Free Music Review: Old Formula...Put to Damn Good Use

We've heard this before. Heavy Metal riffs meets Hardcore crunch and attitude. However, few bands have been so successful as of late in putting together a entire album of the genre that remains as catchy throughout (someone say Sevendust?). Several reviewers have commented on the lack of originality of the lyrics. Perhaps, but other that Zach or Rollins, how many true lyrical poets have there been in this genre over the last 10 or so years. Bottom line is this: If you want a heavy, crunching, angry, AND catchy album, grab this one. And catch them on the road too. This band can play live, and Sully is a great frontman on stage.Free Music Review: this stuff rocks

Why can't people just like music. Too many people have to disect every little piece of every song, so that they feel better about not liking a certain band. I hate those people, and most of them hate Godsmack. Not because its bad music, but because they pick apart everything associated with the band. If you like hard metal music, then you must have this cd. Sure it may sound like the early 90's alt scene, but who cares? There aren't to many places for rock to go, and I say if it's good it's good. So stop being so jaded about rock, and start rocking out. BTW go see them live, if you haven't you don't know what they are missing.Free Music Review: this kicks ...--!

Godsmack is definitely one of my 5 favorite heavy metal bands, and this album proves why. Hard rocking hits from start to finish and plenty of attitude to go along with it. Another reason why I love it - you can actually understand more than 90% of what they are saying and they're just not screaming a bunch of unrecognizable ... like some other metal bands. Oh yeah, there's some cursing, but they don't need to use the F-word 50 times in each song just to make it sound appealing. I've seen Godsmack in concert too, and believe me, it was awesome. This is a fantastic album - i haven't gotten this excited about a band since first listening to Marilyn Manson or Tool.The songs are great; unlike many other rock groups their whole CD is original and non-repetitive. Another great thing about Godsmack is that the lead singer's raspy, and thoroughly sexy baritone voice puts him a cut above the competition. Bands like Godsmack or Buckcherry only too often are passed over in favor of glossier, more tailored but superficial groups.They gets some radio air time, and are soon forgotten. It is unbelievable to me how Godsmack is compared to Alice in Chains as a copycat. Even if it was one of their influences Godsmack is so much better. Their music is much harder and well executed. Look at the song "Rooster" by AIC, one of their hits. It is quite possibly one of the worst songs I have ever heard. In all their music, the sound is muddy and annoying. Godsmack is unrelenting and powerful. Look at songs like "Voodoo" or "Whatever", they have a distinctive sound that makes Godsmack great. Thank god they sound more like Black Album era Metallica than AIC, and deliver great hard rock music.
