Free Music Review: "Schizophonic" will lift you up
Hit: 5 Stars

So here we have Geri Halliwell's debut solo album after her hugely controversial departure from the Spice Girls in 1998. You can definitely tell that Geri poured her heart & soul into this album. There are plenty of tracks you can get your groove on to but there are also some deeply personal tracks on the album which is a perfect combination if you ask me. "Schizophonic" is an appropriate title. If you haven't heard this amazing album yet, I'll break it down track by track for you.

01. Look At Me = 5/5 Stars
Great first single. Very different from what people expected I think. This song is really cheeky & lots of fun while stating an important message. Add a great video & you've got the perfect single. This song went #2 in the UK.

02. Lift Me Up = 5/5 Stars
I love this song so much. Such great vocals from Geri & the lyrics are sweet & uplifting. This song really pulls you in which is why it went #1.

03. Walkaway = 5/5 Stars
My favorite song on the album. This song is really personal & tells the story of a girl who learns to just walk away from the people who have hurt her throughout her life & put her down. There's nothing left to say or do but walk away. Geri's songwriting is at its best here & this song is a stone winner.

04. Mi Chico Latino = 5/5 Stars
Very catchy 2nd single from the album. I loved it the first time I heard it. You won't even notice when you're singing along. It's such a fun song with a great video. Perfect 2nd single.

05. Goodnight Kiss = 4/5
I like this song. I have to admit it took a few listens for it to grow on me. But after listening to it for over 10 years now, I love it. It's not one of the strongest tracks on the album but it is cute & cheeky. Give it a chance.

06. Bag It Up = 5/5
4th & last single from the album. Perfect choice. Very campy & cheeky. Very Geri, I should say. The lyrics are great, her vocals are great & this song is a great catchy dance track.

07. Sometime = 5/5
I love this song. Definitely one of my favorites. I love the softness the song starts out with & goes back to but on the bridges, it gets dark & goes to another level. Love the message in the song & the lyrics are great.

08. Let Me Love You = 3/5
This is my least favorite track on the album. I think it's kinda cute but it's just not my style. There were plenty of b-sides she could've used to replace this that were better. Not horrible but I think it's the weakest track on the album.

09. Someone's Watching Over Me = 5/5
My 2nd favorite track on the album. It may actually be tied with "Walk Away". Obviously this is the most personal track on the album considering it is about Geri's father passing away. I think the lyrics are really poetic & show a different side to Geri that we had never heard or seen before. This one will give you a good cry but you will fall in love with it. Lyrical perfection.

10. You're In A Bubble = 4/5
I heard alot of rumors that this song may have been written about Victoria, Geri's fellow Spice Girl. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't but I think it's a pretty good song. Not the best on the album or the best way to end it but pure Geri.

Overall, I rate "Schizophonic" = 4.5/5 Stars

This is one of the strongest albums that a solo Spice has released in my opinion. There's alot of heart & emotion in this record & it really pulls you in. This album was pretty successful & it deserved all of that success & more. This album definitely goes down as a classic. If you are a Spice fan, I'm sure you'll love. If not, at least give it a chance. Don't forget to check out my other Spice reviews.

Free Music Review: Miss "Girl Power" has done it again!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Miss Halliwell has delivered us a wicked album. Smart, funky, positive, are a few words to describe this album. She has a great voice and this album DOES make you want to dance in your undies. "Look At Me" is a song about how looks aren't that important and it doesn't matter whether you're gay, straight or whatever, you're still human. This song is very catchy and the words are amazing, it also tells you not to be judgemental. "Lift Me Up" is just a good song all-around. It really makes you feel good and happy inside. The tune brings us back to a late 70's; early 80's kind of a deal. "Walkaway" is of course about her departure of the Spice Girls. It is slow in the beginning, but the music will grow during the second verse. And basically, "Walkaway" just let's you know that she was sad about leaving the SG. This has to be one of my favorites. "Mi Chico Latino" shows us the Spanish side of Geri, 'cause she is part Spanish. This song makes you want to move and the song gets stuck in your head for days. The latin music makes you want to do the salsa and is just a very fun song. "Goodnight Kiss" sorta takes us back to the 60's in a way. To me, it resembles "Too Much", but not a lot. I guess it's suppose to be about a her and this guy, and I guess he wants something (you know what) but I guess what she's trying to him, is to wait and be patient and he'll get it, but for now, he's just getting a goodnight kiss. "Bag it Up" is a song about the 2 sexist. How the male and female are just too damn opposite! "Men are from Venus, and Woman are from Mars. It has a disco tune to it. And the lyrics are very funky and has you dancing for hours. "Sometimes" is the essence of the album. It has very pretty words, and the melody is very up-lifting. It pretty much tells you the time she spent away from the girls. "Let Me Love You" is a fun song. About this guy she fancys and here comes this perfect little blonde girl screwin' things up. And it's sort of a soap opera, well to me it is. It has a nice "street" tune. "Someone's Watching Over Me" has a soulful, yet mellow tune to it. The words, i guess describes her past, and how much she's grown, whether it's how much she's grown since a child or since she left the group? "You're in a Bubble" is a song where she just loosened up and had fun. It has many marvelous raps about those rich selfish people and is telling them to laugh once in a while. It's a cool, upbeat song. So get the album, it's so good!!! And if you ask me, Geri WAS "Girl Power" herself. Geri went all out and made this album the best and different it can be, but it's still pop music, just not bubblegum music the SG use to make...

Free Music Review: A Fresh New Start For Geri
Hit: 5 Stars

Of all the Spice Girls members, Geri (aka: Ginger Spice) has always been my favourite, whether it be her looks, talent or just personality. When she left the group, I knew she had something up her sleeve. Well, sure enough, out come this wonderful debut album, "Schizophonic." Here is the track-by-track review:-

1) Look At Me: (1st single) With a funky beat and even funkier lyrics, this tune may seem a little awkward at first for some listeners, but after the second or third time, you'll laugh and sing right along with this moderately-fast tempo song.

2) Lift Me Up: (3rd single) My most favourite song from this album... in fact, probably of all time. When the first note is played, you will be automatically transported to a high mountain, watching a beautiful sunrise. The happy feel to this song is guaranteed to, like the title suggests, lift you up!

3) Walkaway: In her autobiography, Geri told that she wrote the first verse while she was hiding from the press during her post-Spice days. The mood and lyrics of this ballad tells of her struggling to walk proudly into her new life.

4) Mi Chico Latino: (2nd single) The latin feel of this club favourite is sure to light up any party or night out! Like a Ricky Martin fast song... only better!

5) Goodnight Kiss: An unusual song with a jazzy beat that speaks take it or leave it. Either you like this song, or you don't.

6) Bag It Up: (4th single) The perfect example of battle of the sexes. This sort-of continuation of "Who Do You Think You Are" has deadpan lyrics that screams "GIRL POWER"!

7) Sometime: Once again, either you like it, or you don't. The church organ and choral arrangements in the beginning of the song might turn some people off. However, it is a pretty good moderately paced ballad.

8) Let Me Love You: A strange little number with a sitar and East-Indian introduction. Sort of like the last track, but with a different beginning. Also, the tempo of this song is a little faster than "Sometime".

9) Someone's Watching Over Me: A feel good song about how a girl wants someone to watch over her. Not the best song, but not bad either.

10) You're In A Bubble: ...If you like the fast songs a la Spice Girls, you'll like this one. Note: The lyrics for this song in the album insert does not include the chorus for some reason, so I still don't quite understand one of the lines!

Altogether, this is a very exciting release from Geri Halliwell, and all music fans should at least find one favourite track in this album. The lyrics are all very insightful on Geri's life. A must-buy for music lovers. Good job, Geri!

Free Music Review: Wonderful......Listen without prejudice
Hit: 5 Stars

Geri Halliwell was the most derided of all the Spice Girls, constantly poked fun at for her weight, her thin voice, her garish make up and her frankly insane wardrobe. When she quit the phenomenally successful group to go solo, many predicted she would fall embarrassingly flat on her face. It is nice then that those naysayers can be proven wrong with 'SCHIZOPHONIC', her wonderful debut album. With 'SCHIZOPHONIC' Halliwell doesn't stray too far from the Spice Girls field, she knows how to write a decent pop song, and this album is chock full of those. Her voice ISN'T the best in the world, but her sheer enthusiasm and personality shines through on every track.

1.LOOK AT ME: A magnificently over the top pop number, heavily produced, but with an incredibly bouncy, effervescent air highlighting Geri's voice to perfection.

2.LIFT ME UP:A dreamy, airy, floaty type of song, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Opening with a chirping birds, and littered with harps and jingles, it is soothing, refreshing and Halliwell's own personal favourite. (No. 1 !!)

3. WALKAWAY: Geri is faced with a 60-piece orchestra and confronts them with an achingly heartfelt ballad, her voice filled with emotion about the pain of going it alone.

4.MI CHICO LATINO: The No.1 single, a summery, effortlessly catchy Latin flavoured melody with Geri doing her trademark Spanish rap (Que Sueno !)

5.GOODNIGHT KISS: A sultry soulful Sadé-esque number, with a teasing lyric, Geri's voice is perfectly suited to this type of song.

6.BAG IT UP: Geri does disco in a loud, crazy anthem with frankly bizarre lyrics (I like chocolate and controversy). A paean to her Girl Power days... (No.1)

7.SOMETIMES: A dreamy mellow pop song with an angelic, reverent feel interwoven with screaming rants works wonderfully and is one of the highlights of the album.

8.LET ME LOVE YOU: It's out with the sitars for an Indian influenced track, with a matchmaking theme. Begins superbly, but develops along the line of a far more conventional pop song than it should have been. Geri does get to do a very good vocal improv towards the end though.

9.SOMEONE'S WATCHING OVER ME: A delicate, moving little ballad about the loss of a father. Very sad, and sweetly sung.

10: YOU'RE IN A BUBBLE: Not the best song, but by far the best lyrics on the album with Geri pouring out the bile and venting her frustration at her former Spice girl colleagues ('Wipe that Prada smile from that RADA face!').

'It's important to learn to laugh at ourselves, don't take life TOO seriously'

Free Music Review: The Death of Ginger...
Hit: 5 Stars

Of course could Geri Halliwell ever really kill 'Ginger'? Naw but for this CD she *reallly* tried (even having her funeral in the 'Look at me' video) yet later gave up and by 2004 has fully reverted back to her Spice sounding days. But for now let's go back to 1999.
Schizophonic overall has a very 'grown up yet not' pop vibe to it which is truly to this CD and this CD only. Perhaps its all in the name Schizo: split Phonic: listening/music.

Schizophonic kicks off with 'Look at me' her very first single so aptly titled. Geri follows this with some 'deeper then the Spice Girls could ever go' tracks: 'Lift me up' a sweet ballad and 'Walkaway' which is about her leaving the group. Yet Geri doesn't want you to forget what makes her great: her sassy kitch pop. Thus 'Mi Chico Latino' a latin flavored quick paced track and 'Bag it up' a sassy jazz inspired pop anthem appear.

From here Geri decides to try something inspired and new again. 'Sometime' is a angel vs devil type of track thats honestly unique. The verses are sweet and church sounding while the bridge is a devil trying to get out sound, while the chorus is a mix. Honestly one of the better pop tracks of ALL TIME! Geri follows this up with 'Let me love you' a hindi inspired innocent and sweet love song. Again its innovational and really a pop masterpiece!

For the final tracks Geri almost reviews what we all just heard: good ol pop, innovational pop, and of course the inspiring pop. 'Someone's watching over me' is a sweet ballad dedicated to her deceased father and the final track 'You're in a bubble' is again in your face innovational kitsch pop...it's also rumored to be inspired by an ex bandmate though that's never been proven.

Overall 'Schizophonic' was a brilliant start out in to the solo pop world...not to mention before it's time in some places.
