Free Music Notes for Scream If You Want to Go FasterFree Music Review: Scream If You Love Geri! Hit: 4 Stars
Let's admit it. Geri is NOT the world's best singer. However, she has that certain charm that attracts the whole world's attention. Following her brave and successful attempt of "Schizophonic", her debut album, Geri hands out a second dosage of solo girl power in "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster". Here's a track-by-track review:-1) Scream If You Wanna Go Faster ( 2nd Single ):- The title track of this album is a wonderful sort of rock beat fast song that can take everyone for a ride in the sun and scream along 'cuz we all wanna go faster! 2) Shake You Bootie Cutie:- If you like "Bag It Up" from her previous album, you'll like this in-your-face fast track with some wicked lyrics! 3) Calling ( 3rd Single ):- The first ballad in the album. A drastic change from the previous two tracks. A slow soothing song about a girl calling out to her love. Unfortunately, I do not particularly like this track, because it stretches Geri's voice a little bit beyond the listenable range. Plus, whenever she sings the line, "I'm Calling", it sounds like "I'm Colin"! 4) Feels Like Sex:- Back on the tracks of the first two songs, this is another one of Geri's feisty tunes with cool tempting lyrics. 5) Circles Around The Moon:- A continuation of "Lift Me Up". This wonderful sweet melody is perfect to listen in the morning. A great pick-me-up. According to Geri's website, this song is inspired by Harry Potter books, which explains the theme around putting spells in people's hearts. Lovely! Tacks 6-9 may become undetachable to some listening at first due to their similarities in the ambience of the arrangement. 6) Love Is The Only Light:- The slower of the four tracks. A good follow-up to the previous track. 7) Strength Of A Woman:- The "Girl Power" song of the album. Only this time, it is presented in the form of a sweet ballad. 8) Don't Call Me Baby:- Not to be confused with the club hit by Madison Garden, this moderately tempo song features clever lyrics and a great message. My favourite of the 4 "sister songs" of tracks 6-9. 9) Lovey Dovey Stuff:- I don't know why, but listening to this song always reminds me of a luxurious bubble bath. 10) It's Raining Men ( 1st Single ):- Probably the most well-known track of this album, it was featured in the motion picture, " Bridget Jones's Diary ". A cover of the Weather Girls classic, Geri puts her own unique style into this version and delivers a great interpretation of the song. This version should live on as being the better version of this song. 11) Heaven And Hell [ Being Geri Halliwell ]:- A strange song that is pretty hard to catch on at first. Needs a little bit of getting used to. I recommend reading the lyrics booklet while listening to this song to get the full meaning behind it. I didn't do so at first, and I was totally baffled by the complex structure of this song. However, to this date, I still tend to skip this track when listening to this album ( when I remember ). 12) I Was Made That Way ( Included in 1st Single "It's Raining Men [ Version 1 ]" ):- A wonderful closure to the album. Another sweet ballad that might have been forgotten if placed in the middle of the album, where the "sister songs" were. But, being put as a finale alone, seperated by "Heaven & Hell", it is delightful. Good effort, good production! Waiting for her third album! Go, Geri!

Once you remove the disc from it's case, Geri's written advice is "Go Play! Never lose the kid in you! What are you waiting for?"
This is no more than obvious when you begin to spin this album. This is an inspirational pop record, now that may have sounded odd. But it is true. Today, a lot of pop artist's totally rely on either a hot body or a hot track to sell records, & while that is not a bad thing & is needed at times, it doesn't exactly summarize what pop music is meant to be. Pop is an amalgam of sounds, something crafted to take you upon a journey. It is meant to have a spirit.
Geri Halliwell embodies all that is great in pop. Her persona is fun, yet at the same time she just isn't some painted up pop puppet; she's always had something to say. And Geri can't ever just say it...she does it!
From the sassy rock throwback opener of "Scream If You Wanna go Faster" to the melancholic introspective closer of "I Was Made That Way" Geri has designed a record that appeals to everyone.
While Geri isn't the most accomplished singer, some of her best vocal work is here & she continues to forge a path as one of the best vocal stylist's in the business. She writes songs that fit her range & works from there. This is apparent on probably the best ballad Geri has done to date, "Calling". A love song that tells of the back & forth attitudes lovers have in a relationship, how the journey of love is a discovery. Geri's vocal's here evoke passion, melancholy, & they surprisngly soar without grating. Other songwriting highlights include the breezy "Circles Round the Moon" & erm...'girl power' anthem that doesn't sound misdirected "Strength of A Woman".
Musically Geri stays diverse without spreading herself thin. Working from a pop foundation Geri can move from balladry soundscapes to over the top, camp dance numbers such as the "Faith" inspired "Feels Like Sex" & comical rump shaker "Shake Your Bootie Cutie".
Only when Geri tries to defend herself from the UK press on the misguided, yet interesting "Heaven & Hell (Being Geri Halliwell) does she lose her footing. It just doesn't match the tongue-in-cheek ice queen attitude of her previous press attack "You're In A Bubble" from "Schizophonic".
It seems now that Geri has lost her pop eccentricity musically, & moved in a more 'dance'-like sound direction. If you'd like to hear what may be her last eccentric sounding record, then "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster" is worth the import price tag.

Wow what a difference good producers and a decent batch of songs can do. After foisting on the public the utter cringefest of limp dance tunes and even limper ballads that constituted her debut SCHIZOPHONIC, Geri Halliwell has managed to do a complete one-eighty--if she actually had a place in the public conscience, this would be considered a miraculous comeback--with the gloriously trashy SCREAM IF YOU WANNA GO FASTER. Whereas her debut drowned her primary draw--her personality--this disc manages to bring it out in droves. Working with a clutch of strong producers(Rick Nowels, New Radicals'Gregg Alexander/Danielle Brisebois), she's managed to produce one of the giddiest pop records to come out all year, even if it is a bit kitschy. The title track,as well as 'Don't Call Me Baby, are great throwbacks to '60s guitar pop, and if 'Shake Your Booty Cutie' and 'Feels Like Sex' make you cringe at the sight of the titles, it doesn't stop them from being supremely crafted pop songs. The ballads here are also slightly better this time around, particularly the gentle 'Circles Round The Moon' and 'Love Is The Only Light'. Not to say that there aren't any time-killers--'I Was Made That Way' is pretty much vapor, and 'Heaven and Hell(Being Geri Halliwell)'could have been a wonderfully clever tongue-in-cheek track if it didn't buckle under it's own egocentricities. And the cover of 'It's Raining Men' has the requisiste drama, decent but unspectacular(though it could actually achieve camp greatness in the hands of say,Kylie Minogue), so it doesn't really add or detract from the record. As for what she passes off to record execs and the buying public as singing, well, it's actually improved somewhat(which I guess is sort of a non-statement in itself), though that's a nonissue here. It's all about having fun, which is exactly what this record is. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Geri Halliwell... Hit: 4 Stars
Pauvre Geri! En passant, c'est elle qui écrit toutes ses paroles.
Free Music Review: Can you tell she is having fun now? Hit: 4 Stars
Let's be honest here, Geri Halliwell is not recording music to set any new records or turn the music world on its head. She is simply here to make us smile, have a little fun, and for god's sake, to lighten up.She left the Spice Girls in May 1998, she swore she would be back. In 1999 she made good on that promise and debuted her debut album, Schizophonic in June. It did well, three #1 hits, not bad for a girl who supposedly cannot sing. For 2001 she is back, brighter, feistier, and sassier than ever. Scream If You Wanna Go Faster is the album that is allowing Geri to be just that, Geri. From the title cut, reminiscent of 60s pop rock, to the cover of The Weather Girl's surprise hit, It's Raining Men. Already having reached #1, Raining Men shows Geri can have fun and not care what the critics think. The album is full of ballads, dance floor grooves and her one track per album of basically goofieness. Heaven and Hell showcases what this girl goes through every time she steps outside the door. For heaven's sake, play the CD, sit back, smile, laugh a little. If you can do that, then you accomplished what Geri set out to do.
