Whether you want to take it officially or UNofficially, Alonzo "Gorilla Zoe" Mathis is pretty much the leader of Boyz N Da Hood now that Young Jeezy has left the fold. And he comes at us now with his official solo debut, Welcome to the Zoo.
I really wasn't planning on picking up this album at all after hearing "Hood N", but fortunately that song grew on me (except for the third verse, that is). And actually, that's the only song that stands out on here because Zoe really doesn't have that much to say. Many of the tracks are uncreative tellings of topics we've all heard before, like cars ("Take Your Shoes Off"; "Lil Shawty"), fighting ("Crack Muzik"; "Do Something"), and getting drunk ("Tryna Make a Jug"), not to mention the obligatory honey-sings-the-chorus track, "You Don't Know Me", featuring D. Woods of Danity Kane.
And sometimes he gets a little TOO creative; case in point: "Money Man" uses other celebrities as metaphors for his riches, but he goes too far and makes the song oversaturated. Welcome to the Zoo is only for fans of anything from Bad Boy South, so if you're not one, you can do without it.
