Free Music Review: Brings Back Memories
Hit: 5 Stars

My Wife was one of the original Cuban Refugees 40+ yrs ago and this wonderful music brings back the good memories.

Free Music Review: Another Stellar Addition...
Hit: 5 Stars

"90 Millas" is another stellar addition to Gloria's catalog, and ranks among her finest albums in any language. There have been many comparisons between this CD and 1993's "Mi Tierra," but "90 Millas" is a much more modern take on Cuban music, though it does draw heavily on the musical sounds of the past. Therefore, it is not "Mi Tierra: Part 2," but rather a blend of traditional concepts with modern sensibilities. What makes this album a stand-out is its stellar musicianship-Gloria is joined by 25 of the Latin world's top artists in an all-star celebration of the culture-and passionate, assured vocals. Gloria always sounds especially comfortable when singing in her native tongue, and these new songs showcase that confidence. From the yearning of "Esperando (Cuando Cuba Sea Libre)" to the urgency of the title track, her voice blends with the island rhythms in an intoxicating cacaphony of sound. She is sensuos on "Me Odio" and the beautiful ballad "Besame" and fearless on "Caridad," an irresistable and highly danceable highlight. And then there's "Morenita," which sounds unlike Gloria has ever done. It's the perfect track to showcase how this artist can blend the sounds of the past with those of the future seamlessly. The production on "90 Millas" is top-notch and each song is a winner, which is rare in today's market of filler material. The album, as a whole, is more consistent than "Abriendo Puertas" (1995) and bolder and more rhythmic than "Alma Caribena" (2000), making it an absolute pleasure to listen to, regardless of the language you speak.

Free Music Review: Beautiful & full of great rhythm.
Hit: 5 Stars

I am really surprised at the number of bad reviews on amazon regarding this CD. If you don't like Gloria, then obviously you're not going to like a Gloria Estefan album. In my opinion, this album is EXCELLENT, and definitely a high-quality latin dance album. There's an authentic flavor to the rhythms and sounds in each track.

With comparison to current trends in the salsa/merengue music world, it retains a more classic or traditional style, and for the most part could have probably been recorded in the 1960s before tech-ed up remixes were around. The only exception really is in the remix of "No Llores"...which is a bonus track on some versions of this CD.

If you liked "Mi Tierra," I'd safely bet that you will LOVE this album. It has great tracks that, if she had released this and Mi Tierra together, they would transition almost flawlessly back-to-back. The feel and the rhythms have that same flavor of Mi Tierra, with a little less violin/classical strings. The CD is very heavy on its Afro-Cuban/Cuban roots, so it's definitely a great CD to partner dance to.

A side note to the review that cites all of the other artists from other countries...that's nice, I'm glad you have an opinion. However, don't think you can speak for all of Latin America (myself included). Btw, Hector Lavoe is from Puerto Rico (/New York...one of the birthplaces of Salsa), so I don't get the whole Peru tie-in...and you kind of left out Celia Cruz (= BIG DEAL) among many others (Tito Puentes, Johnny Pacheco, and the list goes on). Gloria & Emilio also produce tracks for many of today's popular artists, Shakira included. They're kind of a big deal in the Latin music industry bro...sorry, but you're being ignorant to criticize Mi Tierra and Gloria like that w/o taking into consideration their contributions to the world of Latin music and how they've helped spread the Hispanic musical heritage across the globe.

Free Music Review: Just O.K.
Hit: 3 Stars

This album sounds like less exciting retreads of Mi Tierra and Alama Caribena. The Title Track just sounds like Carlos Santana with Gloria as Guest Vocalist.
The Best song is Negrita. The production by the Drop Dead Beats guys, really puts a modern twist on the music. Should be the next single!
I need to listen to it some more to see if some more songs catch on.

Love you Glorita.

Free Music Review: Mi Tierra - Alma caribena, que mas ?
Hit: 3 Stars

well, she sings perfectly well, music behind is really serious, it grooves, the tunes sounds ok, but...it is just the remake of "alma carribena". this LP "alma carribena" was a logical following, and slightly different than "mi tierra", so it brought something new, interesting. This new one sounds ok, but it is just a remake (but anyway much better than unwrapped !)

if it is the first time you hear Gloria in this context you love it.

pero si te gusta gloria, lo compraras !
