Free Music Notes for The Chronicles of Life & Death (Life Art Version)Free Music Review: GC's Back with #3 Hit: 5 Stars
"The Chronicles of Life and Death", the third album from Good Charlotte, is a showcase of how they have matured both in their musical and their songwriting abilities.
Whichever version you purchase, you will get 14 great tracks of music, plus a different bonus track on each ("Meet My Maker" on the "Death" version; "Falling Away" on the "Life" version). "Chronicles" is very different and distinct from their two previous releases, their 2000 self-titled debut and "The Young and the Hopeless" from 2002. But from beginning to end, "Chronicles" unmistakably 100% Good Charlotte. Their new release features string arrangements ("Once Upon A Time: The Battle of Life and Death," the opening track that sounds if it could have come straight from the soundtrack of a spooky movie; "Predictable;" etc. ), piano ("The Truth"), and an upright bass, examples of how they have grown in their musical talents.
"I Just Wanna Live," my favorite track on "Chronicles," is an upbeat, autobiographic tale of their quick rise success ("It's getting hectic everywhere that I go/They won't leave me alone/There's things they all wanna know/I'm paranoid about the people I meet/Why are they talking to me?/And why can't anyone see/I just wanna live"). With its bouncy beat and catchy rhythm, this is a definite hit and would do well released as a single. Another one of my favorites is "Ghost of You". It has an excellent melody that is a perfect compliment to its lyrics.
I was disappointed, however, that the artwork by Billy Martin within both albums was in black and white. I saw one of the drawings in Alternative Press magazine (September 2004) in color and was hoping that they would be in color in the liner notes included.
Free Music Review: Great CD Hit: 5 Stars
Even though I am a huge GC fan, I'm gonna try not to be biased. I thought this was a great CD. It is a lot darker then their other 2 CDs but the message is still hope. It is much more mature and they explore all different styles of music. My dad likes and so does my little sister, so it is very diverse. There is a 80's pop sounding song, "The World is Black"; a hip-hop sounding song, "I Just wanna Live": An almost metal sounding song, "Murder", and even a song with just vocals and piano, "The Truth". The band has improved musicaly so much over the past two years. They have more complex guitar and bass parts, better and deeper lyrics, and dramatically improved vocals. This probably dosen't mean that much to you if you haven't heard the last two albums, but I don't know how else to describe it. They still have the strong harmonies, and catchy melodies, but with a new edge. There are some really cool bass parts, and some nice guitar solos. The subject range from, petty pop stars, to lost love, to the World today. There is nothing strongly political about it, it is all pretty general. There is nothing that I took as racist or sexist in any way. I can relate to almost all he lyrics in some way or another. This is the kind of CD that really makes you think. some of the songs could mean sevral different things, and could be taken many different ways. And unlike the first two albums, there isn't a mention about their dad. Contrary to popular beleif, "Predictalbe" is not about their father, it is about "going in to a relationship, knowing that you're going to get hurt, but doing it anyway" and that is a quote from Joel Madden, the lead singer of GC. This is a great CD. I would recomen it to anyone.

Free Music Review: On helovan album! Hit: 5 Stars
This album really blew me away the day I got it from the library. I had been afraid of the band lessening after hearing the song "Predictable" on TV (although I love this song now), but I was really surprised by what I got!
I don't think that I was the only person who put in this CD, heard what was coming out of it and began to confusedly scratch their head; "This can't possibly be Good Charlotte!" Honest to goodness, I checked the CD to see if I had put in something else.
But no, this weird (yet enthralling/intriguing) prolouge of sorts to the album was definitely GC- and this was made all the more (astonishingly) clear as the second track began to play.
I could tell from this first song that the band had gotten tighter- a little less whiny, a lot more solid, a great tune with a grounded, rockin' feel. From the "Chronicles of Life and Death", to the poppier, almost 80s-ish "Ghost of You" (not to mention the very dancy hit "I Just Wanna Live", with clever lyrics and an amazing beat); to the meaningful/emotional "The Truth" and "We Believe", to the dramatic "In This World (Murder)", this band is almost unrecognizable- a very differernt feel, and for me it's welcome.
But please don't get me wrong here- I LOVE "The Young and the Hopeless". There are still wonderful elements to that album as much as this newer one- however, you can kind of teel that it is a lot more professional sounding (which is potentially the main-ish reason for so many fans' outrage over this release). I give it five stars, freely.
Free Music Review: Like the music, don't like the reviews Hit: 5 Stars
I think Good Charlotte has done their best work into this cd. This cd is clearly their most mature artwork so far. On this cd it includes 15 songs (one hidden track!), lyrics (yay!), and interesting pictures drawn by Billy Martin. There is also the interesting choice of either the life version or death version. The only difference is the last song, each unique and different. If you are a number one fan of Good Charlotte, you'll probably love this cd! It's a bit different from the first two, but definitely worth buying. It's way more mature than the other two, and you won't believe your ears! Buy this cd, you'll love it!
I think that everyone can have their own opinion on this cd, but I don't think that people should be putting the group down because they don't like what they hear. I don't appreciate people making comments saying stuff like "this group is just trying to fit in and are really sad and hopeless" or "this group sucks and should be illegal to produce this kind of music". Sure, you don't have to like Good Charlotte, but you don't need to put them down or dislike them for what they do. I think Good Charlotte works hard at their career and does an outstanding job of it. It really gets to me when people insult someone just because they don't like them, and I am sorry that people are that way. Please don't insult Good Charlotte or anyone else, they work hard for what they have and you should appreciate what they are doing for you.
