Free Music Notes for MIA: The Complete AnthologyFree Music Review: Good album Hit: 5 Stars
This ablum contains all of the Germ's singles and their only studio album. This is an incredible punk album and belongs in your album collection if you're a fan of punk. Everything in the CD is perfect except the fact the Sex Boy has horrible sound quality (but whats funny is that on the last page of the booklet it says ''We make NO apologies for the sound quality of any of these recordings) but its quite funny to hear the choas that is going on while they perform. I highly recommend this collection of recordings.
Free Music Review: Germs - 'MIA: The Complete Anthology' (Rhino) Hit: 5 Stars
Review #66. With a total of thirty tracks and most of them running the typical two-minute classic punk duration, one would assume this CD is the Germ's entire repertoire but I have it on good authority that it's not. Nonetheless, 'MIA' is still a must-have for any and all true fans of all American punk. Just a few of these tunes I liked best include "Sex Boy", "Circle One", the slap-in-the-face "American Leather", the ten-minute "Shut Down (Annihilation Man)" and "Now I Hear My Laughter". A definite gotta-have.
Free Music Review: Snap Crackle Pop! Hit: 5 Stars
At first the sound may appear to bear a passing similarity to a train careering off the rails - the music pulling itself apart while the vocals (a characteristic sneering smeared prescence throughout) try to keep pace or go off in another direction altogether. The lyrics show an odd poetic sensibility at play, and there is a certain amount of pathos to be derived from them given Darby Crash's early death. Stay with it and you will be rewarded - one of the best punk albums, period. Catchy too!
Free Music Review: Living in Infamy Hit: 5 Stars
This disc is a must have for anyone who wants to touch the reality of the LA punk scene as the 70's ended and the 80's began. I was coming of age in the Inland Empire during that time, and this was one of my life soundtracks. I hope the CD comes with lyric sheet (included in original vinyl album) because -yes- they are that good. My teenager was in awe when I pulled out this album and shared it with him. Don't let the next generation neglect these true roots. Let 'em listen to Iggy, too.
Free Music Review: Legendary punk album Hit: 5 Stars
This album is special to me, not only because the music is great, but because it was among the first albums that got me into punk rock. Darby Crash's lyrics were nihilistic and meaningful. There's something very dark about the songs too. All the great songs are on this collection, including my favorites (Circle One, No God, Communist Eyes, Lexicon Devil, Our Way, and Dragon Lady). Be warned, this has a much harder sound than many hardcore punk bands of the time.
