Free Music Notes for Demon Days

Free Music Review: Damon who?
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, let me start by saying that I am a big fan of the first Gorillaz album, the G-Sides and the Space Monkeys' dub mixes. I was very excited for this album to come out and I was not disappointed at all. This album is as good as the first if not better. The band told us this would be a darker album and it is.

I do want to warn you that if you are hoping for a "tight" rap CD, you might be disappointed. Gorillaz is not a "rap band". Rather, they are a band that combines all kinds of genres (including some rap) and have achieved a very unique and original sound.

Some people have complained about D-2's voice, but I think it sounds as good as ever. It does sound a bit like what's-his-name from Blur, but he clearly has his own sound.

Someone said they were disappointed that Russel wasn't on it, but he is. He is the drummer and there are drums in nearly every song. He used to be possessed by the spirits of his rapping friends who would come out now and then in songs like Clint Eastwood, but he's had the spirits exorcized and the band have invited some real life rappers to fill the void. By the way they do a pretty good job.

Someone complained that All Alone has a Mickey Mouse sing along sound. I guess I can hear a voice that sounds like a cartoon on it, but then again THIS IS A CARTOON BAND!

Awesome album. Buy it. Buy it with the DVD for the packaging alone.

El Manana, Every Planet We Reach is Dead, DARE, and All Alone are my favorites.

Free Music Review: Gorillaz are a monkey of a band!
Hit: 5 Stars

I love this CD. I was very lucky that their first hit single from the CD, Feel Good Inc., was on the Ipod commercial, because without that first funky tune, I would never know the miracle in music that is Gorillaz. I have rated each song:

1. Intro: B-. Cool with Dawn of the Dead music.

2. Last Living Souls: B. Nice beat, good singing. Good start.

3. Kids With Guns: A-. Creepy, nice singing. Awesome.

4.O Green World: B+. Overhyped. Still pretty weird.

5. Dirty Harry: A-. It starts with a children chorus, ends with rapping to violins. O-K. . .

6. Feel Good Inc.: A+. I wish I never heard it, because it is so good that I just can't get it out of my head. This song makes The Gorillaz. . . amazing!

7. El Manana: C. A boring ending to Feel Good Inc.

8. Every Planet We Reach Is Dead: B-. Also boring.

9. November Has Come: A. A funky, funny rap.

10. All Alone: A. First is just two words, repeated over and over: All Alone. Then comes the big punch of it. The kick. The rap.

11. White Light: B-. Just a little knick-knack of a song.

12. Dare: B. Noodle is singing with a huge. . . head.

13. Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head: C. What's to it?

14. Don't Get Lost In Heaven: D-. An awful song that almost turned me away from the album.

15. Demon Days: C. Okay. The CD should have been called: Gorillaz-From Out of The Graveyard. Huh?

Free Music Review: Wow...just....wow...
Hit: 5 Stars

I just got this CD earlier today, and now I just can't stop listening to it! The songs are just so catchy! Some of them I don't get at all, like Fire coming out of a Monkey's head, or White Light, but they are still great songs. Ok, now I'll sum up all of the songs:
Intro: i dont really see this as a song,so...
Last Living Souls: I give this a 4. Catchy, nice song.
Kids With Guns: 5. Great song, one of my favorites.
O Green World: 4.5. Also one of my favorites. Good song, I like the beat a lot.
Dirty Harry: 5. I love this song! I love the tunes, beats, violins, even the rap part!
Feel Good Inc.: 5. This song is the ONLY reason I bought this CD, but to my surprise I loved ALL of the songs! Great guitar parts, catchy tune, yep...
El Manana: 4. Slow song, I still like it.
Every Planet We Reach is Dead: 3.5. Ok song, I didn't really get it at all.
November Has Come:4. Nice song. That's all I have to say.
All Alone: 3.5. Creepy song, still good though.
White Light: 4. Also creepy, but I like it.
Dare: 5! This song will make you wanna dance! The video is...weird...though.
Fire Comin Out of The Monkey's Head: 3.5. I did not get this song AT ALL.
Don't Get Lost in Heaven: 3. Ehhh...okay song...
Demon Days: 3. I didn't really like it, but I didn't hate it.
All in all, I give this CD a 4.5. Most of the songs are wicked awesome, but a few are just...meh...I am a new Gorillaz fan, so I don't have the first album. Peace out.

Free Music Review: Pink Floyd for the 21st Century!
Hit: 5 Stars

Like many 30-year-olds, I have virtually stopped purchasing CDs. Back around 2001 I downloaded every song I could possibly want, and then stopped, fearing legal action. 2001 is the last time I purchased a CD (Disturbed), saying over and over again I would never buy another one. That was true, until today. Because I don't download anymore, and listen to satellite radio constantly, I am up on new music but have no way of getting the music myself. "Feel Good, Inc." hit me HARD! I HATED it the first time I saw the video for it on FUSE. Then I began hearing it on DirecTV "Alternative" channel and just absolutely could not get enough of it. Today, I went to Best Buy and bought the CD, my first in almost five years. As I write this, I have listened to the CD through twice, and am about to "spin it" again.

THIS is why I stay at the cutting edge of music. Gorillaz defies classification, just like originators always do. There are so many influences and styles distributed throughout this album that I am not going to even try to list them. The sense I get after listening, if we must compare, is Pink Floyd. But although many of the "musical journeys" taken on Demon Days give the same Floydian sense of "feeling" music, Gorillaz' music is purely their own. I concur that "Feel Good, Inc." and "Dare" are the best tracks, but the remainder are not fillers, just the ebb and flow of the album. Someday, Demon Days will MATTER, my friends! Excuse me, now, while I purchase Gorillaz first album from AMAZON.com!

Free Music Review: Superb
Hit: 5 Stars

Ok, so writing a review praising Demon Days seems almost redundant at this point, but it can't be helped. This album is superb. Demon Days has it all - catchy melodic lines, clever raps, beautifully layered synth instrumentation, dance-worthy beats, intelligent lyrics - what more could you ask for? Each track is an innovative, genre-stradling work that stands alone nicely, but the album is best when taken in its entirety.

As you can probably ascertain from the other 300+ reviews, Demon Days has a bit of a somber streak, with lyrics that indict humanity's frailty and corruption. I'm not going to go into the whole "it's an allegory for the Iraq War" theory - lyrical analysis is for English class, not Amazon reviews. :P Furthermore, this album retains its charm through multiple listens. Even though I was a Gorillaz fan prior to Demon Days, I originally got this album for "Feel Good Inc." and "Dare." Both songs are excellent, but I find that the songs I paid little attention to at the get go are now the tracks I enjoy most (Kids with Guns, Oh Green World, November has Come, etc.). Like I said, it ages well.

So when it comes right down to it, who should buy Demon Days?

If the playlist on your MP3 player consists solely of top ten hits, then this album probably isn't for you. However, if you enjoy an eclectic mix of music, appreciate songs with both a surface and a deeper meaning, and have a bit of a melancholy soul, by all means buy Demon Days.
