Free Music Notes for Demon DaysFree Music Review: A comment... Hit: 5 Stars
Whoever wrote the review with the title "BEEN DONE BEFORE" on June, the 23rd, should definetly be either flogged to death or at least forced to justify himself. To say that the Gorillaz produced a rip off of The Dark Side of the Moon (which I love dearly) is an insult to the Gorillaz and Pink Floyd alike. The albums bear no resemblance whatsoever. The Dark Side of the Moon has no bass-percussion-driven tracks at all and has no modern hip-hop elements (note early 70's production label on Dark Side of the Moon). The only resemblance is in the mood, and I can find no justification to call something a cheap rip-off based on mood. That would be like filing a lawsuit against someone because they felt the same way about... I don't know... GOVERNMENT as you!
But, enough of the bashing; Gorillaz is awesome, to lay it blandly. Like what so many bands go for, this album is an experience, and takes you on a smooth journey through several feelings and moods. It zooms deftly in and out of the highs and lows. If a truly inspiring and thoughtful experience is what you look for in an album, then look no further than this CD.
If you need me to say more to convince you to buy this album, you, my friends, are a tough audience indeed.
By the way, I highly reccomend (not to say every track isn't great in its own way, of course) Feel Good Inc. and DARE.
Free Music Review: A great review for a great album . . . Hit: 5 Stars
I have never, EVER liked (or even listened to) hip-hop before, but after I heard "Feel Good Inc." I decided I'd step out of my comfort zone and give something new a try.
I thought it would be a couple of good songs and then a bunch of filler songs on the album, but the whole thing (especially if you listen to it from beginning to end) is fabulous! The animation from the video (which is stunning and beautiful) sort of overshadows how good Gorillaz is as a band.
There's also a sort of dance beat going through the whole album, which leads up to "DARE" (an excellent song!) I like to think of this album as a sort of work of art that was carefully planned and executed . . . definitely a wonderful addition to anybody's music collection.
Make sure you listen to "Kid with Guns", "Last Living Souls", "Dirty Harry" (a truly amazing song) and last, but not least, "Feel Good Inc." which carries a lovely message in the lyrics along with a good beat and bassline. You've got to love that 2-D!!
My only complaint about the album is that it's a little more melancholy than what I generally like . . . good to listen to before you go to bed or on a rainy day! It fits right in with my Queen, Beatles, Slim Whitman, opera and classical CD's. All in all, a great album. And I'm much more open to rap music now!
Free Music Review: King Kong of alternative style Hit: 5 Stars
Gorillaz grew on me. The first album, which I just picked up this year, is really nice beyond compare, but this new album is something that sets itself apart.
Apart from being produced by Danger Mouse with a host of guest rappers and entertainers from Roots Manuva to Dennis Hopper, this album is an experience from beginning to end exuding greatness.
One thing that you will notice is that some of the songs tie into one another. For instance, "Fire Coming Out of A Monkey's Head" ends with a bang and the next song "Don't Get Lost in Heaven" talks about fire coming out of a monkey's head. After that, the next song is "Demon Days", which is sort of a segue from the previous song. They all sort of blend together. Cool as hell, for real!
I am in awe of these guys because they have produced two complete masterpieces without really going on tour or showing their faces, much like an earlier Steely Dan. You will find that the lyrics are nearly incomprehensible but are so fun that you won't care. I had to look up the words online to find out what they were saying. "Kids with Guns" is a neat treat that you may want to look up.
Cop this if you like N.E.R.D., MF Doom or Tricky.
Beats: slicker than usual
Lyrics: innocuously sound
Lasting appeal: classic and masterful
Free Music Review: NON-STOP BRILLIANCE!!!! one of the years best albums... Hit: 5 Stars
the gorillaz have always been one of my favourite bands of all time...and they are fictious characters. they are better than most of the bands that came out in the past 6 years. i loved their last piece of work but i am definatley feelin the latest DEMON DAYZ... what i love about them, they have possibly the most depressing lyrics ever but makes sure that you can dance to the song. they dont have a specific genre. the gorillaz are all over the place with hip hop, rock, techno, electronica, alternative, etc.
honestly, who does not like the breakout hit 'feel good inc." w/ de la soul. this song is a must in all ipods and car stereos. i love this song to DEATH. i love the way de la soul comes out of nowhere and makes the song sound hip hop.
'dare' is another favourite of mine. the video clip is jsut amazing. noodle (the girl singing the song) did her thang!!!
'dirty harry', 'kids with guns', 'o green world', 'november has come', and 'demon days' are sum of my favourite tracks. but i rarely skip tracks on this LP. since the first day it came out in may i probably listen to this cd more than any other LP that came out this year.
the gorillaz are geniuses and they kno it. they are a force to be reckon with. GORILLAZ R ON THE RISE TO BE THE GREATEST....
Free Music Review: Genius, a true wake-up to the music industry Hit: 5 Stars
The first album from the Gorillaz collective since their 2001 eponymous debut - if you ignore the rather good remix album that came out a couple of months later - Demon Days springs a few surprises, as one might expect.
Away from his more regular gig as Blur frontman, Damon Albarn's laconic vocal delivery is as much in evidence as before and there are familiar hip-hop quirks as on November Has Come and funky moments as on Dare, which features the vocal talents of ex-Happy Mondays' singing sensation Shaun Ryder, but overall the Demon Days is a more sophisticated work than its predecessor.
Funky pop seeps through on the new single, Feel Good Inc, but many of the tunes attempt to gain access to places Gorillaz's earlier material wouldn't have dared to reach for, such as the complex but catchy El Manana, the ragga-tinged All Alone which features Roots Manuva, and Fire Coming Out Of A Monk, which has Dennis Hopper telling an eerie tale to a hip-hop backing.
More measured than their first album, Gorillaz have illustrated why they are one of the most innovative collection of musicians around today. At a time when most of the record industry's output is determined by focus groups and TV talent show debacles, Gorillaz are a breath of creative fresh air...
