Free Music Notes for The Young and the Hopeless

Free Music Review: anything but hopeless
Hit: 5 Stars

Good Charlotte has always faced criticism, since their humble beginnings as a high school band of losers trying to play ska to their recent higher profile days as Mtv's favorite pets. Stereotyped as the "pretty boys of pop-punk" by one too many e-zines and adored by rabid little girls, the band has struggled to be taken seriously for years. Their first single from their first self-titled effort "Little Things" came out at the same that Blink 182's "All the Small Things" was ruling the charts, and immediately GC were deemed Blink copycats who would fade away and be working the drive-thru at Mickey D's by 2002. But rather than giving up and spending their days asking "Would you like fries with that?", the motivated, hard-working guys of GC toured furiously and won over fans with their intensely energetic live show and lyrics that all alienated high schoolers can relate to. On "The Young and the Hopeless", GC shows growth and maturity while staying true to their roots.
One listen to this album will get you hooked. It kicks off with an instrumental intro that leads into "The Anthem," which is old-skool GC-style: energetic, catchy, and gets the crowd jumping at the shows. Old fans of the band will be blown away by the improvement in songwriting and new depth, maybe even a dark side of GC, explored on tracks like "Day That I Die," "Hold On," and "My Bloody Valentine." "Riot Girl" and first single "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" are ultra-catchy and fun, "Boys and Girls" has a bouncy new-wave vibe, and "Emotionaless" and "My Old Man" are sincere and personal. "Say Anything" samples their old song "Time After Time" and "The Young and the Hopeless" addresses the very vocal GC-haters. "Wondering" and "Moving On" are two standout tracks, but everyone who has heard the album has their own favorites. That's the beauty of GC's lyrics; there's something for everybody if they're just willing to listen.
"The Young and the Hopeless" is both eclectic and personal, two things that are rare in alternative rock. The band has a certain chemistry, the guys are charismatic and genuine, and they have a real talent for creating catchy rock tunes. Unlike the other bands they are often lumped together with (New Found Glory, Blink 182, Simple Plan...), GC's songs aren't redundant, whiny songs about being dumped by girls. Instead they focus on hope, life, and "Moving On"; they keep it positive and fun without being too light or fluffy. "The Young and the Hopeless" proves that Good Charlotte aren't going anywhere.

Free Music Review: One of the Best CD's in the World!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a HUGE fan of GC, and out of both their CD's, this is the best! here's my rating for each individual (sp?) song:
1. A New Beginning - Pretty good for an instrumental...4/5
2. The Anthem - Definitely shows how I've felt bout jr. high (I;m not in high school yet...next year tho!) i definitely give it a 5/5!
3. Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous - I absolutely love this song and agree with it completely, celebs complain way too much! 5/5
4. Wondering - I was surprised when I found out that this was about Ca$hdogg! It sounds like a sweet love song, which is why it really surprised me when I found out its about Benji & Joel;s dog! 5/5
5. Story of My Old Man - Awesome song! obviously about Benji & Joel's dad, but unlike Emotionless, is made into a very upbeat song, 4.5/5
6. Girls and Boys - Definitely the most popular song on the album, hilarious video for it (old people w/ mohawks, how can that not be funny?!) 5/5
7. My Bloody Valentine - COOLEST SONG EVER! I absolutely love this song! whenever I;m in a sad mood, for some reason this song always makes me happy again! 10/5!
8. Hold On - I absolutely LOVE this song, because I can relate to it so well, it helped me get thru a very hard part of my life that I just got out of. And the video for it is amazing! 200/5!!!
9. Riot Girl - Love this song, almost describes me (except that I don't have tattoo's, but I will!) and just change Christina to Cara, and you've got a song dedacated (sp?) to yours truly! 5/5!
10. Say Anything - I used to be really annoyed by this song, but now I absolutely love it! "I used to know the sound/ Of a smile/In your voice," fit me better than anything these past few months 5/5
11. Day That I Die - awesome song, kinda odd to have this on the same album as Hold On though, but i still love it all the same! 4.5/5
12. The Young and the Hopeless - awesome song! one of my favorites "It's me against this world/And I don't care" definitely fits me! 5/5
13. Emotionless - very slow song, but an awesome song! the friend that initally had me listen to this album skipped this song, and I had asked her why and she sayed that it's too "depressing". She didn't read into the song, all she did was judge by the speed mainly. 5/5
14. Movin' On - AWESOME SONG! shows that even though they've been through hard times, they're not going to dwell on them, they just move on. something that's hard for me, but this song is really helping me to. 5/5!

Free Music Review: One of the best CD's I own
Hit: 5 Stars

The Young And The Hopeless is one of the best CDs I have in my collection... Here's how I rate each and every song...

A New Beginning: 3/5
This isn't really a song, just an interlude to the "new" Good Charlotte, no words, just insturments...

The Anthem: 5/5
One of my favorite on the CD, the beginning is the best... The bands second single off the CD, you'll most likely buy the CD for this song, very catchy.

Lifestyles Of The Rich And The Famous: 3/5
Good Song, but I'm wore down on it because it has been played so damn much on the radio... The first single off the CD...

Wondering: 4/5
This song is good at first, but the more you listen to it, the more you're like "SHUT UP, JOEL"... It gets annoying fast... But still, it's a good song.

The Story Of My Old Man: 5/5
This is one of the coolest songs on the CD, it starts off fast and then slows down, then picks up... Very unpredictable... NICE!

Girls And Boys: 5/5
My 2nd favorite song, the fourth single of the CD... It makes sense too... This is a sure fire sign to get this album... It's awesome!

My Bloody Valentine: 10/5
This, is officially the reason to go and BUY THIS CD, they blew me away with this one, it's the best, THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN THE NEXT SINGLE... Not 'The Anthem', Not 'Young & The Hopeless', Not 'Girls And Boys', THIS ONE, one of the best songs I've ever heard, it gives me chills it's so damn good, BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM, buy this CD!!!

Hold On: 4/5
An Anti-Suicide song, slow, but meaniful...

Riot Girl: 5/5
A story about a attituide-bound girlfriend, I like it, so I'm sure you will, this was supposed to be a single, but I guess they changed their mind. Oh well... It's good...

Say Anything: 5/5
A breakup song... It talks about how he doesn't want them to stop being friends, it is a great song to jam to after a breakup

The Day That I Die: 5/5
Just listen to it... It's Benji's turn, baby...

The Young And The Hopeless: 4/5

The 3rd single, not ALL that great, but it's good... It tells of how they grew up...

Emotionless: 5/5
A song about living without their dad and their struggles, a very sad song... It shows Good Charlotte CAN write beautiful songs... One of the best..

Movin' On: 5/5
The perfect ending of an album, great song...

And there you go, this is like... I think the best album I have, I listen to it EVERYDAY... So please, do yourself a favor and go buy it... you won't regret it...

Free Music Review: Good Charlotte is more than Good
Hit: 5 Stars

This is my all time favorite CD. Each song has its own sparkle and twist

A New Beginning- 8/10- This is a cool way to start a cd off. it is fun to listen to the guitar play

The Anthem- 9/10- This song talks about being yourself and not trying to be like everybody else. It has an awesome rock kind of style

Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous- 10/10- This song is their most famous song. Despite the fact they are famous, it brings out good points how famous people always want pitty and stuff i love how it starts out with the drum beat

Wondering- 8/10- This is a cute song about their dog. It has an awesome chorus

The Story of my Old Man- 9/10- Joel and Benji's dad left them when they were kids. This song tells about how their dad was an what a jerk he was to leave. The beginning starts with a guitar and drums which is really cool

Girls and Boys- 7/10- I like this song a lot. It tells about how boys and girls are always looking for other things than personality. It has a neat 80's beat i love it

My Bloody Valentine- 7/10- The tune is my favorite; however, the lyrics talk about killing a guy because he loves his girlfriend which can lead some people to think that is okay, which it is not. I like the tuna a lot though

Hold On- 8/10- I love love love this song. It tells how life is going to get better no matter how it is right now. It is so pretty and convincing and shows nobody should commit suicide

Riot Girl- 9/10- This song is hilarious. It 1st reminded me of a bowling for soup song. He loves her even though she causes problems everywhere. Awesome tune

Say Anything- 8/10- It is a good song to get couples back together. The whole song has a wonderful tune

The Day that I die- 8/10- This tune is great It is a totally different style than all of the other songs. Like, banjo type. It talks about how different you live the last day of your life

The Young and Hopeless- 10/10- When I feel sad, I listen to this song. It talks about how life may be bad but it gets better even if it feels low right now

Emotionless- 10/10- This song is so touching. It is Joel writing a letter to his dad saying how they are ok but it was still wrong for him to leave slow, comforting tune

Movin On- 10/10- Could not have ended the CD any better. The tune is shouting, singing, fast, I totally love it!

This CD is the best. If i were you, I would not hesitate, i would buy it now

Free Music Review: buying tips
Hit: 5 Stars

here are some overall tips on whether or not to get this cd...

A LIFESTYLES-ONLY FAN: NO
1. if you are an overall pop-rock kind of person (you avoid the punk alternative radio stations, listen to stuff like simple plan, avril lavigne, etc) and are a fan of
GC's radio hits like Lifestyles and Anthem... i would suggest borrowing this CD first before you buy it. i'm not going to deny that it's a great album, but the rest
of the cd is much different from what you were expecting if all you know is lifestyles.

HARDCORE PUNKER: NO
2. if you are a punk-obsessionist... and you enjoy analyzing who fits and who doesn't fit in your genre, i wouldn't suggest this cd. it will just make you angry that
GC's looks don't exactly match their music. i hate filing music into subjects, but to face facts, most of good charlotte isn't hardcore punk, it's more pop rock or
pop punk. but if you aren't blinded by the boundaries of genres, hopefully you can recognize good music when you see it.

A LONGSTANDING GC FAN: YES!
3. this is a great sophomore effort from the guys of good charlotte. they really show how they have matured and grown over the past few years. if you have been
with them from the beginning, or are even just discovering them, you won't be disappointed with this album--it's one of those rare cds that doesn't have any weak
tracks and can be played several times in a row without growing old.

IF YOU ARE A FAN OF... : YES!
4. New Found Glory, Simple Plan, Sugarcult, Sum 41, All American Rejects, Mest, Phantom Planet, Jimmy Eat World, Green Day, The Ataris, Blink-182,
Allister, Rufio, The Starting Line, Further Seems Forever, Goldfinger.

a returning GC fan? if you don't already have their debut self titled album, make sure you get it. with a mix of fun rock tracks, you can tell this was when they
were younger--but it's just as good as this album, just less serious and more... spontaneous.
other suggestions for CDs if you loved this one:
-"simple static" (sugarcult)
-"mest" (mest)
-"so long astoria" (the ataris)
-"the all american rejects" (all american rejects)
-"not another teen movie: soundtrack" (various artists)
-"international superhits" (green day)
