Free Music Review: Godsmack Crank Up The Volume For 'Faceless'...
Hit: 5 Stars

Godsmack have become household names in the rock world, thanks to two multi-million selling albums that put Godsmack on the map. After the double platinum AWAKE, where was Godsmack to turn? Nowhere, except up. FACELESS is a pummeling assault on the ears, the most metal album they have done, maybe even more so than their self-titled album (another version of ALL WOUND UP). Here, with new drummer Shannon Larkin, Godsmack turn up the volume and the crunch is even more prominent, with Tony Rambola's vicious, teething guitar a back drop for Sully's anguished, punishing vocals...even Robbie on bass provides a nice thick bottom to compliment Shannon's nifty drumwork.

"Straight Out Of Line" was meant for radio, but more so it's a blistering assault on the ears. Likewise, "Re-Align" and the fierce and nasty "I F***ing Hate You" are both venomous yet catchy and downright crunchy. The title track is also a rollicking affair, and the inclusion of the classic "I Stand Alone" keeps the album's intensity genuine. But most surprising is the similarity of ending the album with the swirling, brooding "Serenity" which certainly lives up to its name with its dreamy acoustic guitars and congas. It seems like a cousin to "Voodoo", but "Serenity" has its own voice...a very soothing one at that. Make no mistake, though...most of FACELESS is meant to please the headbangers and metal fans who like the harder side of Godsmack. It certainly does possess the best assets of Godsmack...fierce, crunchy alterna-metal that will seep into your brain upon hearing it first listen.

FACELESS represents the brutal beauty of Godsmack, their scars beared for all to see. Containing some of the most heavy songs written, and even two atmospheric tracks that compliment the end of the album nicely, FACELESS is another solid affair from the Boston area boys.

Free Music Review: Possibly the best album ever....
Hit: 5 Stars

Godsmack. What can I say about them? They are simply a excellent band. Best band in the world. I am a diehard Godsmack fan myself, and I can safely say this is their best album to date (followed by their self-titled debut). Some will complain it is very generic, too heavy, too profanic, ect - well, it isn't generic - it's Godsmack. Look what happened to Metallica when they 'evovled' - they were abandoned. Godsmack is a powerful, energetic band that is solid. I hope they never change. All the songs on this album are excellent. The best songs incldue 'Realign', 'Releasing the Demons', 'I F****** Hate You', 'I Stand Alone' & 'Make Me Believe'. But, don't get me wrong - all the songs on this album are awesome in their own dark, metallic right. The lyrics are excellent anger vents as usual (which is good). Very good lyrics, and comforting and adrenaline rushing when you hear disgruntled frontman Sully Erna scream things such as 'I F****** HATE YOU!" and "I, I Stand Alone! Inside me, I Stand Alone!" Mr. Tony Rombola is an excellent guitar player, very reminiscent of early Alice In Chains, Late Black Sabbath - very hard hitting and low tuned with some fuzz. Good stuff. Also - with Sully providing rythmn on some tracks - Tony is free to shred on solo's and they are excellent! Speaking of Sully - his voice is great here! Growling, pretty good range and very angry and powerful. He make's Eminem look like Barney Singalongs. Powerful Stuff there, Mr. Erna. The bass is great as well. Very groovy and deep - good job mr. merril. Now this is the GS debut of new drummer Shannon Larkin (Ugly Kid Joe & Amen) - and he is astounding. Absolutley bashing thoose cybals and toms. I hope Mr. Larkin sticks around for a while. As an accomplished musician - this is probably the best album i own by the BEST BAND EVER.

Free Music Review: Godsmack standing alone in their unique sound
Hit: 5 Stars

After a quick change in line-up, Godsmack is back and rising to the top of the music scene. Sadly, Tommy Stewart left the band last summer, but their new drummer Shannon Larkin is definitely a choice replacement. In their new CD Faceless, Sully Erna's empassioned voice and new range in vocals adds new acheivement for the band. It is the strong emotion in Sully's voice that perhaps holds one of the key ingredients to Godsmack's unique sound. They aren't following the same sound as almost every other band of today- trying to achieve the grunge sound of Nirvana or the "punk" bands that sound more like pop music with guitars. No. The anger flows from Sully Erna's voice with such intensity, such passion, that we know it is for real. The infectious, yet heavy guitar rifts played by Tony Rombola keep the songs stuck in your head. While on songs like "The Awakening" Shannon Larkin's drumming adds the tribal tone to the music. And Robbie Merrill's bass drifts through the songs, giving them the very cohesiveness they need as the final touch. We hear blazing hatred in "I F****** Hate You" and mysticism in "Serenity" and "The Awakening". In other songs like "I Stand Alone", "Faceless" and "Releasing The Demons" we hear the anthem of letting go and of absolute freedom. Godsmack shows what the music scene of today has potential to become. ... So who do we look to as role models for good music? Listen to the new CD Faceless and you will know the answer. A band different from the rest and more dedicated to their fans, music, and just plain having fun than to corporations and money. They worked their asses off to get where they are today, and they plan on sticking around. So the world beware- there is real music on the scene now. One listen to Godsmack's new cd Faceless, and music will be redefined in your eyes.

Free Music Review: Their strongest, most solid album yet!
Hit: 5 Stars

Godsmack's newest release gives what you got with "Awake", and builds on that. When you heard "I Stand Alone" off of "The Scorpion King" soundtrack, it gave you a taste of what was to come from the Boston-based hard rock/metal band. Heavier riffs, stronger lyrics, and an overall sense of evolution for them. Just from the opening track, the first single, "Straight Out Of Line", you can even tell that the once not-too-memorable solos have gotten greatly better. Godsmack's talent has grown into an even more powerful force than before.

Also, their new drummer, Shannon Larkin (formerly of Amen), proves his worth here with great & energetic pounding drum tracks. Sully's vocals are as great as ever as he tears the lyrics from the depths of his being. Anger, frustration, a building rage, and an overall intensity define his vocal stylings. Tony Rombola's guitar & Robbie Merrill's bass both bring a powerful, headbanging groove to the album.

Overall, I say this is Godsmack's best album yet. It's as heavy as "Awake", but even more polished & solid. I listened to the entire album, track-by-track, and I didn't have the urge to switch off one single song. It's a rare thing for that to happen, and I applaud these Boston bad @$$es for crafting such a strong, unified album. With two and a half years between the releases of "Awake" and "Faceless", they had the time to mold these 12 tracks into one helluva an awesome album!

I would suggest getting the "Explicit" version or else you'll miss out on the full-on bad @$$-ity that is "I F'ing Hate You". Though, both the "explicit" and the "clean" versions are enhanced CDs that will take you to a special page on VooDooTribe.com to access the album lyrics (not included in the booklet), some live tracks, the fan club, and more.

Free Music Review: A Great Hard Rock Album
Hit: 5 Stars

Godsmack's third album gave us a new Godsmack. They had a new (and much better) drummer named Shannon Larkin and a different sound. They were still good ol'
angry Godsmack with crunching guitars, great basslines, and quick wristed fast drumming. Sully Erna's lyrics still stank of anger and pain, but they also had some slower melodic songs like "Serenity" which sounds like the song "Voodoo" off their first album but is way better. The album is a masterpiece of rock, every song is a five star song except "I Am" which is just a little weaker than the other songs. But here's the track list:

1. Straight Out of Line
2. Faceless
3. Changes
4. Make Me Believe
5. I Stand Alone
6. Re-Align
7. I F**king Hate You
8. Releasing the Demons
9. Dead & Broken
10. I Am
11. The Awakening
12. Serenity

The album opens with "Straight Out of Line" which is awesome and has a great music video too if you ever get to check that out. "Faceless" features a pretty angry Sully Erna. "Changes" is less angry and shows how diverse Godsmack can be. "Make Me Believe" has cool lyrics and is one of the best songs on the album. "I Stand Alone" is on the radio a lot, but is cool. "Re-Align" is another song you hear on the radio a lot, but is much better when played loud. "I F**king Hate You" has some smart lyricism.
"Releasing the Demons" is the 2nd best song on the album, in my opinion. "Dead & Broken" is another Godsmack classic. "I Am" is good, but it's the weakest song on the album. "The Awakening" is a weird & quick drum solo. The album closes with my favorite song on the album "Serenity" which is very much like "Voodoo" but a lot better.
