Free Music Notes for Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats DominoFree Music Review: great Hit: 5 Starsthis cd is FANTASTIC and if you buy it you'll do a good action (profits go to Tipitina's fundation that helps reconstructing destroyed house in New Orleans) !
Free Music Review: Listen to the real FAT man Hit: 1 Stars This is one of the worst group of cover songs (with the exception of a few - and I mean a few) that I've ever heard. Immediately upon listening to these selections I popped in the real Fat Man and remembered how great he was. 90% of these songs lacked the soulful sound of Fats and could not come close to imitating him. As a tribute I do believe he deserved it, but as far as us listeners go, it was not good. If you bought it and the money went to the good cause it says it's going to, then at least that's something.
I advise any young listeners who like this collection of artists, and are not familiar with Fats Domino, to not use this collection as any type of testimony to his greatness. LISTEN TO THE REAL FAT MAN!
Free Music Review: Great collection of Domino tunes by first-rate artists Hit: 5 StarsThis is a fabulous 2 CD set with performances by a host of top-quality artists. Some you've heard, but others might surprise you. And it benefits the Tipitina's Foundation, which is helping musicians in New Orleans. Give it a try - you will not be disappointed!
Free Music Review: Tribute to Fats is proof of New Orleans' resilience Hit: 5 StarsAlongside Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino has been the most popular ambassador of the incredible musical wealth of New Orleans. His stature is such that he has inspired many world-wide known musicians to perform his classic songs for the sake of restoring life and music in the Crescent City. And there's a lot to really enjoy in this magnificent tribute to Fats. Corinne Bailey Rae's rendition of 'One Night (Of Sin)' is compelling, Lenny Kravitz excels himself in 'Whole Lotta Loving', Randy Newman adds a new dimension to "Blue Monday', Los Lobos really rock their way through 'The Fat Man', and B.B. King's version of 'Goin' Home' is tough and authentic. Furthermore, there's John Lennon with 'Ain't That A Shame', Paul McCartney singing one of his old favorites, 'I Want To Walk You Home' (with Allen Toussaint at the piano), Norah Jones with a cheerful 'My Blue Heaven', and the brooding Dr. John with an impressive performance of 'Don't Leave Me This Way'. This CD is a Work of Love for a great artist and a beautiful city.
Free Music Review: Could be better Hit: 3 StarsThe Fats Domino tribute CD was somewhat disappointing. Many of the artists did a great job of recreating the Fats music, but some were really disappointing. The intrepretation was so wild, you'd never recognize it as a Fats classic.
