Free Music Notes for The Golden Road (1965 - 1973)

Free Music Review: Marvelous!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

As a veteran of many many shows from 1976 until the sad bitter end, I find a good amount of joy contained in this large black box. Living a "Workingmans" lifestyle in the rural California Central Coast area helped me forge a strong connection with the philosophy of the Dead. My old vinyl is long gone, most of my cassettes, and CDs passed on to my grown boys, these compilations (Along with "Beyond Description", and Jerrys' own "All Good Things"), take me back on my personal, "Long Strange Trip". For me it's much more than the simple music...It's the remembering of my own friends embodying "Jack Straw, "Black Peter", and "Sugar Magnolia". I've had my own "High Time", and "Good Love". I also know the sting of "Looks like Rain", and "Me & Bobbie McGee". In some odd way this music has become "The Attics of My Life". Merrily I move along, looking for yet another adventure in my life. This is what the Dead was all about.

Hit: 5 Stars

Amazing 12-cd set.Great for any starter interested in the Grateful Dead or any DeadHead lookin to expand to their collection without having to pay $13.00 an album at Best Buy. Great History Lessons on the start up until the finish with their Warner Bros. Days. Every Album is a must have and to get over 154 songs for less than a dollar each, you cant go wrong with this box set. The Live Albums are the best and I couldnt purchase The Golden Road without Beyond Description Box set. totally kicks butt- which by the way i waited about a year and a half to purchase that box set. Its nice to have all there studio albums & start out as a freshie when it comes to the history of great american music.

Great reading material, discography, music& old school pics of the dead in their early days. Couldnt ask for a better box set really.

Free Music Review: I realize why people are Dead Heads
Hit: 5 Stars

Ive never really listened to Greatful Dead before, but i've heard a few songs here and there. I recently bought both box sets for real cheap, and suddenly released why they are/were followed by millions. They play amazing, probably some of the playing ive ever heard. I heard that the studio albums arent great, but I cant understand why people think that. The live cds were kinda weird, because they sounded like they were recorded in a stuido. I just began to listen to the Dead, so maybe i'm missing the point. Still an amazing boxset, for the price, its a literal steal. The cds are all over 70 minutes, and some of the best music you'll ever experince. Go out and become a dead head today, even though they are long gone-the music will always live on.

Free Music Review: There best years where 1965 -69 this is a great box set !!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of Psychedelic Music of the late 60s. So that being said you know where I am coming from. I am also not a country / folk fan. I'm a Rock & Roll Fan. So that being said I love the Dead from 1965 to 1969 and after that its hit and or miss.
I like some of there later songs and some of there live jams.
This is an Awesome !!! CD if you are into 60s Psych music.
I consider this the Deads best Album right with Aoxomoxoa then Anthem of the Sun then Live Dead in that order there best four Albums.
My reaction to Workingman's Dead and American Beauty (Both great Albums if you like that type of music) is this a Rock band? Where are the electric Guitars?
Sorry I love the Deads early Rock Music.

Free Music Review: Packed to the Hilt
Hit: 5 Stars

10 of the 12 CDs here exceed 79 minutes in length! Each digipak contains a 15-page booklet with notes and pictures that are specific to that album. The 16th page is glued to the inside cover of the digipak. Two of the digipaks are trifolds for 2CD sets, so there are 10 digipaks total. They are seated in two stacks with ribbons to facilitate removal from the box. The 80-page (not 75 as stated in the Amazon review) booklet rests on top. The dimensions are 11.5 x 6.5 x 2.5" deep. Overall, a class-act presentation. What about the music? Well, I'm a newbie so I'll leave that to the others. In any case, if you're looking to get a Grateful Dead collection in one fell swoop, I say go for it and pick this up.
