Free Music Notes for Songs From the Last CenturyFree Music Review: something what had to be happen in the end of the century Hit: 5 Stars
A month ago I heard B.ferry's"AS TIME GOES BY"than I thought it was a great connection between jazz&pop but as time goes by I see that this "project"was a hard work for Bryan and his friends and I think that it would be better for him to make a CD which will be sth. like "AVALON" or "BOYS AND GIRLS" although "AS TIME..." was a winner of the month. Two weeks ago I heard that G. Michael made sth. like Bryan. In first time I was sceptic because I learnd how it goes when somebody who sings popmusic try to sing jazz standards. You know what I mean ,it's very hard to sing jazz but...George is a very good singer and he used to do some songs that remind us of jazz and that was nice. That was a reason why I listen to his "SONGS FROM..."and I think that is sth.completly different from B's"AS TIME GOES BY".The songs as Roxanne, miss Sarajevo in fact aren't jajazz standards and george even didn't try to make them that.He just sings it in his very special way and in the same time it sounds good.Enjoy the songs from the last century!
Free Music Review: Editorial Review is way off the mark. Hit: 5 Stars
If you are like me and you are sick and tired of people with little or NO talent bringing out music that could have been written or sung by just about anyone, and you, like me appreciate someone that can actually SING, then this album is for you.
George Michael has undoubtadly THE best voice around, some of the songs on here may not be familiar to you as some of them werent to me but when someone so gifted sings this stuff you can appreciate the songs for what they are, timeless classics.
Dont pay attention to the rather small minded people who have gone out of their way to post a negative review,no doubt fuelled by a dislike to George Michaels sexuality,if someone is a good singer they are a good singer regardless of what they do in bed and with whom, and George isnt just a good singer he is a GREAT singer.
My fav is "Secret Love" its big and brassy and WOW ...THAT VOICE,its safe to say his tongue was planted firmly in his cheek when he decided to cover this track but it works...eat your heart out Robbie Williams
Give it a try. Hope this helps.
Free Music Review: The stuff dreams are made 5 Stars
well, what can i say about this latest offering from George Michael. All the usual adjectives come into mind- beautiful, soul searching etc etc.this foray into the world of jazz infused with classics is a great idea and only a singer of George Michael's calibre could pull it off in his ever expectant polished style. the songs have a hypnotic effect, albeit you have to listen to the songs a few times before you fully appreciate what Michael has done here. his soulful melodies are perfectly in tune with the goreous sounding orchestra. this is a must have for any George Michael fan, and although some listeners will wonder why on earth George Michael has diverted into this musical direction, avid fans will tell you that this "change" of musical style has been on the cards for some time. So, listen without prejudice and let this talented singer with a voice as smooth as silk can you on this magical journey of what used to be in the good old days when songs were written ans sung for a purpose other than money. Listen, Relax and Enjoy.
Free Music Review: For the truly music LOVERS! Hit: 5 Stars
To describe this album as 'divined' will be an understatement. Geogre has made yet another wonderful acheivement in music, by making it! As you see by the other reviews on this site, the ones who should appricate this, do ( i.e truly music LOVERS, any LOVERS, and (true) fans :) ). Whoever is lucky enough to own it, knows that the valubale of this beauty just grows bigger and bigger with every darn listening... from the suprisingly amazing "Brother.." to that ending inst. track, you sence George's love & talent in each note... and whoever is well-informed enough, able to read what he says on his life, love and anything between, *between* the lines ;o). [although he didn't write it, of course!] YEA, at least for me, he has succeeded to acheive his goal(which is NOT to declare something on the music of the 20th century by his choices, BUT--) to interpert his favorites from that century, in the best way he could. Thanks Yoggie, for that gift! :))
Free Music Review: Better than ever Hit: 5 Stars
I've always found George's voice to be hypnotic and emotionally moving, and this CD has those qualities above and beyond any of his previous work, with the exception of "Jesus to a Child." I was skeptical about purchasing this one, since I was unfamiliar with most of the songs, but I took the risk and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've never cared for "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," but George manages to convey a tenderness and depth of emotion that is soul-shattering. "Wild is the Wind" is my absolute favorite, possibly of all of his songs. It's very sensual and intimate, like a lover whispering in one's ear. This CD is an incredible emotional experience, and George's vocals are much more prevalent and impressive than in his previous work. A must-have for any fan! I hope George continues to pursue his own musical inclinations!
