Free Music Notes for The Chronicles of Life & Death (Life Art Version)Free Music Review: Benji+Joel=Big Talents-by Joel Hit: 5 Stars
***BEFORE(ABOUT OLDER ALBUMS)***
Good Charlotte started in 1995,and they made their debut album in 2000.It was a-self title album-mix of rap, punk and pop.Their second album,''The Young And The Hopeless'',in 2002,was even more hardcore, and punk. And now...
***NOW(ABOUT THIS ALBUM)
They did the big step,''The Chronicles Of Life And Death''.The difference is big. They changed their style. Not only the clothes!
These are the differences;
1)Lyrics
Before, the topics were parties, money, girls, fun,Cashdogg, and many other. Now,they write about world's real problems. The war,the misery...They are serious about these subjects.Their first introduction to this serious side was in 2002,the song
''Hold On''.And of course, now it seems like they don't care about their lives only!!!Anyway, the lyrics here are excellent, written by a smart way, that is very exciting.
2)Vocals
Joel tried even more for these songs. Now,he shows us a new side of his voice. You can feel his talent and his passion for music, when you hear these songs:''The Truth'',''We Believe'',
''The Chronicles Of Life And Death'',''It Wasn't Enough''and
''In This World(Murder)",''Ghost Of You'',etc.
3)Music
They added even more new instruments, like violins, synthesizer, piano, and more. The rythm often changes from slow to fast, and again the same.Imagine,Joel and Benj write their (great)songs by themselves.Wow!
4)Artwork
It's better to buy thid album, not to copy it,because you will be
able to wonder the wonderful artwork. All the funny, smart and nice illustrations are by Billy.
5)Variety
Every song is different, and special.Ballads, pop soon-to-be hits, hardcore, melodic, strange, every song is different...
***GC STYLE***
I think they're trying to play it rock and dark,if you see them
you'll understand. But their just pop-punk.And they are great!
They're true,too.
WE LOVE GC!!!
GC ROCKS MY SOCKS!
Bottom Line1:
I hope they soon come here in Greece.
Bottom Line2:
There's a hidden track here.
Free Music Review: Good Charlotte's Mature Side Hit: 5 Stars
While I liked the playful antics of "The Young And The Hopeless" better than this dark point of view, I found this album to be very enjoyable. It was very mature and very different.
Once Upon A Time- 1/5- Well, it's an introduction. What can I say??? I don't even get the point of introductions...no one listens to them. But hey that's just my opinion.
Chronicles of Life And Death- 5/5- This reminds me of The Anthem and Boys and Girls. It's very much "Young and the Hopeless". It's a great song, with catchy lyrics that have a lot of truth in them.
Walk Away- 4.5/5- This is a good song. It's one of my favorites on the album. It has very thought- provoking lyrics. I like the piano in the bridge, and Joel's voice is very good.
S.O.S- 5/5- This is my favorite song on the album. It's fun to air guitar to towards the end. It's a very addictive song.
I Just Wanna Live- 5/5- An odd GC choice...but very good nonetheless! Smart and funny.
Ghost Of You- 3/5- I've come to like this song a lot. The words are absolutely beautiful. They're very poetic. The tune is sort of creepy, but it grows on you.
Predictable- 4/5- This song is OK, but I don't think it's a great single. If it wasn't a single, it would probably be overlooked by a lot of people.
Secrets- 3/5- Ehh, it's ok. The guitar is nice, but the song is average overall.
The Truth- 2/5- A bit too slow for my interest. The vocals are nice though.
World Is Black- 4.5/5- Thought provoking and good. A bit short, however.
Mountain- 5/5- Sweet words and fun tune. One of my favorites. I love the end.
We Believe- 5/5- Tearjerking, definitely. Very glad it's a single.
It Wasn't Enough- 4/5- Pretty good.
In This World- 5/5- Their darkest side yet!
Falling Away- 4/5- Good ole' GC. Really long, though.
So there you have it. I also recommend Yellowcard, Simple Plan, No Doubt, Evanescence, Maroon5, Hoobastank, Switchfoot, Three Days Grace, Three Doors Down, New Found Glory, The All American Rejects, Seether, and many more;)
Free Music Review: This old fart thinks they rock! Hit: 5 Stars
This was my first Good Charlotte album and I think they are really talented! Yes, yes, I know, I have read many times on several web sites that GC fans are disappointed that the band didn't put out an album so similar to their previous ones; but they have the right to experiment and try to spread their wings, too.
I don't know; maybe this is better suited for the older guys like myself (I'm in my forties). I know; punk is great and I want to hear Good Charlotte do some of that on their other CDs after being turned onto the band with this CD. Yet give the band a chance to try other types of songs and if they really fall down they'll go back to what they were doing before--there's hope, long time Good Charlotte fans!
The CD opens with an eerie sounding instrumental track and then goes into "The Chronicles Of Life And Death," a very good song about the life cycle we all experience. The songs on the CD have a strong, self-confident feeling to them that isn't cocky, either. The group has a great song about angst in "In This World (Murder)." The ending of the CD actually depends on which version you buy--there are two versions, the "Life Art" version and the "Death Art" version. Be sure to wait a few minutes for the last song on the CD; it doesn't come right away (at least not on the "Life Art" version).
The liner notes include the lyrics--a definite plus! There are drawings by Billy Martin that actually aren't so bad.
If you're a fan who just HAS to have Good Charlotte doing the type of music they have been doing, then you do need to skip this CD. However, if you want to see them try their hand at other types of music, at least for a while, then try this CD! I also recommend it highly for older rock fans--even as old as I am! GRIN
Will this be a call to the band to go back to their original style? Will they keep on trying new things? Whatever, they are obviously really talented and I want them to ROCK ON!
Free Music Review: Better Everything! Hit: 5 Stars
For everyone whos says GC are posers, here is a quote by Billy, the guitarist "I'm getting crazy, when I read music magazines. We're making rock music, but they write that we're a pop punk band! We never listened to Pop and and I hate punk. Because every writes it, the people think it's true and therefor they voted our record in to the top 10 of the best punk records! It's annoying!" I am sick of everyone picking on GC for being posers. Their music is good, get over it. Here is what i Think of the
It is alot different than the young and the hopeless or their self-titled album. It is more mature and has better instrumentals, i think part of the reason is their new drummer. Joels voice sounds better and the lyrics are less about being rebelious after high school.

Free Music Review: THIS IS 5 Stars
OK, people. Get a grip. I've got a big problem with you people who are constantly labeling them, such as:
"They are preppy boys with a couple song ideas and a guitar"
"They are demented freaks"
"They sound like they are smoking something"
That is NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!! Good Charlotte is AMAZING. I can relate to all of their songs. Everyone at my school is always saying "Oh, I am so much better than they are. I'm not a poser like that."
Ok. YOU try having an alchaholic father who walked out on you and your mother on Christmas Eve and never, ever came back. YOU try supporting your mother by having to go with 3 jobs at a time. YOU try having all these kids prank calling you posing as big executives from major record labels almost every night.YOU try getting tormented by kids all your school life. YOU try to live a normal life when your mother is stuck in the hospital with lupus. Oh, and do all of this while you have to not only support your mom, but 2 other siblings. This is the reason why they never went to college. YOU try writing at least 30 songs, and that's just for one CD. Oh, I almost forgot, when YOU become famous, try remembering the people who cared for you and not think "ME, ME, ME!!!!!!!!" . The first thing Joel and Benji did when they hit it big with GC was buy their mom a house. And they are STILL completely down-to-earth guys. They've got an amazing talent for writing songs, playing instruments, and singing(benji and joel's). Billy is also an AWESOME drawer. He did the artwork in the cd flippy book!!!!!!!! And if you don't like GC, don't think about buying anything else out there, because no one is better than good charlotte, and i don't care if no one likes them at all. They are real talent, and that's what counts to be valued in the music industry.
