talked story. Perfect music for that kind of evening.
I recognised it as Beatles tunes but every once in a while a particular song caught my attention, the violin rendition of Because, Billy Connelly and Jim Carey(the perfect energy in the voices) and Sean Connery's majestic reading of In My Life.
Overall I'm pleased with the cd. Even the songs that aren't favorites aren't bad.
