Free Music Notes for Patience

Free Music Review: I've had patience for this album, and it paid off.
Hit: 5 Stars

Yeah, that was a corny opening line, but all of my opening lines are, right? I'm just gonna start this off, because I've already explained how I feel about George's return.

"Patience" is a good, slow song, but nothing as good as the next song. I like how George's voice harmonizes like it was programmed with the piano. Very good song. I love the piano section itself, it's just so moving. Very nice.

"Amazing" reminded me to dust off my Wham! records. It's the best song on the album, and that's saying something since almost all of the songs are near perfect. The disco beat brought me back to 1997 for some reason. House is something no one appreciates anymore, and George nailed it perfectly. Go, George! You're just getting me more impatient for the next album.

"John and Elvis are dead" is another good song that I'll listen to a lot, as well. It's so slow-tempo and relaxing, that one time it brought me to sleep. That's a good thing, because I haven't got much sleep lately. George's voice, again, is purely a treat. Listen to this one first.

"Cars and Trains" is a really good song. It's probably the 3rd best song on the album. I like the lyrics "I don't say Hi to these guys no more" for some reason. It's just pretty cool. It's like, "I'm just too cool to say hi to some geeks". Totally stuck-up.

"Round here"is another mid-tempo song, almost RnB. It's more relaxing than John and Elvis are dead, but the synths are pretty cheesy. It reminds me of some 90's dramas, like 7th Heaven. Pretty sweet, if you want awesome RnB stuff.

"My mother had a brother" is very slow, but it's a very good slow-mood song to dance with a loved one to. But what do I know about that kinda stuff? I just like the piano/vocal combination on these songs.

"Flawless" is the 2nd best song in my opinion. Vocoders are my best friends, to tell you the truth. I get all happy whenever I hear them. The disco tempo is again a treat to listen to. I just adore those vocoders so much. They don't get used as often as they should!

"American Angel" is another slow song, this time with slow beats and an RnB acoustic guitar. Plus some cool delay/echo effects. Pretty neat, but nothing compared to the dance tracks. The 'pest' line is pretty catchy.

"Precious Box" is precious. I like the tempo-very good to relax, or chill to. It's all...erm, groovy, if you will, and I'd like to see a music video to it. Too bad there aren't any vocoders in it.

"Please send me someone (Anselmo's Song)" is a pretty good salsa-esque song. I know, I'm tedious at categorizing these songs. I just like the laid back, almost jamaican beat on this one. Very good.

"Freeek! '04" is just...too sexy for me. It probably would've been better if there were more VOCODERS in it. The hard-drive synthesized beat and the background vocals saying "Sexual" was just...too much for this guy. It was still good, but it probably would've been an 'old skool-esque hit' instrumentally.

"Through" is the ending song for this album. I liked this one. Very slow, very...moving. Very heartbreaking. I love how the piano and George just blend in together! It's just...too much for me. Very classic.

Overall, it's just about the perfect combination of slow and uptempo. It's good to listen to, and it's great to play at parties. Just...use the slow songs for slow dances. I'd highly reccomend this to any Wham! fans. You should get it for yourself and experience the magic of "Patience".

Patience Poster

International version of his 2004 album features two tracks that were left off the US pressing, 'Shoot the Dog' and 'Patience Pt.2'. 14 tracks in all including the lead off single, 'Amazing' and the follow-up 'Flawless'. The album also includes the tribute, 'John & Elvis', which was composed on John Lennon's piano. Epic. 2004.
It must be hard being a George Michael fan. Patience is only his fourth studio effort in the 18 years since Wham! split, so its release must be some cause for celebration. There always seems to have been something preventing him from releasing a new album--from arrests for lewd behavior, protracted battles with record companies, or prolonged periods of grieving for departed family and friends. Thankfully, Patience is pretty good.

Flitting between fraught ballads and up-tempo adult pop (the misguided sample-laden single "Freeek!" being the unnecessary exception), George here returns to the structure and mood of 1990s Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1. Patience is at its most delicate and moving with its title track, the intense, tabloid-attacking "Through" and the painful family memories of "My Mother Had a Brother." To balance this, hearts will be raised by "Amazing," with its echoes of the Bee Gees, "Round Here," in which George remembers his early days scampering around Bushey with Andrew Ridgley, and "Cars and Trains," which celebrates the kind of lifestyle that so riled the LAPD back in 1998. That's the thing about George Michael these days. Love him or loathe him, he is unapologetically himself. And fans should be very grateful for that. --Dominic Wills
