Free Music Notes for G-Sides

Free Music Review: A nice album, but could have inclueded more songs or DVD vid
Hit: 4 Stars

This is the Gorillaz, plain and simple, with song fairly longs songs the CD is pretty good. The music is fresh and even the remixes feel more like totally new songs not just new words or new beat there is often such a difference I wonder why they even inclueded the same name. Now the complaint, it is just too short in the end, the Gorillaz are great and since all of these tracks except TWO have been released before they should have just waited or at least inclueded working versions of their FOUR videos they now have, I would love to watch these videos on a DVD collection or something. If you didn't buy all the import Single releases then with this CD and the origonal you will won every Gorillaz song out there so far, why not there music is amazing and there isn't a better time to get this CD.

Free Music Review: the mew gorillaz album--better than the first?
Hit: 4 Stars

Well the first thing that I have to say is that this album is pretty good considerind that it only has 9(NINE) songs!!!! I was really dissapointed when I found out that the two extra songs that were to be videos were not on the disk. The first the new single that came out yesterday in Brit. (tomorrow comes today) and the video for "rock tha house" are not on here. To tell the truth that is the only reason that I didn't give it a full rating! If the CD would have them I would give this CD 5. Well it really doesn't matter because I just seen them on the website,...they are pretty cool. To me though, the principle is to have something that was originally supposed to be on the album(I think that's called FALSE ADVERTISMENT)!!... This CD has 3 song that have already been out and they're just remixes of "19-2000" and "Clint Eastwood". All in all this is a pretty solid album of b-sides that were released through out the world just not in America. If anyone likes the Gorillaz debut album then this is a must buy for them!!

Free Music Review: Sweet but Short.
Hit: 3 Stars

Well, I just got back from the local record store with the new Gorillaz album, G-Sides. My reaction? Positive, but this doesn't stack up to their first album. One problem is length. There are only 9 tracks on here. I know this isn't supposed to be a feature album or anything, but I would've liked to have seen a few more tracks. However, there is some real quality stuff on here, regardless of length. For instance, Latin Simone in English is really great, as well as the Soulchild remix of 19-2000. Although 12D3 can get a bit repetative, it's still a great song. I'd have to say my favorite track on here is Ghost Train. It has a really unique sound, combing all sorts of stuff into a really awsome song. Of course, this CD also has some downfalls. I felt the Phi Life Cypher version of Clint Eastwood really didn't stand up to the original version, and the the Wiseguys remix of 19-2000 really doesn't have that much substance.

Overall, I'd give G-Sides a 3/5 . Nice, but not nearly as good as Gorillaz' first album.

Free Music Review: A good album for non-owners of the singles...
Hit: 4 Stars

The Gorillaz self-titled debut from last year one, in my opinion, was one of the year's best. But the B-Sides, or G-Sides, whatever, from the singles were also excellent, and have now been packaged in one CD that you can buy without having to shell out your hard earned bucks for imports that contain songs you already have on another CD...sort of like Megadeth's "Hidden Treasures"...anyways, most of the songs on this CD are very much above-average. The Soulchild Remix of "19-2000" is amazingly superb. The feel of the song is much different from the original, but I feel it's a much more catchy tune. This also contains a few tracks with some raps being dropped, not by Del, or Russel if you wanna be like that, but Phi Life, I think he's called. He appears on "The Sounder" and, naturally, the "Clint Eastwood Phi Life Cypher Remix." The Sounder is an excellent song, which has a LOT of rapping (The song clocks in at about 6:16) and another Gorillaz trademark incoherent chorus. "Ghost Train" is a typical Gorillaz track: Very odd song structure, very out-of-the-ordinary sounds, and very listenable.

"G-Sides" seems like an expansion to the Self-Titled album, as if it was a DVD release of an old movie only with special features...yeah...anyways, if you liked the Self-Titled album, and crave some more Gorillaz, this is a must-have.

Free Music Review: Here They Come to Steal My Soul
Hit: 5 Stars

It will come as no surprise to fans of the Gorillaz that this CD with enhanced videos is superb to say the least.

The songs from the "Gorillaz" CD are all re-vamped and revved up. The Phi Life Cypher re-mix of "Clint Eastwood" is phenomenal...it's Clint as it should be,... rambling about Star Wars.

"Faust" which can be found on another B-Side is worth it with the beefed up boost and then there is "Ghost Train" which was from the "Rock the House" single CD and has been placed upon this for your listening pleasure.

The Wiseguys (of the Mistubishi "put the body in motion" commercial fame) finish up the re-mix mayhem with the most mind-boggling redux of 19-2000...I know, I know just how many times can they re-do that and make it work? Well, at least once more ...AND HOW!

This is the Gorillaz on a case of Red Bull....and I like it!

Hail Murdoc!
