Free Music Review: Couldn't be much better!
Hit: 5 Stars

Good Charlotte is a band from Waldorf, Maryland. The Young and the Hopeless is their second album after their self-titled debut album in 2000. All I can say is that their second cd blew me away. If you've ever heard their first album you would see how much they've improved and accomplished over two years of hard work. There is no song that I dislike on this album. All the songs on this album are written by Benji and Joel, who are the two twins of the band. The songs they wrote aren't all about the same thing (which was sometimes a problem on their first album) and they talk about real good issues such as: not being like everyone else, how materialistic the world is, death and even suicide. They also write again about their father who left them when they were 16. I find that this is a cd that I can listen to at anytime and it never gets old. It also can be inspirational at times too. When I was feeling down, I just listened to it and it usually made me feel better. The music on this cd is brilliant. Many people complain because they say they're not real punk but in the end it doesn't matter what you say they are. It's all about the music. So don't just judge Good Charlotte by their image, take a listen to them for yourself. It's worth it.

Tracks:

1) A New Beginning: It's the intro of the album. One of the best intros I've ever heard. No lyrics, just music. But it's still really good. The guitar at the end is very cool. 9/10
2) The Anthem: A great song. Talks about not going with the crowd and being yourself. Very fun to listen to. Just makes you want to jump around and sing along. 10/10
3) Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous: Their first single off this cd. Talks about celebrities' lives and how they're "always complaining". Shows how much celebrities have and still they're not always satisfied. 10/10
4) Wondering: A very nice song. They say it's their last love song. It's about always being there for someone you love. 9/10
5) The Story of my Old Man: A song written about the twins' father. Not as good as "Complicated" from their first album but still good. Very catchy too. 8.5/10
6) Girls and Boys: A song about how people are "losing their souls in a material world". Although what they say is not always true, you must realize that sometimes people are like that. Very catchy song. 9/10
7) My Bloody Valentine: A song about killing someone to have the one you love. Not necessarily the best message but the song itself is great. It's got a creepy sound to it. It was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's "Telltale Heart". Cool song. 9.5/10
8) Hold On: A song dealing with suicide. It's telling you to "hold on if you fell like letting go". I found this song very inspirational before. The words are very meaningful and I'm sure a lot of people can relate to what they say. If you're ever feeling sad or depressed, take a listen to this song. It's absolutely great. The chorus is very powerful. It blew me away. Amazing. My favorite on this cd. 10/10
9) Riot Girl: Talks about the kind of girl they like. Not my favorite but still not a bad song. I can still sing along to it and have fun. 7.5/10
10) Say anything: This song is one of their slow songs. It's actually a very nice song. It has great vocals. A song about the pain of breaking up. 9.5/10
11) The Day That I Die: Benji sings most of this song and he does a very good job too. A song about living through the last day you're alive and doing the things you enjoy. Although you would expect to be a sad topic, they make it seem like it would be "the happiest day" of their life. It's sad but happy at the same time. 9/10
12) The Young and the Hopeless: The song with the same title as the cd. It's a great song and the guitar playing is great. A song just telling us about who they really are. 10/10
13) Emotionless: Another song about their dad except this time it's written to him. Even though it's called "Emotionless" it's really a very emotional song. The singing, the lyrics and everything about it is great. The chorus is really nice too. Great song! 10/10
14) Movin' On: A song that tells us about that even after hard times, we always got to keep moving in our lives. Even if life's tough, you got to keep living. A good song to end this wonderful cd. 8.5/10

My favorite songs in order: Hold On, Emotionless, The Anthem, The Young and the Hopeless, Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous

Free Music Review: Keep Representin' GC!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is really good and at some points disturbing. I may say some things that have already been said, and that's because I agree. Like someone said that GC dresses punk, but they're music isn't punki. News flash, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE!!! And for all those punk lovers who hate this cd, don't listen to it if you hate it so much! Yes it is kind of pop-punk more then punk, but if you do like punk and you hate the "pop-punk garbage" and you are stuck with this cd, listen to A New Beginning and The Young and the Hopeless, they're the punkies songs here.

A New Beginning - Intro, kinda creeps me out, so I don't listen to it much, B

The Anthem - A song about originality. I like it a lot, but its overplayed so it gets annoying at times, A-

Lifestyles - Good song, about how celebs piss and moan (to quote their song). The only problem is that its WAY too overplayed, so now its really annoying, B+

Wondering - I love this so much. Its not as slow and dark as everyone says, its actually really like, not pop but not punk. I personally like it, A

Story of my Old Man - GOOD SONG!! Its on the poppier side of GC. The part, "Monday he woke up and hated life
Drank until Wednesday and left his wife
Thursday through Saturday he lost everything
Woke up on Sunday, miserable again". It always is stuck in my head, but its good, A

Girls and Boys - I despised this song the first time I heard it. Then it grew and grew on me. Then they started playing it twice the speed (yes, they up the tempo on some stations) on the radio every two hours. That got annoying, A-

My Bloody Valentine - The first time I heard it, it kinda creeped me out and I was mumbling to myself, "this is rather disturbing...." but it turns out its one of my fav. songs on the cd now, A

Hold On - This song is so deep, I love it so much and it really relates to teens when they get to that point in their life that they just want to be dead. The only part that freaks me out in this song (and by that I mean I need to take of my headphones cause it scares me) is when he says, "What are you looking for?
What are you waiting for?". How Benji (or Joel, whatever) says it just...eeh. But when he says "But we all bleed the same way as you do", its just so...I can't describe. Its about equality. The whole chorus -- no the whole song is just so...there. Its right where they need to be. Like a message - Don't think nobody cares, because they do, and you will get through this. A

Riot Girl - One of my favorites. Also on the poppier side. I love how it starts out, like those first 4 or 5 notes. I love these parts
"She hates you Britney, so you better run for cover"

"A hood rat who needs an attitude adjustment"

"Emergency, call 911
She's pissed off at everyone"

Very good songs. Humorous, A

Say Anything - A good song, but its really slow. Kind of Dull and repetitive, very good, though, B+

Day that I Die - Not a favorite of mine, I guess you have to be in the mood to listen to it. Its still a pretty good song. Maybe I'm crazy, but I sensed a bit of country in this song. Eew. That aside, its still a good solid B.

The young and the hopeless - another good song. I always skipped over this song. I don't know why. the day that I listened to it I found I could really relate to what benji and/or joel was singing about.

"Cause Im young and im hopeless
Im lost and I know this
Im going nowhere fast thats what they say..."

"Its me against this world and I dont care"

...A

Emotionless - VERY SLOW and VERY DEEP. It goes beyond "the story of my old man" Way beyond.
"it's been a long hard road without you by my side
why weren't you there all the nights that we cried"

"Now, I'm writing just to let you know that I'm still alive"

"I remember the days, you were a hero in my eyes"

"those scars run deep inside this tattooed body
there's things I'll take, to my grave
but I'm okay"

Definately a deep, in the mood song. It makes me think, A

Moving On - Good song. I don't really understand it sometimes.
"Like all my friends, they just keep dying" I don't get this. Other than that, I like it. Its kind of nice to hear if you just heard Emotionless. A-

Overall, This CD Gets A BIG FAT A! W00T W00T for GC!!! Keep Representin'!

Free Music Review: Good Charlotte
Hit: 5 Stars

After reading about fifty reviews on here, I have to say I was disgusted. I got this cd right when it came out expecting it to be the same old Good Charlotte, and I love this cd just as much as their first one. But then I read reviews of people saying "I love this cd! I got it after hearing Lifestyles on the radio and here are my favorites: Lifestyles, The Anthem, Riot Girl, and Girls and Boys! But I hated My Bloody Valentine and Hold On, and what's the point of Emotionless anyway?" These people obviously don't appreciate GC for who they are. They like them because they're the "in" thing right now and it makes them cool...uh..no! Those of us who have always loved GC and still love them for their music are the real GC fans here. Anyway nuff said bout that. Here's my ratings of the songs:
1. A New Beginning- An instrumental, I love it because I love listening to the guitar playing as much as the singing, probably even more. This is a great beginning to the cd.

2. The Anthem- I like this song although I think it's being overplayed on the radio and tv. And I hate it when people who have just now picked up on GC and know I like them say "This is the Anthem throw all your hands up!" to me and throw their arms up in the air. It's kinda ruined the song for me a little, but don't worry GC, I'll always like this song!

3. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous- Another that's been ruined by overplay on radio and tv, although it's still a good song with a lot of meaning to it. Isn't it funny, though, how this was the song that really made them rich and famous?

4. Wondering- A sweet song. I've heard that Benji says some of the lyrics are about his dog, which I think is awesome because they can totally apply to a dog. (I love my dog by the way) But this could still be a really sweet love song too.

5. The Story of My Old Man- I like this song too. OMG it pisses me off when people go "I think maybe it's about their dad or something that must cause trouble at home for them!"

6. Girls and Boys- Not one of the best, but still good.

7. My Bloody Valentine- This is an awesome song! It's actually pretty sweet when you think about it...but anyway it's based on Edgar Allen Poe's "Telltale Heart" which is a great book if you haven't read it! (I read it when I heard that GC had based one of their songs on this book)

8. Hold On- A good song to listen to if you're feeling down.

9. Riot Girl- I get tired of this song, but I suppose it's good.

10. Say Anything- At first I was put off by the beginning of this song, but after listening to it, I liked it.

11. The Day That I Die- Perhaps not the best song to take seriously, but it's actually a good song once you get past the fact that they're saying "the happiest day of my life is the day that I die."

12. The Young and the Hopeless- I really like this song, and like the really personal line "I'm angry at my father."

13. Emotionless- This is a really sad, really personal song to Benji and Joel's dad. It can really bring a lump into your throat!

14. Movin' On- I couldn't believe when I read what someone else typed "I never listen to this song" How can you not like it, even a little? It's a GREAT ending to the cd! "Make the best with what you're given, this ain't dying, this is living!" Take that line and live by it! Make the best out of every day and quit whining about how terrible your life is when so many other people in the world are really having serious problems!

Ok, I know this turned out in the end as not as much of a review as just typing my feelings into the computer because my brother and friends were tired of hearing me rant and rave about the bands I listen to 24/7! Anyway, if you like really hardcore punk, this probably isn't for you unless you're like me and like a huge variety of everything that could possibly be classified into the "punk" category! If you're one of those who likes Avril Lavigne and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, hey, go ahead and get the cd, you'll probably like it, just please try to appreciate everything this cd has to offer.

Free Music Review: Whew! Just what I needed.....
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow! What a breath of fresh air! Good Charlotte's latest cd "The Young and the Hopeless" couldn't have come at a more perfect time. When bands such as Nsync and BSB have pretty much faded out of the music scene along with other teeny boppers such as Britney Spears I, as well as the rest of the music world, have been searching for some damn good music! And here it is in the form of five guys in a little band called Good Charlotte, from lil ole Waldorf, Maryland.
After the inescapable "bubble gum pop phase" I was lost when it came to music. Then came hard rock. Bands like Disturbed and Korn were a major change of pace from BSB and Britney. And while I still am a major fan of the heavy rock scene, I needed something different, something not so dark...rock with a light-hearted sound. Blink 182 helped me through, but then came Good Charlotte. When I heard the "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," the first release from the new album, I became very interested in this band. Then suddenly it clicked that these were the same guys who had sung that great song "Little Things" about a year before! I hadn't heard anything from the band since "Little Things," but I wanted more of Good Charlotte.
I found "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" to be a very comical look on the whole issues of celebrities who complain to much. With it's catchy lyrics and great music I was hooked. So without getting samples of other songs on the album, just going by that one song, I decided to pick up "The Young and the Hopeless." I remember being a little worried when I picked up this cd because this was a new style of music that I never had been into. I mean I liked the punk sound of Green Day but never became a die hard fan, though I did enjoy a lot of their songs. But when I played the cd in the car on the way home from the store where I bought it, I was pleasantly surprised. The purley music intro is a wonderful little piece that combines great guitar playing skills with an orchestral backdrop. This is followed by songs such as "The Anthem," "The Story of My Old Man," and the wonderful "Wondering." "Wondering is definitly one of my favorite tracks on the album. Though Benji swears it was inspired by his dog Cashdogg it is a great song that would also apply to the uncertainty of relationships. "Say Anything" also deals with the pains and struggles couple face in serious relationships...something a lot of us can relate to. And that is what draws in Good Charlotte fans - the ability to relate to the material. We all know those girls who try to get with guys because of the money and material things, this is addressed in the humorous track "Boys and Girls"...a punkish song with a bit of 80s retro in it. "Hold On" was a song written by the guys in response to the stories they had heard from their fans of broken homes, abusive parents, and generally hard times. It is a great track with a great message.
Though I could go on and on about how great each song is and why, I don't have that much space. I can't say enough how great this album truly is. It's punk music with just enough pop in it to make it addicting. And one of the qualities of this group I like is their raw talent. Joel, the lead singer, actually has a great voice, which isn't so prevalent in punk/rock music. This guy could sing beautiful ballads if he wanted to, "Hold On" shows a lot of his vocal skill. And go see them live if you are still not convinced. I did. I even met the twins, Benji and Joel, who were just the nicest, most down to earth guys...not what you would expect from guys who have girls screamin for them everywhere they go. They stay grounded and that is the true appeal of the group.
So if you are looking for a cd with a lot to offer (catchy songs, lyrics you can relate to, kewl sound) then pick up this album. You won't be let down. I wish the best for this band. I know they will go far, for it seems they can't do wrong. I give this album 5 stars and the band my total support! GC 4 Life!

Free Music Review: Pure work of genious and talent
Hit: 5 Stars

The Young and the Hopeless is an example of pure talent and genious. The entire album is full of catchy songs and truthful lyrics that arent fake. The sound of this album is incredible. The whole vibe of it and how it can brighten someone's day. Very good work of true musicians. People who say good charlotte is a fake band, well they havent truly listened to these guys and really should hear this stuff. The Madden Twins write a lot of the songs on their albums which shows true artistic work. They are fake in what they say and they arent a fake band.
I love the following tracksand rate them as.

The Anthem: God this song is a kick ass rebel song for anyone who hated high school. 5/5 stars

Lifestyles of the rich and famous-this song cracks me up. I just love the lyrics of this song. I laugh each time i see the video and listen to the song. 5/5 stars

My Bloody Valentine- One of my favorite songs off the album. This song is a more mature side of good charlotte. The lyrics are darker and more grotesque. 5/5 stars

Hold On- Well what can I say but an example of a band's love for people, respect for people who are going through this, who can relate to it. Hold On has put these guys on the music map. This song made them huge. The lyrics are so powerful that i cry wach time i hear it. I love how much more darker it is and how much of a risk these guys took with this song. This song could be the topic of controversy because of the them of the song. Truly, this was a song that was supposed to be written. It is one of their most powerful singles yet. The subject is very rreal to lots of young people who need something to grasp onto. This song gives people the raw details of suicide and what it can do to loved ones. The truth behind the song is that suicide is a major issue in today's society and that these guys took the initiative to write this song about what is going on with young teen girls especially and what goes through a suicidal person's mind. Its the indepth look into a person's head and what they feel like. Very good song and a very true theme. What a worthwhile track. It will be their biggest yet to go down in the history of rock. definite 5/5 stars

say anything- another powerful song. A song about true emotions and true life. The lyrics are so very powerful and so very true. 5/5 stars

the day that i die-good funky rock song. I love the whole song and benji madden sounds really good on this song. true work of art again. 5/5 stars

the young and the hopeless- now this is what i am talking about. A true rock song. this song is more rock than pop. the lyrics are kick ass and the vibe is rock true rock.

emotionaless-a very emotional song that is really close to joel and benji madden's life. it's their life story if any of you people out there have read about or heard about their life story then you can understand the entire song and its concept. a true look into these guys head and what they are thinking of when they flashback. These guys were pissed at their dead beat dad who left them. That is the whole concept of the song. It's about forgiveness but yet its about hatred. It's about a father who left his family and never gave a care in the world about what he did. It's about the result of him leaving and the affect it had on the family entirely especially the kids. Benji and Joel arent lying in this song, their past isnt a joke, it's not a lie, its the truth and nothing but the raw truth. a definite 5/5 stars

so i would suggest any of these guys' albums, greenday's american idiot, the killers, blink 182, simple plan and others. Well worth the money and well worth the listen. You wont be disappointed i guarantee.
