This is a very high quality collection of songs by one of our finest Pop craftsmen.
His solo career almost, ALMOST redeems him for Wham and those short shorts in the Wake Me Up Before You Go Go video. No matter what you think of NSync and New Kids On The Block, at least they looked COOL doing it.
A lot of the songs on The Best can't be found on album releases, including Too Funky and Killer etc etc.
One beef I have is George putting the alternate version of I Want Your Sex on the album. Nobody wants that one, we want the radio version. Now I have to buy Faith just to get that one, which is nothing but double-dipping.
The Best of George Michael is a very entertaining career encompassing set. And the tracks are smartly separated into a slow-song album (for the heart) and a fast-song album (for the feet). Some of the slow songs like One More Try and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me give me chills. And some of the fast ones like Faith are legendary.
If you're just getting into G. Michael, this collection is all you need (unless you find it necessary to get the hit version of I Want Your Sex).

About four years ago, while trying to decide what music to take with us for a long ride down Highway 1, my friend suggested we take my old "Faith" album by George Michael. "Why do you want to take that?" I asked. "It's got to be over ten years old." Giving me a quizical look, my friend replied "Because it's good." He was absolutely right. Today, I am still shocked by how much I like George Michael's music. While my music tastes are eclectic and change often, his music is the only constant in my life. His music goes with me whether I am in my room, the car, or even on vacation. And while some of his albums are over a decade old, they are -- and always will be -- timeless. And when one combines the fact thatGeorge Michael writes, sings and produces all of his songs -- one has to realize how rare and special that is. So many artsts today cannot play an instrument, write, (and in many cases) -- sing. Not true for Geroge Michael however. He is the genuine product. So for all of you who have never listened to his music or only have one of his albums, my advice to you is -- get this CDFree Music Review: Can't explain what it is, but I really dig his music

I am not gay, though I wish I had the fashion sense. I am not into pop music, though not all of this is really Pop. I am not into his Wham stuff all that much, but ever since he broke out on his own I have just loved his sound. It is some of my favorite music, and the only music I like that sounds anything like it.
And though I take a lot of flack for it I still get all his stuff and I make no bones about it. People may not appreciate his talent for this art form as much as I do but at least they let me enjoy the music just the same.
To that end this is a great compilation of some of his best work. I keep only a few CDs in the car with me but this one, even though it is a double disc set, is one of them. It is that good, even people who don't think they like him still seem to enjoy this disc set. I am sure if you have ever liked him you will enjoy this compilation. The newer stuff on here is OK, but it is really more about the older stuff on this set. For newer stuff there are a couple of other discs out there, but none are as good as this.

'Ladies and Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael' is an awesome 2 CD collection of hits and new songs. The 1st CD - FOR THE HEART - is dedicated to his late mother Lesley. George Michael reveals his soul with honest lyrics of love, relationships, hope and despair. Among the tracks are a new song, 'A Moment With You' and the lush 'Desafinado' with Astrud Gilberto, taken from the aids awareness charity CD 'RED HOT AND RIO.' The 2nd CD - FOR THE FEET - is a collection of up tempo and dance tracks. (Gotta Get Up to Get Down!) Unfortunately, only the international version features the fantastic cover of the Stevie Wonder song 'As' with Mary J. Blige. (I purchased the import.) Each CD has it's own lyric and photo book filled with 26 wonderful photographs spanning George Michael's career. Like his influences, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Queen, Michael truly has the gift of writing lyrics and delivering vocals that evoke incredible emotion from the listener. This compilation is a must-have for George Michael fans and lovers of music alike.
