Free Music Review: Awesome adrenaline pumping rock
Hit: 5 Stars

Godsmack are an awesome band, but they somehow picked up a reputation of being Alice In Chains wannabes. I do detect an AIC influence, but there is an equal influence from bands like Metallica, Tool, and White Zombie in their sound. However, they have the ability to take their influences and create an aggressive, energetic sound all their own.

Frontman Sully Erna's vocals are often very intense and confrontational, which sets them apart from their influences. Many of the songs seem to express anger toward someone, possibly an ex-girlfriend, with the resolution often being telling them to "go away". They do this in many of their songs, which might annoy some people, but I personally find it to be stress relieving. Tony's innovative guitar work (he actually can play lead, which many popular rock bands nowadays are not capable of doing) and the well oiled rhythm machine compliment the vocals and awesome songwriting perfectly. The best songs on the album (good to crank up when you're in a bad mood) are "Whatever", "Keep Away", "Time Bomb", "Bad Religion", and "Get Up, Get Out". Highly recommended if you are tired of all the trendy rock that permeates the airwaves.

Free Music Review: GREAT CD! GREATER BAND! (and I love Alice In Chains too)
Hit: 5 Stars

If I could give this 6-10 stars, I would! Godsmack are the newest kings of heavy metal. Yet, I have a problem with critics of this band. So what if they named themselves after an Alice In Chains song? Big deal! And who cares if they try to sound like AIC lyrically and musically? It just shows how much Godsmack was influenced by AIC. Don't get wrong, I am the HUUUGEST Alice In Chains fan. CDs like FaceLift, Dirt, and AIC's self-titled 'Grind' album are some of my favs. Definately 5-stars. But to bash Godsmack for sounding like them is, to me, absurd. I don't get a lot of the other accusations. Like "Voodoo" on this disc doesn't sound anything like Nirvana's "Something In The Way"(off Nevermind). And which song on this disc sounds like a big ripoff off a Nine Inch Nails song?[NOTE: I am also big fan of both NIN and Nirvana] Anyway this is a really great album by an even greater band and ever since I got it I can't stop listening to. It should satisfy any true metalhead's taste for great metal. Also, check out Staind. They are another great new metal band that I love. They too sound like Alice In Chains, as well other great bands like KoRn and Metallica.

Free Music Review: Godsmack's Finest Debut!
Hit: 5 Stars

I listened to many Godsmack songs on my local rock station here in Eastern Australia and I over time garnered a liking of this band from Boston. The leader singer Sully Erna has a great voice deep and rich and emotionally diverse and sings these songs with a fast tempo matching the deep riffs and for the slower songs a almost serene melodic voice. To review Godsmack, I felt I should review their album's from the start to their most recent. This self-titled album is a gem for any alt rock fan who lives their rock a little on the heavy side. The track listing starts off with a pure rock song 'Moon Baby' that I couldn't help but tap my feet to whilst listening. Then the second song 'Whatever' which became Godsmack's early on 'hit' produces Sully's best deep growls to eminate through the song. The song 'Bad Religion' was my favourite especially the actual lyrics. I do think the CD would have been that much better if the band left off 'Somewhere In London' the 2 minute song just didn't fit in to the feel and texture of the entire album.
The debut of Godsmack is one of the finest alt rock albums I have heard in quite sometime.

Free Music Review: Yeah, baby, Yeah!
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, so this may not be an, and I quote, "original" piece of work, but it's still really cool. Sully Erna has a great voice, managing to growl somewhat like James Hetfield (like on "Keep Away") and moan like Layne Staley (like on the enigmatic but catchy "Voodoo"). Yeah, this album's good and heavy, but the lyrics could be more far-reaching. But hey, I don't really mind. It's a good "attitude" CD, and I just love to imagine screaming those words to the people I hate when listening to this CD. "Keep Away" is, by far, the best song on here, although "Whatever" and "Moon Baby" are probably the runners-up. My only complaint is that that little media thing at the beginning of "Moon Baby" is quite obviously a rip-off of White Zombie, but oh well, it's still cool. Oh, and there really doesn't need to be an explicit lyrics label, I have CD's with worse language that don't have it. Yeah, nothing bad here, so "do like I told you" and check out this CD. It really rocks.

Free Music Review: fresh stuff
Hit: 5 Stars

WOW! this band is a up and coming young band that has what it takes to get your attention. i have read the reviews, even the bad ones, and agree with the high star reviews. there opening album is fantastic. it has power, energy, crisma, and heart. maybe they are not the most creative in there first endevor, but they can hammer and even you think they sound like a.i.c. then maybe you are right. but a.i.c 's first album never sounded this good. in fact it still doesn't sound this good. and how many other bands have had this much power and this much success in their first c.d.. no one with in the past 15 years. not even did Tool have so much success their first time out. It is true that tool is much more creative, and that there really isn't any comparison, but to be so successful your first time out, is a blessing in disguise. creativity comes later. let me hear metal and let me feel power. i'll wait for creativity, cuz GODSMACK'S not going any where any time soon. thanks for reading. az rocker
