Free Music Notes for Songs From the Last CenturyFree Music Review: Songs from the Last Century Hit: 5 Stars
Songs from the Last Century~ George Michael is an amazing recording where George Michael sing amazing covers of songs like Brother can you spare a dime, Roxanne and many other songs that he sings with conviction and his vocals are breathtakingly good. I have no idea why this album was totally ignored in the US since George Michael sounds astounding and his versions are quite creative and have a different flair of its own and this is what covers are supposed to be since otherwise you might as well just listen to the original recording and there are way to many that sound just like carbon copies and not covers like this amazing collection of covers does. Two thumps up and I would definetly recommend this tremendous album.
Free Music Review: Hard to accept that this masterpiece has never been recognized. Hit: 5 Stars
Can one album change the entire genre of music you're listening? This album did for me! I used to be an average pop-rock listener, until I came across with it. Since then gradually I've become a jazz fan.
The songs are excellently performed by GM while I wouldn't ignore the great influence and contribution of the producer Phil Ramone.
The album is one of the rare albums in my whole life that I like from Track 1 till the end and have kept in my cd-changer for several years, and each year I found another track to really enjoy listening to.
I believe GM's voice suits more in jazz music than any other genre, and hope he releases a second volume of this album.
Free Music Review: george michael proves that he's every bit of a talent Hit: 5 Stars
this is a man, a true artist and a musician, who writes and produces he's own music. he's responsible for one of the best songs ever written and produced and doesn't receive the recognition that he deserves. This record is a proof of his incredible talent and love for his art. knowing that commercially this record might not go anywhere, he still re-recorded and produced his favorite songs. And all of them are very well produced, by adding his own touch of talent to each track. i totally enjoy listening to this record. it becomes pleasant each time i hear it. and i admire this man every time i listen to it. this is a killer record. try it. u ought to.
Free Music Review: FANTASTIC! Hit: 5 Stars
George Michael is a great talent, and I have been a fan of his since his Wham! days. On this particular CD, his voice is nothing short of mesmerizing. My two favorite tracks are "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," re-done by many following Roberta Flack's until now unmatched version (utter perfection by George) and "Miss Sarajevo," on which George's smooth as silk flawless voice is accompanied by a fabulous guitar. When I listen to this CD, his voice is so clear, so fabulous, so intimate and heartfelt, you feel like he is in the room with you. In my humble opinion, this is a must have for any collection of music.
Free Music Review: George's Gem Hit: 5 Stars
Why this gem of cover tunes didn't get more attention I'll never know. Ten breathtaking renditions of covers from Rodgers & Hart ("Where or When") to the Police ("Roxanne") and U2 (the underappreciated "Miss Sarajevo"), beautifully produced by Phil Ramone. Michael has never sounded better -- his voice, phrasing, and interpretations of these classics are impeccable. Unlike most pop singers, Michael definitely has a future as an aging crooner. Sidenote: Booklet has eerie black and white photo of Michael gazing pensively with the WTC towers lurking in the background.
