Free Music Notes for Godspell

Free Music Review: Godspell-a lovely play
Hit: 5 Stars

I first heard this play 20 years ago when I was in high school. I loved it then and I still do. Godspell is an ageless recording. People will still be listening to it and enjoying it years from now.

Free Music Review: One of my favorite musicals
Hit: 5 Stars

I love this musical. It is based on the Gospel according to Matthew, and follows Jesus and his "12 disciples" (a cast of men and women) during his last days. Has many bible stories acted out. you really need to watch the movie or the play to appreciate the music.

Free Music Review: Stephen Schwartz da Man
Hit: 5 Stars

Stephen Schwartz has given me a great amount of inspiration. In fact, I got so much inspiration from the original Godspell that I wrote and am directing a modernized version of Godspell. It keeps about half of the original songs, but without Stephen Schwartz, this wouldn't be possible. Thanks Stephen!

Free Music Review: Great music holds up-- great for kids too
Hit: 5 Stars

I loved this growing up and it still appeals. Out children have loved it since babyhood too. Lovely singing and melodies. I think our very favorite is "all Good Gifts" and the version on this (vs the film) by the guy named Lamar is stunning-- I noticed that a few reviewers complained about it, which seems really odd. Whatever the "correct" way to describe his voice-- someone said operatic, someone said baritone-- it also sounds like something you might hear in a church choir. Call it whatever, it works beautifully against the folk rock/theatrical style everyone else is using-- it's gorgeous. It was a great creative decision to use a more formal voice mixed in with the more casual 70s style singing and against the folk rock music. Although "All GOod GIfts" is the only song where he leads, but he adds a lot when he chimes in on the other songs. Several reviewers compared Godspell unfavorably to "Jesus Christ Superstar," which really surprised me--- that album seems so repetitive and sing songy next to this one.And it does appeal to the non religious because the songs are so lovely and heartfelt

Free Music Review: Great Show, Great Music!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am acting in a school production of Godspell, and the CD has been indespensible for learning the music, and in timing what is going on during the songs. I also love the music on it!
