Free Music Notes for Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael

Free Music Review: Career Retrospective and Career Best!
Hit: 5 Stars

George Michael is one of Pop's most versatile Artists and a true Survivor. It's no suprise then that "Ladies & Gentleman: The Best of George Michael" is an Annual Best Seller at Amazon the world over! The opening track on the "for the heart" CD1, "Jesus to a Child", is nothing short of stunning: "Sadness in my eyes; no one guessed, well no one tried; you smiled at me; like Jesus to a Child; loveless and cold; with your last breath you saved my soul; you smiled at me; like Jesus to a Child." George does just a competent take of "I Can't Make You Love Me"; Bonnie Raitt's version is definitive. But he more than makes up for it with his own "Praying for Time", a song with a timeless message. CD2 "for the feet" contains all the mid and uptempo Dance/Pop Hits. Highlights include "Freedom 90" and "Faith". George's fans should also check out the new release from Pop/Rock Artist Amber - "My Kind of World". Amber's CD is an eclectic Collection of Pop, Rock, Jazz, and Dance Tracks. Though not a Greatest Hits Collection like George's CD, "My Kind of World" may as well be. It contains enough potential Singles to keep it in the Charts for the next 2 years! Billboard in it's glowing review of the CD said that "Amber deserves a spot in the Mainstream!". Right beside George! My advice? Get BOTH The Best of George Michael and Amber - My Kind of World.

Free Music Review: This American loves ya, George!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a fan of George Michael's since "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go". Since then, I have grown up, and so has George's music. He has never given his fans anything less than perfect pop music. He is one of the few artists whose new albums (alas, with George, they are too few and far between) I will buy without hearing a single song.

For the uninitiated, "Ladies & Gentleman" provides a great introduction to Michael's music. I disagree with those who call Disc 1 tiresome--I love "Father Figure", "Careless Whisper", "A Different Corner" and (especially) "Cowboys and Angels". Disc 2 is lots of fun--I dare you not to dance when it's on! One day a co-worker and I cranked up this disc when no one else was in the office...I've never had such fun at work. (I paid the extra cash for the import version, which is worth every penny for the wonderful "As" duet with Mary J. Blige. It's a pity this was taken off the U.S. version.)

The album provides a good overview of "Faith", "Listen Without Prejudice" (a highly underrated work), and "Older". Hopefully listeners of "Ladies & Gentleman" will be inspired to pick up some (or all) of these albums.

Everyone I know that has or has listened to this album loves it. George, you still have a lot of true fans over here in America. Please come back and see us sometime!

Free Music Review: The finest compilation ever made!
Hit: 5 Stars

Pete Waterman once said that the biggest mistakes "his" starlets and pop stars make is "aspiring to be George Michael over night when in fact there could only be one George Michael". The all-knowing Pete Waterman in this statement was mostly referring to the versatile talent that God has given to George Michael, a talent that begins with his incredible penmanship of his lyrics, deep enough to inspire thought and yet set accordingly within the parameters of good taste, and his distinctive voice that goes down like fine Parisian truffles, making us yearn for more.

I am hardly an obsessed fan of George Michael but I must say I have always appreciated his music. This CD has been playing in my car for almost five years now and I have no intensions of replacing it. Well, maybe with a new one since this one is getting to be pretty beat up.

I'll tell you what keeps me going back to listening to this wonderful mix of slow (my favourites) and dance numbers. It's the careful crafmanship of how this music was created. Nothing here happens by chance. The entire arrangment of all instrumental pieces falls right into place with the lyrics. Boy, how I adore the track "Cowboys and Angels", I could listen to it over and over again that I'm getting a little embarassed.

I wish George Michael could release his music more often but I suppose he isn't inspired much these days.

Free Music Review: Great bang for the buck - disc 1 is amazing!
Hit: 5 Stars

If you are straight or gay listen up. EVERYONE LOVES THIS CD. I've had this album borrowed by tons of friends. I personally listen to disc 1 to unwind after a stressful day but I have yet to find a woman that doesn't love listening to this CD. Most guys would rather discuss whether George is gay or straight but the reality is that the music is great. No one should deny that.

I love this collection and personally listen to disc 1 entitled "for the heart" much more than disc 2 which is entitled "for the feet." As the titles imply disc 1 is a compilation of Mr. Michael's best slow songs and disc 2 is a compilation of the more dance-oriented, upbeat songs.

If there was any complaint I had about the album it was in disc 1 with the order of the songs and the tempo. While the songs are more love oriented they go up and down in tempo, which I didn't care for so I burned ...onto my computer and reorganized it and then burnt it onto a blank CD. LOL. Songs on disc 1 include: "Jesus to a Child", "Father Figure", the slow jazz tune "Kissing a Fool", and a beautiful cover of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me". My personal song on the album is "you have been loved."

I won't discuss disc 2 much but on a bang for the buck basis this album ranks WAY up there in my opinion. BUY IT NOW! What are you waiting for? Heck, listen to it on the links above. You can't lose!

Free Music Review: Truly Great
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first listened to this album, I had only took my sister's cds and then listened to it. When I listened to both cds, I was truly amazed at the songs GM sang. However, I am not a GM fan.

George Michael, in my opinion, has a really beautiful voice and sings some of the most excellent songs in the world. I come from that so called "generation" of grunge and stuff, but hey, it's a free country.

The first cd, For the Heart, I think has a lot of soulful ballads. One of my favorites is Praying for Time which I think is very true, the world can be so selfish. I also liked Heal the Pain which I found very smooth as well as Father Figure which I think is also very meaningful. Careless Whisper is still one of my most favorites with the music and the lyrics well fitted.

The second cd is the one that I liked most. I liked Faith, it got me tapping automatically and it's very addictive. Also, I liked Freedom 90 which is another great song which I think has great lyrics. The media can be so mean, I guess. Too Funky is excellent for the catwalk and I Knew You Were Waiting for Me has great lyrics and music.

In the end, I think this is an excellent album with GM's greatest hits and songs. However, I didn't like the Asian version which didn't have Monkey. The US version is my favorite. Buy this album whether you are a fan of GM or a collector of songs.
