Free Music Notes for Revancha Del Tango (Bonus CD)Free Music Review: Rebirth of the Tango Hit: 5 Stars
After listening to this album today, I heard Astor Piazzolla&Narcotango on the radio. Astor would be proud--Gotan Project deftly mixes French savoir faire with the sensuality of the Argentine tango. One can easily imagine this music being played in a club on the Champs Elysees, or in a Buenos Aires cafe. It's stylish, sexy, and most importantly,FUN.
I first heard Gotan Project's "Santa Maria" on Putumayo's compilation "World Lounge"&enjoyed it, wondering how I could find more of their music.(I later found this particular track was in the awful J.Lo/Richard Gere "Shall We Dance?")
The standouts on this album is the opening "Queremos Paz" (I want peace),the tango version of Frank Zappa's "Chunga's Revenge",as well as the covers of the "Last Tango in Paris" theme and Astor Piazolla's "Vuelvo Al Sur." The Frank Zappa cover is amazing--considering it has been transformed into something very Latin. Hard to imagine it came from the mind of Zappa&the Mothers of Invention! The "Last Tango in Paris" theme is turned into chill-out music, not all evoking the controversial movie."El Capitalismo Foraneo" is a marvelous instrumental.
"Revancha del Tango" is perfect if you're looking for European lounge music--with a difference! As the French DJs behind this would say "Vive la difference!"
Free Music Review: Todo Dicho de la Musica, Critco el Envase! Hit: 5 Stars
bye
Free Music Review: Sexy, addictive, cool music! Hit: 5 Stars
By now you probably know that the Gotan Project is a fusion of electronica and tango ("gotan" is "tango" rearranged). I have no exposure to tango music, nor was I specifically looking for such. Instead, I was in search of downtempo, lounge-type music and accidentally stumbled across La Revancha del Tango. What a CD! I love all 10 tracks. There's a fair amount of bass beats, but the tempo is mostly slow (I assume this is tango). Not many vocals are found (but are in Spanish) and there's some vocal samples which I can't identify...but it doesn't matter; it's the sound and the mood which are entirely sexy and addictive. I listen to this CD all the time now.One surprise is the cover of Frank Zappa's "Chunga's Revenge." Yes, it's Zappa and somehow it works! The bonus disc has some remixes that are a bit too fast for my current interest in downtempo music and not as good as the originals on disc 1, IMO. However, the video for "Santa Maria" on the bonus disc is really great. It's very sexy and stylish, just like GP's music. Shot in B&W w/ an obvious lean towards cubism and patterns, it puts a smile on your face.
Free Music Review: Tango-Trance? Trance-Tango? Hit: 5 Stars
A very nice French lady called Anne-Marie gave me this disc a few weeks ago and I've been listening to it ever since. I watch the American remake of the Japanese film, "Shall We Dance", last week and I noticed that the music of Gotan Project was used very effectively when Richard Geer dances with J-Lo.
I listened to "La Revancha del Tango" this Sunday afternoon. It was around 40 degrees outside - damned hot! - and I just sat and listened to this disc with my air conditioner on full blast. I rather think that I will play this CD the next time I have some friends over for a few drinks.
The music of Gotan Project is rather hypnotic and relentless on this CD. I like that. I guess that one could call this "Tango-Trance", or something like that?! The percussion/drums, bass line, piano and piano accordion dominates the sound here.
I've been playing "Lunatico" at work all week and I like it, too. Gotan Project is performing in Adelaide, South Australia soon and I am seriously considering making the effort to see them.
Very spunky, suave and sexy dance music.
Free Music Review: Gotan Project - La Revancha Del Tango Hit: 5 Stars
The Gotan Project brought Latin/electronic fusion to a whole new level with their debut album LA REVANCHA DEL TANGO. Taking the sensuous tango as their base, they invigorate their music with a sinuous grace, creating music that's at once familiar and tremendously invigorating. The swelling accordions on "Queremos Paz" make you feel as if you're strolling through a Buenos Aires bazaar, while the rhythmic rigor and seductive vocals of "Epoca" are all about the ballroom. But tango isn't the only flavor on the menu: "Chunga's Revenge" and "Santa Maria (Del Buen Ayre)have hints of dub, while "Triptico" edges into house. "Vuelvo Al Sur" (originally written by tango master Astor Piazzolla) returns us to the pure delight of modernized tango. But my favorite track has to be the cover of "Last Tango in Paris." While the melody is straightforward, the careful layering of instruments (piano, strings, accordion) give the song a cumulative strength and a swooning elegance. While their style has been emulated a hundred times over by now, no one has quite touched their achievement.
