Free Music Notes for GodsmackFree Music Review: Well I got Smacked Hit: 5 Stars
This album was made with a budget of $2,500. Every song here is good. If you don't think so it may grow on you, unless your one of those Alice in Chains fans who still don't take in the fact that they are dead and who won't accept the fact that Godsmack are actually very talented. Lots of people complain that all of the songs have Sully saying go away, get up get out, better F***in' go away, keep away, etc. This doesn't bug me at all. Take these and put them with the rest of the lyrics and it isn't that noticeable. If you just got out of a bad relationship, then this album is for you. That was what happened to Sully when he wrote most of these songs. In the sleeve, it says Sully Plays Vocals and Stuff. Meaning he sings and plays guitar and drums on some songs. (As evident on the Smack This DVD) For those that enjoy drums (of any Kind) then Voodoo is for you as it was the song that convinced me to buy the album. Tommy is also a very excellent drummer. Its too bad he left Godsmack after Awake and joined Lo Pro. The only remotely weak song is Situation. It takes a while to pick up. The song Immune has audio clips from a movie called No Escape, which was really bad but it fits the song rather well. Moon Baby begins with a weird audio clip from something called Mysterious Forces Beyond. And to any one who thinks that I'm one of those poseurs that listens to Godsmack because they are played all over the radio, I'm not. I don't even listen to the radio. So you can take this review as from a person who appreciates good music. BUY TODAY. Hope this Helped.
Free Music Review: Thus begins the legacy of the greatest band ever.... Hit: 5 Stars
With this debut, the compelling legacy of the greatest band ever to grace this feeble planet, Godsmack, begins. Godsmack was formed by frontman Sully Erna (a practicing wiccan, which i am no means against) and bassist Robbie Merril. This excellent band was completed with the presence of axeman Tony Rambola and drummer Tommy Stewart (and after their second release, awake, was replaced by drummer Shannon Larkin). This is a killer debut! Everything about it shines, from the ominous voice in the beggining of 'Moon Baby' too the final riff and precussion of the haunting 'Voodoo' (one of the singles off the album, along with Whatever, Keep Away, Bad Religion and Get Up, Get Out). When one hears this album, they may think AIC being molested by Sabbath - but in truth, Smack' is better than that. Although all the songs rule, the best would have to be Whatever, Time Bomb and Voodoo. Time Bomb begins with a techno like riff, then explodes into fits of rage. Whatever is a ncie song to absolutley crank when your mad at someone or just genrally p!ssed off. With the accompany of sully screaming "BETTER F**KING GO AWAY!" Bad Religion is also a great song, very very catchy. Some overlooked tracks include Immune and Moon Baby- which are also moshers and killers. All in All this is an awesome debut by the best band ever - Godsmack. This is the album that turned me into a loyal Smack fan. Get this album right now, it is worth your money. If you don't own it already - you deserve to be Godsmacked!
Free Music Review: Underrated Debut from an Underrated Band Hit: 5 Stars
I gotta tell ya, i love Godsmack. I saw them live when they were opening for Metallica (Gods among men) and they really blew me away. Before that show i only had a burnt copy of "Awake" now i own every album. This is really a quality metal album. I might state that this may be defined as "Nu-Metal" but i really don't give a rats ass about labels, never have never will. Moving on, this album does what every metal band needs to do on their debut, kick your ass. Each song is gritty, no-holds-barred, and heavy. A lot of people claim Godsmack is a rip-off of Alice In Chains, well...they're not. Layne Staley was known for making his own unique melodies when it came to lyrics, Sully uses some of that, but really throws in his own growls and screams. And even if they do sound a bit like AIC, it could be because they started out as a AIC cover band, just a guess. And how about Tony Rambola, his solos are a breath of fresh air in this "solos are dead" style we're seeing these days. He's a very underrated guitarist and that bothers me. Tommy was a hell of a drummer (their new guy Shannon is too, no worries). But Sully really blows my mind. He plays drums, guitar, bongos, and has one hell of a "lion's roar" voice. This is a great album from Godsmack and I plan on supporting it til i die. I reccommend it to any hard rock fan, but don't take my word for it, just buy it.
Key Tracks - "Moon Baby" "Whatever" "Keep Away" "Bad Religion" "Now or Never" "Voodoo"
Free Music Review: Get Back! Hit: 5 Stars
This album should be titled "Leave me alone already", because almost every song seems to focus on an unwanted presence(go away, keep away, get back, i like you better when you go away). That being said, I love it anyway. Some people say that Godsmack ripped off Alice in Chains. Now, that's just stupid. They took their name and the tribal sun thing from AIC, but I think their music stands on it's own. "Whatever" is very much like AIC, as are a couple of other songs. But so what? They where influenced, just like every other band in history. And do you know what? AIC are underrated, at least one band saw somethig in them worth emulating. But overall, Godsmack is more akin to Metallica than AIC. They are like a newer, more streamlined metallica, and I think Sully has the right vocals to replace Hetfield once he steps down from the rock throne. "Whatever" is AIC for the here and now. "Keep Away" is what new metallica material SHOULD sound like. "Time Bomb" sounds very techno-rock. "Bad Religion" is just freaking cool(Get Back!), some of the later songs are more mellow and full of angst and emotion(good thing). And if the radio didn't wear out Voodoo in your area, it is a sensual tribal sounding song that should be experienced. The lyrics can be silly sometimes, but nothing that will make me take away a star from this review.
Free Music Review: gold Hit: 5 Stars
i bought this cd a while ago, but i just found amazon.com to write a review about it. this is the greatest cd. there sound has a very heavy, but upbeat sound to it. the songs,"whatever", and "keep away" are great songs, but their not even the best ones on the cd. every song is great, and it doesnt get repetitive. sully's voice really adds character to the heavy riffs and amazing drums. now ive learned that this cd has gone gold already. and this happened even though frikin shopko and walmart pulled this cd off the shelves becuz they said it had controversial lyrics. bull crap. there is not one single reference to shooting someone in there. and even if there was, or lyrics like marilyn manson, they dont cause violence. i listen to this music, im not blowing up buildings. its the type of person and how theyve been raised, raised in a way that they dont know right from wrong. society is just looking for an excuse to the violence, so they blame it on music. bunch of crap. sorry, i had to express that. back to the review.. this band is amazing. i just hope, and mabye godsmack will read this, that they dont sell out like korn, and offspring did. i hate to see that happen, stick to the pure stuff. but if you like heavy, rough music, get this cd. thats all.
