Free Music Review: Historic performances, cool packaging, and huge value

I am extremely pleased with this collection and fantastic price. Without the benefit of this excellent value I would never have the opportunity to hear some of the wonderful, but lesser known pieces Gould recorded. According to the packaging all the recordings were digitally re-mastered, some appear to have benefited more than others. Don't expect 96/24 sonics, but overall everything is quite acceptable and Gould's soul comes through loud and clear.
If you enjoy keyboard music don't let this set pass you by, even if you only know Gould's Bach as I did, this set will allow you to learn about his other sides -- rather inexpensively.

I still cannot forget the first time I listened to the Goldberg Variations in my early college year. I thought I was listening to Bach himself and clearly articulated notes relentlessly pierced my brain nerve cells. It was like an elegant mathematical equation whirling around and around. Since then, Gould has been the most cherished pianist to me.
Gould was one of the few musicians who really understood the possibilities of recording technologies. And I'm sad he didn't live longer to see this great collection.
And finally, I expose myself to his entire piano collection. Just looking at them is a pure joy.

I had not idea of the depth and breath of Glenn Gould's recordings. I was fairly well acquainted with the Goldberg variations, but was pleasantly surprised by all the other works he recorded as well. I have not listened to all the CDs yet, but thus far, I cannot fault the quality of the performances nor their recording quality. I own a high-end hi-fi gear and the musicality of the works is very well communicated. Thouroughly enjoyable, this set will provide with many hours of listening pleasure and will complete one's appreciation of Glenn Gould's talent.Free Music Review: AS GOOD AS IT GETS !

Note: I later discovered I had the problem with #37, and got no response from the Sony number we got by email. Amazon is now going to refund my first copy, and provided the return shipping label to send the entire collection back.
I have now received my new copy and so far it seems fine! The set is well worth the extra legwork to get a good copy! This wonderful collection is now my finest possession! Thanks, Amazon....
Free Music Review: Sony does the Unexpected.

As several reviewers have already indicated, this set is an unbelievable value. At a cost of just under $3 per CD, this set is priced at about 1/4th of the price of the individual CDs. I am not sure what motivated such generosity on the part of Sony, but I sincerely doubt that it will last. As to the CDs, some critics find Gould's interpretations too subjective. I disagree. Now I don't always agree with Gould's choice of tempo, but I am certain that what sounds like subjectivity to some sounds like inspiration to me. Bravo Gould. Bravo Sony.
