Free Music Notes for IVFree Music Review: Best Godsmack Album Yet Hit: 5 Stars
Godsmack is back and better than ever with their 4th full length studio album "IV". Produced by Sully Erna (lead singer) and mixed by master Andy Johns (Produced Led Zepplin and Rolling Stone albums) IV shows that Godsmack is not the typical rock band you hear on the radio. IV showcases the bands talents with such songs as Hollow (a dark acoustic song) with female back up vocals. Fans of Godsmack's heavy hitting riffs need not be dissapointed. Songs such as "The Enemy" and "Temptation" showcase old school Godsmack while songs like "MAMA" and "No Rest for the Wicked" showcase the bands new bluesy rock edge. I still don't understand why people label Godsmack as an AIC clone band, this new album sounds nothing like AIC (either does their old records). If people do think they sound the same need to have their hearing checked ;). Shinedown is a song on the record which features a very cool harmonica solo (when's the last time a modern rock band did that?) Another hit on the record is "Voodoo Too". Fans of the bands first record hit Voodoo will be surely pleased by this very cool sounding tribal sequel. Overall, its Godsmack best work yet. If your a fan of the band this album is a must have, if you've never heard of them before check this album out. Rock on!
Free Music Review: IV Delivers Hit: 5 Stars
I am a Godsmack fan and have been for a few years now. I will admit though, that I wished they took more chances from album to album. While 2003's Faceless was great, it wasn't too much different than 2000's Awake. Well, Godsmack finally decided to throw a curveball in the mix, and IV is the result. You've probably heard "Speak" on the radio, so that's no mystery. I'm slightly confused as to why so many people seem indifferent towards "Livin' In Sin". It's one of my favorite songs, and Sully really belts it out here. I love the harmonica and bluesy style of "Shine Down". "Hollow" is the first completely acoustic song from Godsmack that I'm aware of. Lisa Guyer sounds fantastic, as do the strings in the background. "Voodoo Too" is a worthy successor to "Voodoo", and I think the chorus is even better. I also think it's heavier than "Voodoo" overall. The more typical Godsmack songs are here too, like "The Enemy" and "Temptation", both of which rock pretty hard. I think the three year wait between Faceless and IV was well worth it and I hope people give this album a chance, because it's solid all the way through. If you've wanted some change from these guys, you should love this.
Free Music Review: Best Godsmack album to date!! Hit: 5 Stars
In my opinion, IV is the best of all Godsmack's albums to date. "Livin in Sin" doesn't rock as hard as "Straight out of Line" did from the band's Faceless album, but it is a solid opener. Harder tracks like "Speak," and my personal favorite "The Enemy" stay true to Godsmack's hard rock/metal past, but the band strays a bit with tracks like "Shine Down" which includes a harmonica intro, and "Hollow" which features female vocalist Lisa Guyer, a friend of Sully's. Both approaches serve their respective songs well. I was really impressed at how well Sully and Lisa harmonize together. The best song I can think of to compare "Hollow" to, is Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore." "No Rest for the Wicked" is a bluesy rocker, and another favorite of mine. "Voodoo Too," is the typical mystical sounding track from Godsmack, and my least favorite song on the album. "Bleeding Me," and "Temptation," are two of the hardest hitters on the album, and will please fans of Godsmack's more metal fare. "Mama" and "One Rainy Day" round out the album well. Overall, the best release from Godsmack. One that should please the old-school fans, and bring some new listeners to the table as well.
Free Music Review: Godsmacks Best Work to Date!! Hit: 5 Stars
Harmonica, Slide Guitar, and an acoustic tune? Comments like this can make a hardcore
Godsmack fan cringe. "Oh no they've gone commercial and sold out". Not true at all!
Yes they have branched out a little bit but they still have that edge to their music. I believe
Godsmack hit a wall with "Faceless". Everything started to sound exactly the same song after
song. With the harmonica and slide guitar you get a hint of "Southern Rock". Hence I say hint.
And the acoustic number is hauntingly reminiscent of Zeppelin. Now when you hear the
comment "A Diverse CD" or "A Broader Effort" you think "Boring and Soft". That's not the
case at all. I feel they've been able to expand themselves musically and still keep themselves
connected to their existing fans. That's not an easy thing pull off for any band and
Godsmack has done an awesome job. This is a great CD beginning to end!
Free Music Review: A good example of a band evolved Hit: 5 Stars
Honestly, I was actually impressed by this album. Livin in sin was not the best opener I have heard from them, but Speak made a great follow up. Also, I think that The Enemy and Temptation are good headbanging tracks as well. It's not the original, but I like Voodoo Too. The song still had a good, progressive beat throughout it. Hollow, was a great acoustic track. It had catchy riffs and shows that the band can step in different directions. I also find Bleeding Me to be a very catchy and emotionally powerful tune. I don't judge bands by how different their sound is from their last albums as long as it's still good music. I think their song writing has improved quite a bit with their last two records. I don't think that IV is quite as good as Faceless, but it's still much better than Awake. Don't get me wrong, Awake was still a good CD, but the songs were not near as progressive, catchy, or good as their last two have been.
