Free Music Review: Only an opinion
Hit: 5 Stars

I havent really listened to the album but the band in general is good. It's no use wasting your life trying to decide whether or not the band is punk rock or not its just music. People like different music and it may not be classified as the specific "punk rock" catagory people seem to make it but it falls into my "good music" catagory and thats good enough for me. 10 year old girls listen to them. 27 year old men listen to them. 16 year old guys and girls listen to them. It's just all in what kind of music you like. Good Charlotte has got attitude and a good rhythm. When people are in a sad mood they may want to listen to a song with specific lyrics that relate to themselves, but when somebody is just trying to find good music they'll put on something that can get a person's attention 3 seconds after the song starts playing. There may not be any specific lyrics involved or any certain theme. It may not even make sense but its a song and if its getting my attention then its good. There's alot of people out there that like Good Charlotte. Most of them I know dont debate whether it is punk rock or not, they like it cause its good music. Everybody likes different bands and everybody likes different types of music. There's no use studying good charlotte like a specimen or something. It seems like some people just try to find stuff wrong with them and other bands. Listen to a few songs and if you dont like them then they may not be your taste. I like a variety of music usually more towards a wide range of rock. Just to give you an idea of the music i like are Sugar Ray, Bowling for Soup, The Starting Line, Weezer, Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, Green Day, New Found Glory, Blink 182, and ocasionally maybe a little Sum 41. If you like at least one of these bands then this band is worth giving a try. I havent listened to the whole CD but I fell in love with "Predictable" the first time I heard it on T.V. Then I was kinda pissed when they started playing it on radio cause thats how they ruin songs, by playing them to much. But I consider it one of my favorite songs even today. Ive heard "The Chronicles of Life and Death" too and that song is pretty good to me too. On the last album I LOVE "The Anthem". I think that is probably one of their best songs if not their best. I dont think i've run into anybody who doesnt like that song once they hear it. They've got some other really good songs too. I like the vocals. It's different and you can tell from listening to a song for the first time that it's Good Charlotte. Music has changed over the years and so have people and some people have grown into the new changes but most people still worship the past musicians. 15 years from now you'll look back and think the same way about some of the bands now as you did with the "great" bands back in the 70's and 80's. I may not be a critic but I'm a basic teenager who lives and associates with other teenagers, who give music it's popularity.

Free Music Review: Good Charlotte is BACK!!!!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the BEST job GC has done on any of their CDs. I loved their debut. I loved The Young and the Hopeless. But this, this is AMAZING. They don't sound like pop-punk anymore, they sound like REAL PUNK!!! Here's my review of the whole CD:

1. Once Upon a Time:The Battle for Life and Death
This is the ONLY song I don't like. I reccomend you skip it. It's cool the first 2 or 3 times, but then you get a headache. 2.5/5

2.The Chronicles of Life and Death
This brings back a little bit of their pop-punk style, but it's still good. 4/5

3.Walk Away (Maybe)
This is one of the best songs on the CD. It really gets you thinking about when you should face your fears. 5/5

4. S.O.S.
This is a good song. This is more like AFI. I like it. 4.5/5

5. I Just Wanna Live
FINALLY!!!! They released a 2nd single! This is a fun song. It gets you in a good mood, AND you can dance to it. 5/5

6.Ghost of You
This is the BEST song on the ENTIRE cd. I'm not going to go on and on, b/c that will take too long. 10/5

7.Predictable
AH. The very first hit off Chronicles, and will not be the last, I assure you. Very good guitar, nice drums, and I love it when Joel is thinking out loud like that.... 7/5

8.Secrets
This is a good song. It's very true. You should stand up to the pain, and keep on going. 5/5 Speaking of truth.....

9.The Truth
This is a very emotional song. It's very powerful and compelling. The quiet piano sets a quiet but loud demeanor for this piece. 5/5

10.The World is Black
This song is dark, yes, but it brings alot of hope. These are the best lyrics they have done on this album. 5/5

11.Mountain
When I hear this song, I think of how I feel about my friend Nathan. It really gets me, b/c this song is EXACTLY how I feel about him. 6/5

12.We Believe
This has PUNK lyrics, because it talks about politics, which is the heart and soul of all punk rockers' lyrics. It sends a message that if the world had more love, maybe we wouldn't be so bad off. 5/5

13.It Wasn't Enough
This song is about how you really trusted and cared for someone and you would do anything for them, and one day they just push you away. It's sort of in frustration, and no matter how much you did for them, hence the title, it wasn't enough. 4/5

14. In this World (Murder)
It really makes you think about all the innocent lives that are killed and how no one values life over money. 5/5

Hit: 5 Stars

When I had my first listen to all of the songs i was thinking......uhh....wuts up with the songs? i had to play the cd a couple more times to let it grow on me and when it did they sounded awesome. in a couple of songs i heard the old gc which was apretty cool. the intro was actually funny...i was thinking of hogwarts and the members of good charlotte flying around on brooms while that was playing. the first couple of songs in the beginning arent as good as the other ones. well anyways here is an individual song thingymajig:

The chronicles of life and death: 7/10....good song but it just wasnt up to par.

walk away(maybe)- 6/10 this is my least favourite song becuz it just seemed bleh...but its just an OKAY song

S.O.S- 9/10- very good! nothing else to say

I just wanna live- 10/10 lol i love this song the title seems so depressing but the lyrics are pretty funny it was more pop and than but hey it was awesome

Ghost of you- 9/10 benji does alot of backup here and i actually prefer his voice than joels and i wish he sang more. it just seems more edgier than joel's.

Predictable- 9/10 i wudnt have picked this as ther first single but thers reasons why they would. i wudve picked In this world (murder) and the world is black but even tho those titles sound so depressing, the songs reli aren't. gotta work on them titles boys.

Secrets- 8/10 its average

the truth-10/10 gotta love it

the world is black- 10/10 another favorite of mine! i like the rhythm :D

mountain- 8/10 this was the only song i had from ther new cd b4 it came out and i kept listening to it for hours so i guess im just tired of it but its still good.

we believe- 10/10 goodah! they didnt even have to sqeeze ther crotch to get ther voices dat high....or did they?

it wasnt enough- 7.5/10 meh.....

in this world (murder)-11/10 I LOVE THIS SONG AND THEY WHISPER SING WHICH SOUNDS SO COOL....lol sorry so anyways....awesome song!

meet my maker(death)- 9/10 much better than the life bonus track.

falling away(life)- 7/10 it got a bit repetitive for me and it got annoying.

buy this cd cuz ur money is worth it! they make have changed from ther past cd's but ther still awesome.
DONT HATE APPRECIATE!

Don't listen to the negative reviews. Most of these are by people who are too obsessed with trendy emo bands and the extremely overrated, overhyped new Green Day crap that they wont give anything else a chance.

All the people saying "their heading in the wrong direction", or "the songs aren't fast enough" don't realize what GC were trying to do. They WANTED to go in a different direction. They could've acted like all the other crap most people listen to like Simple Plan, Linkin Park or 3 Doors Down and just rehash the same crap over and over. But nope, after coming off an album that sold over 5 million worldwide, they packed their bags and moved into a new direction. And it suits them well. Honestly, they could have EASILY put out another "The Young & The Hopeless". Would it have sold more? Definetly. Would they be happy with it, artistically? Obviously not, so they decided to make an album THEY wanted. Not an album that Clear Channel or their record company wanted (start taking notes, Simple Plan).

Every song on this album has something memorable about it. The guitarists use fx and riffs to make every song sound atmospheric and go along with the lyrics, which gives everything a great vibe. The synthesizers and pianos are a great addition to the bands sound, again- it just helps them broaden their sound and reach for a particular vibe.

There seems to be a track for anybody on this album.
Heavier rock songs: "Walk Away", "S.O.S." and "In This World"
Classic GC pop/punk: "The Chronicles Of Life & Death", "Secrets", and "Falling Away"
Catchy pop-rock: "Predictable", "Mountain", "It Wasn't Enough"
Ballads: "The Truth", "We Believe", "Wounded" (bonus track)
Experimental/piano/synth pop-rock: "Ghost Of You", "The World Is Black"
And just for fun, they threw in a falsetto fueled, dance/pop-rock song, "I Just Wanna Live".

In my opinion, this is a very colorful, varied album with something for everybody. I think alot of people may get this album and expect every track to sound like "The Anthem". This is definetly not the case. If you come in open-minded and ready for something different, you'll probably like it. This is way better than American Idiot or Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (I own both).

Free Music Review: The Best of Good Charlotte
Hit: 5 Stars

(So Far that is!)
I have very high standards for Good Charlotte, and I am expecting only better and better music from them in the next 5-10 years.
Their albums have been consistantly improving, their Junior (and most recent) album only proves this.
"I Just Want to Live" is probably the most well-known and catchy song on the album, however I would have to say my favorites are "Secrets", "Mountain" and "Falling Away".
It's pretty obvious that co-song-writer Joel Madden had a pretty tough break-up and some other...errr...tough problems to tackle.

However, instead of co-writing an album with a sole essence of pain and hostility (and who would blame him?) he offers hope for the future and a love for life.

The Madden Brothers are amazing in their ability to take bad experiences from the past (example: the abandonment of their father at the young age of 15- on Christmas Eve no less!)
and utilize the feelings and thoughts of life, through their music, into something constructive and beautiful.
And the outcome: The Chronicles of Life and Death.

It is like a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel woven into a collection of songs.

A RESPONSE to Steven's Review:

The critics bash good charlotte all the time. all the "punks" out there call it "wannabe" rubbish.
GC goes against the grain and makes music THEY like, and music the devoted fans like, definitely not what MTV apparantly "wants."
Have you even listened to this album, because if you had, you would realize it is anything but "superficial". Making tons of money was not the motive. (that is just an added benefit)
Listen to the whole CD, from start to finish. Then write another review.

It is one thing to call a band's music "bad" but its another thing (libel) to personally bash the artists and suggest they do it only for the money and themselves.
The four artists in this band poured their heart and soul into creating this record: for their fans. Joel and Benji Madden have been nothing but brutally honest in sharing their own personal lives and experiences through their music. Can you really ask for anything more? So give them some credit, please.
