Free Music Notes for Gettysburg: Music From The Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: De-dee de-dee-duuuuuum ... de-dee de-dee duuuuuum ... Hit: 5 StarsI love to hum the main refrain of this soundrack every time I beat my nine-year-old at Othello or chess. (The movie helped interest him in the Civil War which I am grateful for.) The point of this sacrilege being, of course, that victory can and should be reduced to a level of whimsy lest we start taking ourselves too seriously. All the nice things about this music that should be said have already been said. I do appreciate that a movie like this without a music soundtrack would have all the majesty of a washed-up whale carcass. The audience would be left feeling cheated. But I do think the Hollywood folks have prettified the corpse a bit much so to speak. There is everything about movie-making in this music. Nothing is audible about the real nightmare of Gettysburg and the stupidity of war. But as far as soundtracks go, this is a darn good piece of work. I would suggest if you want to get truly close to what happened on that battlefield it would be far more realistic to turn down the volume and play sound effects on your stereo .... blood-chilling sound effects. Men shrieking, groaning, weeping, dying.
Free Music Review: Almost 5 stars. A wonderful soundtrack. Hit: 4 Stars"Gettysburg" was a wonderful movie, and anyone who enjoyed it will doubtless want to own and enjoy this soundtrack. The music of "Gettysburg" complimented the movie very, very well, and it is a pleasure to listen to in its own right. The battle music of "Battle of Little Round Top" is perhaps the most rousing battle music I've ever heard--unforgettable. The rest of the album is quite good as well. The ONLY reason I did not award the fifth star is that this album lacks a big blockbuster comparable, for example, to Mary Fahl's wonderful "Going Home" on the "Gods and Generals" soundtrack. That aside, this is a very very good soundtrack featuring excellent music which captures the Civil War theme beautifully and effectively.
Free Music Review: Amazing! Simply Amazing! Hit: 5 StarsLiving in the Gettysburg area, I can't tell you how much this music really depicts everything that goes on her now and that had happened in the past. This music is so inspiring to anyone who listens to it. Randy Edelman has a true talent and with Gettysburg (His Best Score By Far), it is sure to become an epic soundtrack!
Free Music Review: Great CD! Hit: 5 StarsThis is a great CD with great music. Perfect to listen to if you just want to relax. Brings the same emotion that the movie does. If you liked the movie and the book you should add the cd to your collection.
