Free Music Notes for Ladies & Gentlemen: The Grateful DeadFree Music Review: the dead at their absolute peak... Hit: 5 Stars
after having parts of the show on bootleg cassette tapes for the last 15 years (and trying to get these specific shows), finally they've released the shows that mark the dead at their best! I don't know how any fan of the grateful dead could argue that 1970-1972 was when they were at their best, before Donna and before Pigpen started to go downhill. It also marks a period before the band's extended jams became sleep-fests, like in the 80's and 90's. This 4-CD compilation is what every fan of the dead should have, and if I could pick only one Grateful Dead CD to own, this would be it.
Free Music Review: Dead for people who hate the Dead Hit: 5 Stars
During their last fifteen years or so the Dead coasted on their legend, pedaling a flaccid, safe, middle-of-the-road country rock that won them fans like Tipper Gore. But `twas not ever thus. There was a time when they rocked, and rocked hard. When Jerry Garcia really was the guitar god his "kids" always insisted he was. When their jams had juice and ranged far out into the cosmos, instead of just flopping around listlessly. A time when, in short, they had cojones. And that time was definitely 1971. This is Dead for people who hate what the Dead became.
Free Music Review: Magical Hit: 5 Stars
Magical Dead..the best since Oakland Coliseum Dick's Picks #5. Pigpen at his finest and Bob's rhythm perfect...historic..take some time and listen to all 4 in a row. Alligator jam all the way to Cold Rain and Snow...sent chills. Jerry quick and tight matching Bob and Phil..all in sync..the best I've heard ..really the best. Brought a smile and a chill...like being at a show...one of the ones...you know..one of "those shows" where everyone in the band..just has it. Even the harmonies were tight....that Fillmore..must have been some venue.
Free Music Review: Great Ol' Grateful Dead Hit: 5 Stars
In the early seventies the Dead released Workingman's Dead, American Beauty and Skull and Roses in a 24 month period. It was the Dead's most prolific creative period and it was born out in their live shows of the period. This is a classic example. Songs which later would be overplayed and stale are new and fresh here. (Truckin as a set opener!} Pigpen is in fine form and the interplay between Garcia , Weir and Lesh has rarely sounded better. A great variety of songs and highlights on every CD. 5 Hours of music for 25 bucks. Outstanding in every way.
Free Music Review: America's Classic Jam Band Rocks The House. Hit: 5 Stars
Hello fellow Deadheads, many of you have read the reviews slamming these truely grat shows and picking them apart, not me.
This is a great collection of music that will be an asset to any collection. Pigpen is awsome here folks and really stands out as the powerful member of the the band that he was. Bottom line: this is a must have for any true Deadhead. I love this CD and the great snapshot of history that shines through here.
"May the skin of your ass never cover a banjo" Keep Jammin.
