Free Music Notes for Awake

Free Music Review: Another impressive album by Godsmack.
Hit: 5 Stars

I was quite surprised when I bought this album. I can say that I am a quite long-time groupie, so to speak, of Sully and the band. Bleh. I remember getting the self-titled before it got that dreadful Parental Advisory. It seems so long ago.

After listening to the self-titled, I was absolutely hooked on songs like "Voodoo" and "Whatever", both different songs with intense lyrics [especially Voodoo]. After seeing another disappointment with Offspring's Americana, I was hoping this wasn't going to be another sequel flop. After seeing the video for "Awake", I was extremely hopeful..

This CD blew all my expectations away.

Not only was this CD much more intense than the self-titled, I was blown to bits by the lyrics and all the melodies themselves. I was instantaniously hooked on "Spiral" and "Forgive Me", two of the more mellow songs.

For all of you who are Godsmack fans and haven't got this CD.. GO GET IT! It's worth the money to buy it. If you aren't long-time Godsmack fans, this is a good album to start with. Either way, you're getting a good buy.

Free Music Review: Better than the Debut!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a fan of Godsmack since the debut of there first album, so I was most certainly going to buy the new album "Awake". With most bands, when purchasing there first album, then buying there second one, you kinda know what to expect. Not this one. I bought the new album thinking that there heaviest track would be the same song as there single, and there first video, "Awake." I was wrong! This time around, Godsmack are a lot more angrier, with a more hard hitting guitar riffs. On there first CD, I think that they were more towards the experimental side, just trying new stuff. And, I think that there first CD was more like "vampire, witch craft" kinda of feel to it. But this album is more harder than the first one, and instead of just 4 good songs (like the first one) this has about the whole album being really good. So, if you thought that Godsmack's first CD was, "okay" then you should buy this one, because I think that after listening to the new album, you will become more "Awake" to what Godsmack has to offer!!

Free Music Review: Better than the first
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't know why the negative ratings in here for this album. I think AWAKE is really great, probably one of the best rock albums of the year. Godsmack have created its own style, although it's not too original, a style that sounds really great. The band didn't change too much after the first self-titled album, which is a good thing, considering that most bands today have this tendency of becoming more and more commercial. AWAKE is a tough album, again with no ballads, only strong powerfull metal. Sully sings great, he has a very good voice, which blends perfectly with the other instruments. Most songs on this album are really great, and the fact that they are alike is a big ... .

Of course there are some bad parts too: the lyrics aren't too great, and i didn't like the fact that the final track on Awake is very similar to the final track of the first album, Voodoo.

But everything else is great, check out BAD MAGICK, SICK OF LIFE and VAMPIRES, definetely the best songs on the CD.

I'd rate this 4.5 out of 5 stars, but since that's not possible, let's make it a 5/5.

Free Music Review: GODSMACK 5 Stars

There is no other band out there like Godsmack. They define heavy metal perfectly. There music gives you such an adrenaline rush. Don't mind the people saying this album and Godsmack in general is stupid, they don't know what they're talking about. Both their first self-titled album and Awake or both worth buying.

My favorite band for a long time was Metallica, but as soon as Godsmack came on the scene, Godsmack and their music blew Metallica right out of the water. People that don't like Godsmack just can't appreciate the talent these guys have. Godsmack, in my opinion, is the best metal band out there and will be for many years into the future. Their new strong hit 'I Stand Alone,' that they made for 'The Scorpion King,' is outstanding.

Sully Erna's voice blends in perfectly with the guitar and drum riffs around him, I don't know of any band head singer that can do that as well as Sully. Sully's voice is made for heavy metal music. Godsmack is the most talented heavy metal band out there.

GODSMACK />Hands Down!

Free Music Review: What you see, I can't see it...
Hit: 5 Stars

You know what, I hated heavy metal until I heard these guys. I really did. When I saw the video premiere of "Awake" last year on THE BOX, I was inspired. Now, of course, I bought both their albums, wear Godsmack T-Shirts... Okay, so they changed their style a bit from their first album. Fine, that proves that they aren't sellouts. However, I'm into fast-paced punk rock and speed metal like SR-71, Megadeth, Incubus, and Mudvayne, so, "Awake" and "Greed" are really the only two I listened to at the start. After a while, "Spiral" and "Vampires" grew on me, too. The bottom line is this: This CD is a great example of what true heavy metal IS, not what KoRn & Co. made it. Sully's voice is made for metal, and the guitar solos and bass riffs are creepy(a good thing) and psychedelic. True, their old album has more variety and good songs, but "Awake", "Spiral", and "Greed" make this sophomore effort worth buying. I mean, if your debut goes 3x platinum, how much better can you get?
