Free Music Notes for FacelessFree Music Review: laying the "GODsmack"ith down! Hit: 5 Stars
after giving a good listen, its really good...it has it's mellow parts (yep, godsmack can be mellow!)...and it has its heavy parts...however, i do have one minor complaint...when godsmack is in the studio...they usually produce 4 min - 12 track songs...and that is all. since their time limit is usually consist of 40/45ish mins...they should wait until they have enough of 50/70ish mins... they could've put awake and faceless on the same cd! it is possible! besides that very little rant, i love the cd. godsmack is getting pretty good these last few yrs. it took me a while to get into them, they have that strong feel that metallica "had", with the blend of freshness! one aspect that i admire the most out of godsmack isn't the heaviness (it seems that faceless sounds just about the same as awake and awake sounds the same to the self title album)...however sully (the voice of the band) has a way of blending heavy and mellow together. notice with "i stand alone", how one portion of the song is deep vocals and then the other portion is soft vocals. draiman (disturbed) and hetfield (metallica) has that same talent to blend mellow-ness with heavy-ness. check out the last two songs off faceless...as mellow as voodoo and sprial.
Free Music Review: Faceless: The antidote to Awake's poison. Hit: 5 Stars
Now, I'm not saying that Awake was all bad, but in comparison to Godsmack's self-titled first efforts, something had to be done about the lacking job on the sophomore attempt. With Faceless, just the news of Shannon Larkin joining the ranks as the drummer was enough to know that this wasn't going to be your ordinary Godsmack album. Larkin's known for his hard-hitting, insane beats with bands like Amen, which is good for those who enjoy the harder side of things when it comes to music. The first official peek at Faceless, the single "Straight Out Of Line" was even more proof of Godsmack's resurgance onto the metal scene. Incredible guitar riffs, Larkin's well-performed antics on the set, and Sully's ever-so-present vocal ride right through the first track and continue on until the ending tracks. "The Awakening"/"Serenity", the final two tracks, show Godsmack's diversity in music, giving an eerie acoustic flow which was present with "Voodoo" on their first album. All in all, Faceless matches the power that Godsmack's self-titled was able to accomplish back in '98. The 'Smack is back with more to offer than ever before. A must-have album for any metal fan.
Free Music Review: Incredible!! Hit: 5 Stars
What a cd!! Godsmack displays the most hard rock stuff, they can clearly define the essence of hard rock. They changed quite a bit on this cd, their songs sound much more melodic and meaningful. One minor drawback is that all the songs sound similar to Awake, except for a few exceptions.Starts off with the single "Straight Out Of Line", it's a really hard and commanding song, then it follows up with the hard guitars of "Faceless", which is one of the best on the album. "Changes" has a less heavy tune and more melodic verse and chorus. One good example of melodic hard rock is "Re-Align", the solo in this song is where Godsmack displays the essence of hard rock(download from kazaa and try). "Releasing The Demons" has a more unique tune towards the whole album, very good use of the wah pedal in the verses. A really mysterious melody in the verses and a really angry chorus. The song sounded more like a theme song for a scary movie. "Serenity", the acoustic track at the end of the cd is very mellow, very good to chill to and sing to. All in all, this album did not fail to impress me, for all you hard rock fans i recommend picking this up.
Free Music Review: Seductive and hypnotic Hit: 5 Stars
First off, the energy on this album is equal to that of lightning! The band continues to unleash raw power through powerful, hypnotic beats and butt kickin' , screaming guitars! Most of all, Sully's vocals are above and beyond any previous album! For the ladies...just one listen to "make me believe", and "serenity", you'll FEEL what I mean!! For those who haven't heard the whole album, I strongly suggest listening all the way through, each song is unique and with deep felt emotions that pump your adrenaline to an all time high! This is NOT one of those albums with only 1 or 2 good songs! This album rocks not only your world, but the neihbors' too! Mine are hooked now! Yes, I am a true die hard Godsmack fan, more since the impressive new release, "Faceless"!! It leaves me with a hunger for more, and respect for the talent these men posses. If you have never heard anything by Godsmack, you are missing out! I feel that I can personally relate to every song! Especially the power house "I f*&%#ing hate you"! If you can't relate to this one, you must be a hermit!!! A great way to release anger on the drive home, if ya know what I mean! Godsmack is HOT, Sully is on fire!!!! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!
Free Music Review: Godsmack is carrying the torch Hit: 5 Stars
I've been listening to hard rock since "Back in Black" came out, and hundreds of hard rock & metal albums have since made it into my brain. It's interesting to read some of the negative reviews here, obviously from Alice in Chains fans, who seem to resent Godsmack's success. Why? I don't know. I thought that AIC was the best band in the 90s and I am grateful that Godsmack has picked up some of their sound. They're kind of a mix between AIC and Metallica -- the pre-Black Metallica that focused more on being a band than artists. I say screw trying to come up with some unique, distinctive sound every album. I liked AIC & Metallica and I always thought that AC/DC's brilliance was in finding a good sound and sticking with it. All I know now is that Godsmack is definitely the best thing to hit hard rock in over a decade, and this is a genre I had almost given up on. If you like hard rock, then you are a fool if you do not at least give Godsmack a shot. I think their self-titled 1st album is still the best overall, but Awake and Faceless are both heavier. Faceless is an excellent hard rock album, and in my opinion is superior to Awake. As always, your mileage may vary.
