Free Music Notes for In My LifeFree Music Review: Awesome album, definitely worth it if only for Jim Carrey and Jeff Beck Hit: 4 Stars
I'm listening to this CD, yet once again, and I can't stop at being surprised at how much fun it is. I don't know why there are so many people angry about it, stating that "John would hate it". Who knows what John would have thought about it? All that matters is - some of the guys singing on this album seem to be having the time of their lives, and it shows. I was absolutely blown away by Jim Carrey's "I am the Walrus". I'll be honest here - I like his "Walrus" better than the original one. To me, it's *that* good - I can't think of anyone who'd ever sing it better than him. Goldie Hawn, Jeff Beck and Sean Connery are amazing, too. Even the weakest cuts (Robin Williams, for example) are sort of enjoyable. Celine Dion - I wish I could just scratch her song off the CD; she's beyond awful. That knocks off a star of an otherwise perfect album.
Free Music Review: Fresh and eclectic interpretations of musical genius. Hit: 4 Stars
No muzak here. The well-known artists on this CD offer great variety, all finished off with that unmistakable George Martin touch. None are meant to match or replace the original -- and none ever could -- but each expands in a very interesting way upon the brilliance of these Beatles masterpieces. Some are fun and goofy, others are poignant symphonic renderings; all are worth more than one listening. There's enough here to satisfy any Beatles fan -- really, almost any music fan. A proud last hurrah for Martin.
Free Music Review: cute stuff Hit: 4 Stars
All right, I don't actually own this album. My grandparents do. Avid Beatle fan that I am, though, I find myself continually swiping this CD from their collection for a listen. I love the fact that Goldie Hawn sings "A Hard Days Night" and that Jim Carrey and Robin Williams exercise their voices as well. This is a great CD for anyone into the Beatles, or into celebrities at all, for that matter! An unusual twist on many old favorites...George Martin did a great job! :)
Free Music Review: A very good collection of Beatles Covers Hit: 4 Stars
George Martin did a wonderful job selecting unusual artists to do their own renditions of Beatles songs. The genre-bending and instantly recognizable vocal talent make this a very enjoyable album. Jim Carrey's take on "I Am the Walrus", in particular is not to be missed. My only gripe is that there are two or three duds hidden amongst the generally excellent score.
Free Music Review: Sir George Martin's In My Life Hit: 4 Stars
I bought this CD based on hearing cuts from it on a special Beatles radio show (KQMT) honoring Sir George Martin. They played Jim Carrey's cut, and a cut from Phil Collins, which I thought was excellent--all covers of Beatles tunes. So if you like hearing Beatles covers, some rather unusual, that George Martin produced, then this is the CD for you.
