Free Music Notes for FacelessFree Music Review: Faceless Hit: 5 Stars
Here we are with Faceless. I love the heaviness of this album. From the first song you know that this is going to be good. I believe that this "new" Godsmack was an attempt to shed any AIC influence whatsoever, and it actually works out to their favor. I don't believe we'll have a Godsmack II for a long time, if ever. The fire of the dual and triple Rectifiers blast through the speakers and sounds blissful. Definitely something for your rock parties. The strong points on this album are the heavy aggressive riffing and the guitar solos, and the killer drum fills. The hint of AIC in this production would be the closer, much like on Alice in Chains' last album, where they closed with Over Now, but that's pretty much it. Faceless picked up where Awake left off, and does so in spectacular fashion. True, there are filler tracks on this album, and some of them are actually pretty good once you get used to them. Personal favorites are I Am, Dead and Broken, Changes, Realign, and Straight out of Line. I've noticed more of a James Hetfield influence in Sully's singing on this album, and it especially shines on the song Faceless, which is another one of my favorites. Overall, Godsmack is starting to find their niche with this album. The songwriting is good, and sounds more original than their debut, nothing against the debut album, but this is Godsmack the band, not the Alice in Chains cover band they started out as. If Straight Out of Line is the first time you've ever heard a Godsmack song, listen to their debut, pick it up if you like it. Chances are, you may or may not like it, but go from there and you can see where Godsmack came from and where they are right now. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: The Best and Heaviest Godsmack Yet Hit: 5 Stars
When I first heard this CD, I automatically recognized the new, vicious sting that this album single-handedly possesses over the first two releases. "Faceless" has an all together heavier and more vibrant sound to it with Sully Erna experimenting with higher vocal ranges with that raspy scream of his. Tony Rombola has a much better sound, and displays much more skill than the previous two releases with an opening "Tom Morello" kind of sensibility. The new drummer, technically better than the last with a whole heck of a lot more power behind that set. I almost expected something similar to the last two releases, but after having it in my CD player for a week I realized that this has more power and more explosive potential to be a huge success. I am having a hard time understanding how people could say that "Faceless" is similar to the others, but that is strictly their opinion. I have found that this album has more VARIETY in sound than the PAST TWO releases. Higher pitches on guitars, higher pitched vocal runs, and more two guitar work than before. That already opens this release up full throttle, folks. Stand out tracks? Well, "Straight Out of Line", "Changes", "Make Me Believe", "Re-Align", and "I F*#%ing Hate You" are the first ones to come to mind. Those last two tracks just give it that "This is Godsmack, no doubt." "The Awakening" is just so much better than previous releases "Voodoo" and "Spiral". The track is uplifting and very unique with Tony Rombola sporting an acoustic for it. I was astounded by this release and every other UNSUSPECTING Godsmack fan should be too.
Free Music Review: the best yet Hit: 5 Stars
I own all three of Godsmack's albums and in my opinion...this is by far the best of them all...the guitarist seems to have gotten better...of course they have a new drumer (shannon larkin) which is like the old 1 but better..and really fun to watch...sully also experiments w/ the vocals...heres my rating on each song:1. straight out of line (5/5) - awesome radio-ready song 2. faceless (5/5) - almost reminds me of whatever because of the repeating riffs and beats...still an awesome song...could even be single worthy 3. changes (5/5) - awesome song...1 of my favorites...probably will be a single 4. make me believe (5/5) - good song...nice chorus....another probable single 5. i stand alone (4/5) - i gave it a 4 only cus im tired of hearing it haha..but its a really good song nevertheless 6. re-align (5/5) - awesome song...another of my favorits...catchy chorus...singleworthy 7. i f***in hate you (4/5) - not a bad song...could have been a little more creative w/ the lyrics but its not bad...almost a lil humorus even though its not supposed to me 8. releasing the demons (3/5) - its an ok song...i really dont care for it too much... 9. dead and broken (4/5) - no comment 10. i am (4/5) - good chorus...dont like some certain references...i.e. "i am the devel's eye" 11. the awakening (3/5) - this is an instrumental into to serenity...its mostly native drums 12. serenity - (5/5) well they kept the "last song is a slow 1" tradition haha. but its actually a good song. reminds me of an accoustic voodoo...could be a single. buy this cd
Free Music Review: Best Godsmack effort to date Hit: 5 Stars
I've always loved the vocals and hard hitting riffs of Godsmack, but this album proves to be their best effort so far. Only one complaint about it(with most nu-metal bands) is the song structures are so predictable(into, main riff, chorus, main riff, chorus, solo, exagerrated chorus). But none the less the cd is still killer. I also noticed more thought out and better solos on this album1. Straight Out Of Line - 10/10 - Typical Godsmack song, hard hitting and all around great vocals plus solo. 2. Faceless - 7/10 - Suppose to be one of the best on here but I think it could be better, still very nice but not the best 3. Changes - 9/10 - Killer riff topped off with great chorus and solo 4. Make Me Believe - 8/10 - Just seem to really enjoy this song. Not much to say about it 5. I Stand Alone - 10+/10 - Came out a little awhile ago as a single, but this is what Godsmack is all about. This is possibly the best song they ever did. 6. Re-Align - 10/10 - Another out standing song with all the elements of a killer song 7. I F****** Hate You - 7/10 - Nice riff but doesnt really stand out. 8. Releasing The Demons - 8/10 - Not much to say except a great song, hard hitting as usual 9. Dead & Broken - 7/10 - Chorus is kinda weak, but I really like the riff in this song. 10.I Am - 9/10 - The Chorus riff to this song is exceptional 11. The Awakening - 6/10 - just tribal drumming, doesnt really do much for me. 12. Serenity - 6/10 - Slowest song on here and probably the weakest. Just one long melodic and repetitive song.
Free Music Review: Oh my... Hit: 5 Stars
... This is one of the best cds that haa come out this year, and let me tell you I was majorly impressed, as I pretty much expected to happen. Faceless is Godsmack's heaviest effort, and I think one of the reasons is because of the new drummer. Godsmack is one of the best bands out there today, they produce such raw energy when they play it's scary. The only problem I have with them though, is that they say "away" too much. But their lyrics, although not the greatest in the world, do possess a ton of aggression ESPECIALLY "I (Fudge)ing Hate You," whoever Sully was referring to in this song makes me glad to not be that person. I can't name any favorites off this cd, I like them all equally. I love how Godsmack always ends their albums with a "Voodoo"-type song, last cd it was "Spiral," this time it's the twisted "Serenity." And wouldn't you know it, they start it off with some sort of a tribal musical number called "The Awakening." I'm sure by now most of you have heard both "Straight Out of Line" and "I Stand Alone" (which I never though for a second that it was going to be on this album). They are terrific additions to this heavy-arse album, Godsmack are THE replacement for Metallica, which needed to be done in the first place considering Metallica are a bunch of whiny sell-outs now. Godsmack (or anyone else for that matter) will NEVER be able to contend with the best band in the world, Tool, but their talents do shine everytime, and with this cd it has been proven, Godsmack are here to stay.:D
