Free Music Review: Still Got It
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first heard about this CD, I heard that Dan The Automator and Del were gone. I almost didn't want to listen to it. But when I heard that Danger Mouse was Dan's replacement...I bought it sound unheard. And after hearing Feel Good Inc. on the radio, I knew The Mouse still had tricks up his sleeves - as well as the Gorillaz. Demon Days is by far, one of the best Cds i own - and one of the only ones i can listen to from beginning to end and never get sick of it. Now it's time to break it down track by track.

1. Intro - Short but sweet. The intricate pattern of this song, is so simple but at the same time so complex. The "food Chain" sample thing is great too. 5/5

2. Last Living Souls - Another great song. Kind of a slower vibe than the rest of the album. But that just adds to the diversity. About halfway through the song it breaks down to an acoustic and a piano...and is simply amazing. Danger Mouse's String techniques come in and the song is great. 5/5

3. Kids With Guns - Great Bass Line! so simple. but amazing. Great guitar riffs. great effects. 5/5

4. O Green World - The intro fooled me. I thought i wasn't going to like the song but it's another great track. 5/5

5. Dirty Harry - Another great upbeat, groove song. synth in the breaks is great. 5/5

6. Feel Good Inc. - 1st single. Damon Albarn (2-D) sticks with his favorite little voice effect and it still works great for the songs. De La Soul definately filled the Funky Homosapien gap. Again, 5/5

7. El Mañana - Great slower song. Kind of like a second Tomorrow Comes Today. 5/5

8. Every Plant We Reach Is Dead - Apparently my favorite word is great...but this album is jus amazing. Kind of slow again. but the beginning doesn't seem it. good song. period. 5/5

9. November Has Come - MF DOOM! all that needs to be said..also..buy DangerDoom (Danger Mouse and MF DOOM)'s CD "The Mouse And The Mask" 6/5

10. All Alone - Can't understand a one word Roots Manuva says, but i love the rythm. 5/5

11. White Light - Short, Interesting, break is amazing Great 5/5

12. DARE - 2nd Single, one of my favorites. the snyth in this song is amazing as well as the harmonies. The Mouse Really shines On This One. 5/5

13. Fire Comming Out Of A Monkey's Head - Dennis Hopper reading a story, 2-D singing. What more could you ask for? 5/5

14. Don't Get Lost In Heaven - Part One of the end. Amazing. music is awesome, and the London Community Gospel Choir is displayed greatly on this (and the next) track. 6/5

15. Demon Days - Again. Danger Mouse is ridiculously amazing. Thank you and Gorillaz fro making this CD. great way to end a Cd Part two of the end.

Overall an amazing Cd and technically the fourth in the Gorillaz collection, but actually only their second original release. Amazing!! Buy It Now

Free Music Review: A Demon On One Shoulder, An Angel On The Other
Hit: 5 Stars

Living in South Korea, I was way behind the buzz when the Gorillaz released this second album. I simply saw the title on my Amazon.com recommendations list. I loved their self-titled debut so much that I immediately ordered "Demon Days." I never heard or read one word about the album. I got the CD in the mail, listened to it, and loved it. So, point number one: if you liked the first one, you'll like this one.

What should the rest of you expect? The cartoon side-project that is represented by this group (which is really less of a "group" and more the brain-child of Damon Alburn of Blur) is a heavily experimental affair. Where the first record moved all over the map, toying with new mixes of old sounds, this record has a definite (almost narrative) flow. It starts with "Last Living Souls" in bass-heavy darkness, the music rich and wide with a cavernous feel, a hint of up-swing to the playfully gloomy sound.

"Kids With Guns," "O Green World," and "Dirty Harry," in spite of their playground pop sounds, are all similarly creepy. They play with lilting electronica and prodding rhythms, underlaying these things with an addictive, scabrous disonance.

Then comes the appropriately mislabled "Feel Good Inc.," the first single of the record, and with good reason. Featuring unsettling back-laughter, penitent lyrics, and De La Soul's invigorating voice, this song courts the album's dark mood with a lighthearded step.

That lightheartedness slinks away and hides in the next four tracks (with names like "All Alone" and "Every Planet We Reach Is Dead," that's to be expected). A tapestry of needfulness, lamentation, frustration, and yen-like confusion is woven in songs that are alternately soft and wirey, tender and knuckled. The dreariness is toppped off in "All Alone," which also includes a chorale of hope, leading into the next stellar track, DARE.

Easily the centerpiece of this album, DARE is a futuristic world-hopper, an incredibly fun, amazingly crafted soul-massage. Deep driving buzzes mixed expertly with high, stratospheric hums make for a song that is both playful and dreary, a combination that works, and works well.

Dennis Hopper's spoken-word "Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head" isn't so notable, although it does segue (thematically and musically) into the album's final key notes of redemption. Church choir joy fills up "Don't Get Lost In Heaven," a song that is like the equivalent of a warm, amber dawn after a cool, ghost-plagued night. The next song, "Demon Days," is hardly another song at all, but the second half of the album's send-off into a brighter and happier world.

An inspired musical journey through twilight into day (or, if you prefer, simply a collection of fun, intelligent music), "Demon Days" is a world you'll enjoy visiting.

Free Music Review: A great listen.

The third offical release from The Gorillaz, this time the "group" took a different route from their underground self titled cd and "G-sides" the remix ep.

First Del The Funkee Homosapien left the band, and Dan The Automators job was passed on to the great DJ DangerMouse, leaving Damon Albarn a clean slate and much more room to experiment with lyrics and which direction he wanted to take the cd. As stated in his MTV interview he said that "This cd is darker then the previous Gorillaz" and in that is what we got. A gloomier more gritty sound with a whole new line up of colaborations with rapers such as MF DOOM (who some consider to be one of the most intelegent off the wall fun rapers to date) and with De La Soul who is on the first singal Feel Good Inc. just to name a few of the notorious underground rappers which have been made into almost a 'click' of underground superstars who never dissapoint.

Once again Damon Albarn and friends pulled it off. Even though its a different sound, there are still the notable present themes in The Gorillaz music. You have super sampling of George A. Romeros zombie classics, and Damons present love for the actor Clint Eastwood (Hopefully there are more tracks with a Clint theme) because "Diry Hairy" which has been said to be the follow up of one of their career making songs "Clint Eastwood" is just as good as its predecessor. They share a similarity in ways, one being the strangly dark song with lyrics that don't match. But then again, if anything made sence during the first listen, it wouldnt quite be the Gorillaz, because each of their songs old and new have you thinking and pondering what was the intent and deeper meaning of it. But the best part about this album is that it has a story telling quality to it. Each of these tracks you want to listen to in order because it takes you on a roller coaster ride through you head and you get deeply entranced in each song and you want to find out what the next one will be like. Every time I listen to this album I never get tired of it. Only song I remotely ever came close to skipping was "Feel Good Inc." because it was repeatedly played on Tv at least 2-3 times a day. But this is one of thoes cds where everyone has a favorite song, and to them it could never get boring. My personal favorite is Deamon Days. Its a very chilling end to the cd which leaves me feeling like i didnt waist my time listening to a cd, and that Damon really put all that he could into it.

But in the end, this more structed, more defined Gorillaz cd is a must have for any music lover, and for fans alike. You will not be dissapointed, and you might become a lover of The Gorillaz Yourself.

Free Music Review: Listen up people who gave this a bad review, for I will tell all...

First of all, the posers who said "Gorillaz suck, they copy (place band name here), ect. ect.", you have no idea what you are talking about. The album is FINE to the people who like most of the tracks, such as myself. If you don't like these songs, DON'T LISTEN TO IT, and don't post lame excuses for your dislike of Gorillaz. Also, for those of you that said "Anyone can make cartoon versions of themselves and pass off as a band...", I'd like to see YOU try, and see If you get very far. I liked the album, it was decent, although I must admit it did not live up to my expectations built up by the previous CD. Here is my review:

1. Intro : Its just the Intro, made up of random sounds and music, nothing to complain about.

2. Last Living Souls : Yes, it's repeditive and sounds like it was made on a $5 keyboard, you have to really listen to the music and get used to it to enjoy it.

3. Kids With Guns : An AWSOME song, it sticks in your head with it's cool beat.

4. O Green World : A nice song, although I did not like the main beat. It has nice vocals by 2-D.

5. Dirty Harry : I must admit, I don't like this song except for the funky music. The vocals are kind of annoying.

6. Feel Good Inc. : THE BEST SONG ON THE CD. It has a VERY nice chorus, with the guitar and the vocals. This is one of those songs where you might want to turn "repeat mode" on your CD Player on.

7. El Manana : A nice smooth song, one to listen to when your not in the mood for a real loud song.

8. Every Planet We Reach Is Dead : A nice song, due to the vocals.

9. November Has Come : If it wernt for the annoying rap in this track, that sounds like it was written by Andy Millanokis, I would like this song.

10. All Alone : You have to listen to the entire song to really enjoy it, otherwise you will give up on it VERY quickly.

11. White Light : I didn't like this song, but that's just me.

12. Dare : A catchy song, filled with semi-techno music.

13. Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head : A "song" that really catches the Gorillaz "weirdness".

14. Don't Get Lost In Heaven : Does'nt really belong on this CD, but liked it anyways.

15. Demon Days : This finale is alright, but not that great.

Overall, I liked this album. The was some things that bothered me, like how 2-D seemed to always sing through a bull-horn, and the repeditive songs. Well I hope this helped people who are deciding on purchasing this, (or downloading, if thats what you do)and for those whome I mentioned before, I hope I made my point.

Free Music Review: VERY GOOD
Hit: 5 Stars

This Album is one of my favorites to come out this year. It is VERY GOOD, but not perfect. I give it 4.5 stars, but not 5. Some things to realize before listening to this: This is a VERY different album from the original gorillaz album. The producer on this album is Dangermouse instead of Automater(on the original Gorillaz album). Although Dangermouse's beats aren't as catchy and charming, they are still very pleasing. Some of the tracks have almost a dark and grimey undertone but are actually very sick on second and third listen. The only real qualms I have with the album is that I can't listen to it from start to finish all the way through. My favorite tracks are: O Green World, Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc., El Manana, Every Planet We Reach Is Dead, November Has Come, All Alone, and Dare. Some of the tracks are entertaining to listen to such as Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head, but aren't that great. Demon Days and Don't Get Lost In Heaven are very spacey and not very good tracks in my opinion. Not horrible, but just not up to par with the rest of the album, and they sound almost the same. Kids with Guns and Last Living Souls are good tracks, but nothing amazing. The album misses Del tha Funkee Homosapien on it, but is still pretty sick and has lots of other collaborations (De La Soul, MF Doom, etc.) that still make for a very solid tracklist. This album isn't as lyrically talented as the first one (which had sick flows from del on a lot of the hip hop focused tracks), but the beats sort of make up for it. On songs like Dirty Harry and All Alone that don't really have lyrics for the most part, its fine because the beats are SICK, and i mean super sweet. the same could be said about Dare. All in all its a very solid album. Don't pick this one up expecting it to sound like the first gorillaz album, and make sure that you listen to it several times before dismissing it. I didn't like it very much on first listen, but i've realized its actually a masterpiece, it just takes some time to see it clearly for what it is. One thing you have to remember when you listen to this album is that Del has left the group, so there isn't really a true M.C. in this band anymore, but they still manage to put out a very solid hip-hop (sort of) album. This is in part due to collabs, and Damon trying his voice at doing it but he doesn't really have the voice for rapping. Don't pick this up looking for sick flows because they aren't there on a lot of the tracks (except songs such as feel good inc., november has come, and a few others).
