"Goodfellas" is so beautfilly acted, filmed, written and directed that at times it seems to defy description...

No small part of this is due to the brilliant soundtrack....covering three generations of life in the Mob, Scorcese uses the Italo-American pop of Bobby Darin and Tony Bennett, the early 50's doo wop of the Harptones and the Cadillacs; the 60's Phil Spector produced Ronnettes and Crystals, right through the Stones and Iggy Pop.

The amazing thing is that ALL of it fits...

There's no reason, for example, that Scorcese's use of "Layla" as corpses are being discovered all over New York City should work, but it works beautifully.....this is Scorcese's particular genius...

Much of the music in the film is not included on the released sountrack (you won't find Iggy Pop, The Ronnettes, Vito and the Salutations or the Stones).

We can only assume that Warners didn't want to pay for the additional licensing fees.

But there's enough on the commercial CD to reccomend it.

Who can complain about having Bobby Darin, The Cadillacs,the Harptones and Aretha Franklin all on one disc?
