Free Music Notes for AwakeFree Music Review: Quicksand 2000 Hit: 5 Stars
Godsmack recorded its self-titled debut for 1,500 dollars and served up a triple-platinum helping of meaty, cleverly written, pure metal. The tribal "Voodoo" was one of 2000's best singles. Unfortunately, the group's sophomore effort, Awake, doesn't live up to its predecessor. The first three songs - "Sick of Life," "Awake," and "Greed" - blend together unanimously into a swirl of Tony Rombola's jackhammer guitar riffs. It's the deeper cuts that are the standout tracks. The dirgy, slow groove in "Mistakes" is hook laden. One common thread between Godsmack and Awake is lead singer Sully Erna's angst-ridden lyrics. "Oh God, I'm makin' the same mistakes," he cries in "Mistakes," as Rombola's guitars encircle him. Drummer Tommy Stewart, on "Trippin'," aptly pronounces Erna's anger in "Face down/I walk away/Every time I think I do the right thing/You turn your back on me." The album opens with the pronouncement, "I'm gonna do it again." Probably not.
Free Music Review: This album always fascinates me.... Hit: 5 Stars
I love it. I simply love it. When i bought this, i was going through a particularly tough time in my life - and a new Godsmack cd always brought a smile to my face. and when i heard the song sick of life - i could relate. and thats one of the many reasons i love godsmack. you can relate too alot of their lyrics. This album is a bit more, well a step in a slightly different direction but not really. There are more octaves, more chords in general. and thats a good thing. The best sounds, although, once again - all the songs rule, are Sick of Life, Awake, Greed, Trippin and Vampires (which was grammy nominated for best instrumental and should have FREAKING WON!!!) All the songs on this are great, powerful, heavy and as always - angry. Sully is an amazing lyricist/vocalist (as is everyone in that band in their rightful positions). The f**kers who gave this album bad reviews must be crazy, because this and ALL Godsmack released simply rule. So go pick this up, its the second best godsmack album *THEY ALL RULE*.
Free Music Review: Good Stuff!!! Hit: 5 Stars
A lot of people I know prefer Godsmack's Self titled debut over this sophmore release. Personally, I prefer this one. It's MUCH heavier and louder. I have to agree with some people on the repetition. Sometimes the songs do sound alike. In fact, that's the biggest complaint I hear about Godsmack. However, aside from that, it's obvious that Sully Erna and the boys have done their heavy metal homework extensively. I do hear hints of Alice In Chains here and there, but I also hear a lot of Sabbath. I have been a metalhead for well over 25 years and I have to say that Godsmack is one of the better Metal bands to come around in the phase of nu-metal. They are not nu-metal in my opinion, however they seem to get thrown into that category. The only bad thing about that is, nu-metal is pretty much dead...I only hope that Godsmack can keep it together and reinvent themselves once again to fit into the metal category...which they deserve.
Free Music Review: Asked for a heavier Creed? Hit: 5 Stars
Godsmack this time is more than ever full of dark adrenalizing energy that's all in their extremely heavy riffs, impressive (simply burying) vocals, and agressive, though realistic lyrics. They rock hard and sound heavier than on their debut album, and that helps: you feel them different, you know they're all the same, and you are pleased with the power they readily share with any listener. Sick of Life is the absolute hit and perfect opener for the cd like this. You will admire Awake and Greed, and dear ol'Goin' Down, as well as Trippin', Forgive Me, Bad Magick and Spiral will impress you as much as the real music only can. Vampires is the original news from Godsmack, but the music is unbelievable. The only thing you can probably be disappointed with is the album has only 11 tracks. But all of them are good, aren't they? Anyway the cd's great and worth your money.
Free Music Review: Awake to Hate Hit: 5 Stars
Godsmack has not made many albums compared to other artist, like Nine Inch Nails or Rob Zombie, but I really think thats what makes almost all of their albums interesting and fun. This is my personal favorite. The song Sick of Life is something I can really relate to and describes how I feel most of the time. Awake is a song I really would'nt listen to unless I'm in a really good mood. Greed is song that has lyrics that are powerful, but somewhat slow. Bad Magick and Goin down are not songs on the album I listen to often, but they are sort of catchy. Mistakes is another song I like and can listen to frequently. Trippin' is very similar to Mistakes, except that the intro is not as powerful and the vocals are more heavier. The other songs I have not heard because I don't have the CD, but instead an Mp3, but I'm sure there somewhat decent.
