Free Music Review: A perfect pop album

I am still not quite sure yet whether the fact that I am such a big fan of Ms Halliwell biased or influenced my judging of this album. Either was, I was absolutely impressed with Schizophonic, which I feel showcases both the previously supressed desire of this woman to sing her heart out (something that was not always possible with four other girls) and her great talent for innovative, creative, and original songwriting (which we did see with the Spice Girls). There is no one obvious filler track on the album, although one or two songs I felt could have done with possiblty a little more work. The album begins with "Look At Me", an out there, in your face pop song which serves well as a debut single, and which has a brilliant chorus. "Lift Me Up" makes the most of Geri's relatively low-pitched vocal range, and is uplifting and pleasant. "Walkaway" is obviously about her departure from the Spice Girls, with lyrics such as "Who knows just where I'm going, does tomorrow belong to me?" conveying Geri's expected insecurity about life without the girls, and her desire to remain famous and successful. "Mi Chico Latino" is a memorable, classic latin hit with a beautiful verse, bridge, and chorus, which brings out the Spanish in all of us, and shows off Geri's beutiful pronunciation of Spanish, which many, including myself, find extremely sexy. "Goodnight Kiss" is a bit slow and sleepy, but it serves its purpose as a Munro-type track, and reminds one of the Spice Girl song "The Lady is a Vamp" from the Spiceworld album. "Bag It Up" is a sure fire hit, and is not dissimilar to "Who Do U Think U R?" from the Spice album. I found the song "Sometime" rather facinating, with the beginning seconds being set in a church, with Geri singing a hymn which transforms into a pop song. I reminded me of "Sister Act". However, the one problem I had with this song was the uncertainty with which Ms Halliwell sang "Sometime" in the chorus, but later sang "Sometimes, sometimes". So which is it? The singular or plural form? But, the deliberately contrasting bridge, and verse/chorus was nice. "Let Me Love You" was a token Indian influenced track, which was well done all things considered. "Someone's Watching Over Me" is an extremely moving track, with direct reference to Geri's love for her father, and her pain surrounding his death (which occured before she achieved the fame he knew she wanted so much). The last 30 seconds of the song are the most appealing, with Geri's charming non-Celine Dion voice piping out "I hope that you can see me now, I tried my best to make you proud, I'll always be your daddy's girl". "Your In A Bubble" is a rap song which never really develops into what you want it to, but which certainly has daring lyrics, and is very Halliwell. The influence of Madonna on Geri is obvious,with much of the album sounding reminisent of the classics "La Isla Bonita" and "Like A Prayer". My personal favourites are "Look At Me", "Lift Me Up", Walkaway", "Mi Chico Latino", and "Someone's Watching Over Me". I would recommend to EMI that (despite my lack of authority in the music industry) that these songs are by far the best and should all be released, although it seems inevitable that "Bag It Up" will be released for its catchy rhythm and hit value. Geri, if you do read this, please do email me and tell me your opinion on my comments. I've tried to be objective but it is difficult when I admire you so much as an inspirational person, and someone who really does have a lot of intelligence. Overall, definitely an album worth every penny of its purchasing price.
