Free Music Notes for Don't Tell Columbus

Free Music Review: I think it's very average for him.
Hit: 2 Stars

You listen to this album and listen to the early GP albums and the things that he was so famous for are gone. He is a good writer but he uses it in a way less effective way since his songs aren't "to the point" like they use to be, it seems like he rambles on and on instead of stopping the song and leaving you wanting for more. Also his acerbic wit is gone which made the songs have a nice sting to them. If you want a great GP record check out: Heat Treatment, Squeezing out the Sparks, Howling Wind to start. This album is only good for hardcore fans and customers that want an average predictable album.

Free Music Review: Good Album from a Great Artist.
Hit: 4 Stars

Graham Parker is one of the two most underrated preformers of the last 30 years. (Richard Thompson the other). This album while not his best is still a very good album with many songs that I enjoy. He proves that an artist even though not that well known to the mass media, still after all these years makes music that puts most artists to shame.

Free Music Review: A fan but really it's a five star.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been listening to Graham Parker since 1976 I believe, and I have a world of respect for him as a writer, singer and performer. In my opinion their aren't many people on his level. He amazes me that for an old geek at his age he can come up with a CD this strong. Most of his competition just puts out mediocre product if they record at all.
It's not to often I listen to a new Cd and have WOW moments,on this Cd I had several WOW moments.
If you are curious or a fan who hasn't listened to Graham lately you owe it to yourself to get this Cd.Personally the 30 Minute samples didn't do much for me I bought this Cd because yes I am a fan and in his universe there has been a buzz about this CD.

Free Music Review: What's the word for better than best?
Hit: 5 Stars

I used to keep a fairly long list of folks whose next album I would automatically buy no matter what, sure they could do no wrong. Over the years nearly all have fallen off, some quietly and some with spectacularly loud and ugly thuds (Elvis Costello). Graham Parker has lived on my list longer than anyone and will undoubtedly never leave. "Don't Tell Columbus" is an amazing album by an amazing artist. It defies belief that a human being can make music this good so consistently for so long. It's almost scary to report that he's even getting better - I can think of no apt analogy to any other artist in music or any other field. I urge you to immediately quit reading my ignorant ramblings here and just listen to this CD. Blowhards like me are a dime a dozen - Graham Parker is one of a kind.

Free Music Review: Don't Tell Columbus
Hit: 5 Stars

A fabulous CD! I grew up listening to GP and especially liked his 'Squeezing Out Sparks' LP when I was in my late teens. I then ventured out later in his career and wisely invested in 'The Mona Lisa's Sister', which turned out to be one of my all-time favourite CD's and gets played regularly. I bought 'Don't Tell Columbus' on a whim; I loved it the first time I played it, as did my 23-year old daughter who went a bought it too! This is a GREAT album from a wonderful artist - the songs are classic GP, wonderful lyrics that are complete with his satirical political and social viewpoints and will not disappoint. If you don't have any GP CD's, buy this one, as you'll have bought a classic when it was released! Oh, and while you're at it, buy 'The Mona Lisa's Sister' too - a truly fantastic CD!
