The first time I heard Glenn Gould play was in the late 1960's, when I lived in Russia. These were the 2-part and 3-part Inventions by Bach.
I was twenty years old, and had little experience in listening to classical music, but the record made the music of Bach accessible for me.
Ever since I made an effort to acquire recordings of Glenn Gould. It so happened that these were mostly performances of Bach, Mozart, and Haydn.
And now I finally acquired all of Gould's performances, arranged in a chronological order.
On one hand, I experienced a nostalgic experienc. On the other hand, there is plenty of good music in one package here.
I would like to thank Sony and Amazon for providing this wonderful experience.
Free Music Review: A True Jewel of a Set

This set of Glenn Gould's recorded works is an amazing bargain for the price. The novelty of the box and CD holders are a fun touch to the collection; and the sound quality across the collection is wonderful.
With such a big set, sometimes there are a few quirks. Though I have not experienced problems such with CD-37 or others so far listed; I did find that CD 63-a (The Glenn Gould Silver Jubilee Album) had its track titles all mixed up from their correct pieces/movements. On some random others I found all titles and tracks in an Asian font.
This didn't bother me too much though, as I can just edit the titles and tracks when I put them on my computer.
I am thrilled with this collection! I recommend anyone who loves Mr. Gould's spirited musical interpretations, to get this collection while it lasts.
Such a great set to have (with album covers) on my Zune :).

If you don't have any CDs with classical music yet, but would really have some, then this box is really a wonderful way to start with. Glenn Gould was a genius in his own way with a vanguard attitude to the interpretation of the "holy" works. If you know the pieces well, but never heard the Gould's versions, may be it's time to breathe in some fresh fragrance from the known source.
Pro: you have the complete studio recordings of Glenn Gould with original LP packaging artwork.
Contra: the CDs are packaged direct into carton without any inlays neither of soft paper nor of plastic. And it's a pity, because if you're going to listen to them often, then you can scratch the CDs. And if you're a CD/record collector then you don't have lots of spare place, that's why you won't take 70 empty CD-boxes in order to handle them properly...
Nevertheless, you will have much joy with it!

If the name Glenn Gould brings a smile to your ears, and you are familiar with the names of the composers whose music he played, then you will have no choice but to be spellbound by the quantity, quality and variety offered in this collection.
I have only begun listening to the first few of the 80 CD's and they have been refreshingly nostalgic, reminding me of my first trials and joys of piano learning and listening. As well, they reminded me of what makes pianists great. And there's more than the discs. The jackets, the booklets, with all the names and dates and details make this a cultural and historical trip as well. It's like a great biography only there's audio to go with it, an audio that you don't hear everyday, and aren't likely to unless you listen for it. This is the most comprehensive collection of any musical artist I have seen and the most entertaining. A treasure.
Free Music Review: Yes there are issues with CD 37, but it's still darn cool!

The product is truly fantastic. The quality of the box set is superb and I completely recommend it. I picked it up for $109.00 during one of those random price fluctuations that happen on Amazon so I'm very happy.
However, be aware that CD 37 does indeed have problems. Track 27 crashed iTunes (spinning wheel of death due to CD read errors), 26, 28 have short bursts of white noise. Track 30 has a nice loud burst right at the top of the track and so does 31 at about the :43 second mark.
If anyone has come up with a better way to get a good pressing of this CD without playing box set ping-pong with Amazon please leave a comment. Either way I look at it, for the price you can't beat this set.
