This Ohio-bred, L.A.-based long-haired chap writes songs that seem readymade for the emotional climax to a show like The Gilmore Girls. Songs like "Bound by Love" and "Edible" marry classic '80s popcraft (think the Church, Smiths and R.E.M. pre-understandability) with soaring strings and a super anthemic sound that rivals Coldplay or Keane. Other tunes bring straight-ahead rock riffing ("Moment," "Baby Boy") that almost bring to mind the Strokes and Ben Folds working together, while the title song, "Do We Say Bye" and "Crash and Burn" are piano-driven midtempo weepers.
