Free Music Notes for Bullet In A Bible (CD/DVD)Free Music Review: A Spectacular Performance! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not an oldie Sweet Children fan, but I'm not an American Idiot newbie ether. I started listening to Green Day when I was ten, when I believe Warning came out. I than started storing and stashing all the Green Day Cds, from Dookie to Warning into my crappy cd player and playing the cds over and over again, memorizing the songs and singing them to my heart. Than I moved on, that is, till Green Day's American Idiot Album came out and hit stores with a BANG! I listened to the cd, found it nice and very catchy, like a lot of Green Day albums, but with a different new flavor. Green Day jumped past its Warning and Nimrod to a whole new level, and everybody in the world took notice.
As we all know, Green Day had evolved from being Sweet Children, punky little kids whom played at "86," and belonged to Lookout! Records and than went over to Reprise Records. The majority of punk bands turned their backs on Green Day, dubbing them as sell outs, ect... Green Day became popular with their first hit album, Dookie, which was phenomenal and than kicked out some new albums and slowly, bit by bit, went downhill out of the eyes of pop punk music fans till American Idiot boosted them into the spotlight they had achieved with Dookie again.
Bullet In A Bible is a nice CD to add to your Green Day collection. The live music is nice and crisp, and the live DVD concert in England was awesome. I particularly liked the interviews in-between each performance and laughed at all the brits being interviewed. They played songs from their newest album American Idiot, and than played some of there old treasures that brought back memories, particular the awesome Minority and Longview! My favorite would have to be Shout! which I play over and over again till you would I think I would be tired of it. Billie Joe Armstrong's voice and his performance on stage was great, they are really good at what they do, especially the hyper active, crazy Tre Cool on the drums and the mellow, cool Mike Dirnt on the base guitar and vocals. I think Green Day will go down in history as the greatest Pop Punk band, smashing out the silly duplicates of Blink 182 as well as the other Pop Punk bands that sprang up after Green Day to claim there "15 minutes," of fame.
So if you didn't get to go to their big concert in England, go to the store or order Bullet In A Bible! You won't be disappointed, I sure wasn't, and lets give Green Day a round of applause and cheer for their newest album that is coming out later this year!
Free Music Review: Great live show from a great band!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great live show to watch, Green day are amazing live and i have been lucky to see them in March and lucky this came out b4 they return to Melbourne in dec which i already have my ticket for!
I loved how they mixed in the doco after each song, made it different then any other live DVD i own! By far the best band live, along with Disturbed!
There is only ONE small problem with it tho.... i have been a long time Green Day fan so i have seen and heard many of their songs live, since this is an "American idiot" tour i would have loved for this concert to have been the complete album of American idiot then followed up by their classics... Green Day have 8 cds ( if you include the best of which as 2 new tracks on it) so there is too many to choose from to satisfy every hardcore Green Day fan like me, ( like 2000 Light years away, welcome to paradise, waiting , poprocks and coke, and so on...)but im sure everyone would have been pumped for it to have the entire set of Idiot's cd since it is Green Day's crown jewel... yes everyone it IS better then Kerplunk and Dookie... well JUST better then Kerplunk :) funny thing is this was the same set list for the show i saw in March this year, didnt make it any less special tho, brought back great memories if anything :)
oh another small thing too,,, why did they cut "knowledge" outta the DVD, if it was the same as my concert i saw they would have got 3 ppl up on stage to play their instruments which was really good to see the band interact with their fans!
So this is a must for any Green Day fan, even the new teenie boppers who might not know songs like "Longview" and Basket case" :)
And Borgy, i know your a fellow Aussie mate but you sure you aint got no English in you? you cried a fair bit there mate, if your smart you would notice the doco parts (which made the DVD AWESOME!) are at the END of a song... yes thats right... so on DVD you can skip them and it will take none of your precious energy away and you can be happy coz you can make it like it is complete song after song, did you even think of that or was it too much effort..? So don't have a spaz about something that isn't a problem !!
Whoops lost my train of thought :)
if your like me and love Green Day... you will LOVE this! A great cd/dvd for any Green Day fan!! i know i wont be getting sick of it anytime soon :) will be great for the lead up to the concert which is a month away! :D
Free Music Review: Energizing performance, great rock/punk music Hit: 5 Stars
For someone who grew up with rock music, was a child in the 60s, a teen and young adult in the 70s, and witnessed the early stages of punk, also in the 70s, this album/DVD came as something of a revelation. Although I've been more or less out of the loop in terms of both rock and punk for some years, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this disc--a "greatest hits" compilation leaning heavily on the "American Idiot" album--and watching the concert DVD. The songs belong to my daughter's generation, but geriatric as I am, I think the music is excellent, and the lyrics pretty intelligent, sometimes even searing. The DVD is fun to watch, too; the frenetic editing and choppy visuals don't really bother me.
I gather that some of the concert was cut from both disc and and film, but what is presented is very fine. The band, with two back up musicians, launch themselves into the American Idiot rock opera with a vengeance (complete with political commentary), and some older, vintage Green Day songs, like "Basket Case," and the mega-hit "Good Riddance," to the immense enthusiasm of the huge Brit crowd at the Milton Keynes National Bowl. Selections highlight the versatility of the group, which can belt out punk lyrics of anger and alienation, hard-hitting rock numbers, or melancholy ballads like "Wake Me Up When September Ends," without missing a beat. All three musicians seem powered up and at the top of their game, and Billie Joe Armstrong, an energizer bunny if there ever was one, keeps the energy level high from start to finish with his remarkable voice (a flexible tenor with an occasional, pleasing quaver) and onstage antics.
To add to all of this, the members of Green Day--baby faced, green eyed Billie Joe, the lean, intense Mike Dirnt, affable Tre Cool with his inimitable clowning--have an undeniable visual appeal than comes across well in the concert DVD, as it has in their videos (viewable on the Green Day website).
Free Music Review: Pretty Nice Work Hit: 5 Stars
Personally, I think Bullet In A Bible was done well. Sam Bayer did a great job in shooting the concert, capturing some magical up-close shots, making a viewer feel as if they were on the stage with the band. I liked the interviews as well. There were some bits that I had a problem with, thus making it a 4 star rating. Sometimes, all of the jumbled angles, like zooming to Billie Joe's eye, then back, was hard to keep up with. Having some parts in black and white didn't really work for me. I know it was supposed to add an effect, but I felt all color would've been better. I really enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes look at Green Day. There were really hilarious parts (the Tre Cool Montage and Billie Joe doing a really funny Rocky impersonation), and really beautiful moments, like Mike calling Tre a little catalyst, and many others. I felt there was an equal and balanced portrayal of humor and seriousness. It worked. We got to see Green Day in a different light. I was upset that the FULL concert wasn't on the DVD/CD. They cut songs such as Homecoming, She, Maria, Jaded, and perhaps one of the most important events during recent Green Day shows, calling up three audience members to form a band and play Operation Ivy's Knowledge. I've been to two Green Day shows, and this part of the show is really exciting and interesting. It should've been included. Also, some speaking Billie Joe incorporated in between songs weren't on the CD, like the moaning bit during Hitchin' A Ride, and introducing all of the musicians, giving a humorous summary of each member. The length of the DVD wasn't disappointing. I had read a review somewhere that it was only 115 minutes, but it's over two hours. All in all, I'd say any Green Day fan should get this amazing CD/DVD package. Plus, the price isn't that bad, considering. I say, go for it!
Free Music Review: AMAZING! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD/DVD is absolutely amazing. I am a fan of Green Day's old stuff and its new stuff. This CD/DVD ties it all together every performance on this album is great:
1. American Idiot 3.5/5 Great opener!
2. Jesus of Suburbia 5/5 Perfect rendition of the 9 minute song. Each minute is better than the last.
3. Holiday 4/5 This is a song that is much better live than the slbum version
4. Are We The Waiting 4/5 Great American idiot Song
5. St. Jimmy 4/5 See Are We The Waiting
6. Longview 4.5/5 Awesome!
7. Hitchin' A Ride 4/5 Goes together with Brain Stew well.
8. Brain Stew 4/5 Goes together with Hitchin' A Ride well.
9. Basket Case 3/5 Not as good as rest of CD/DVD
10. King For A Day/Shout 5/5 Need to see the DVD for a great performance.
11. Wake Me Up When September Ends 5/5 Best performance on the CD/DVD. I get choked up every time I listen to this song.
12. Minority 4.5/5 (5/5 on DVD) Performance is better on DVD. The CD is missing the guitar and harmonica solos that the DVD has.
13. Boulevard of Broken Dreams 4/5 Great song.
14. Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) 4.5/5 Great closer, but I wanted a better closer, something a bit heavier.
The DVD 5/5 Has parts of the concert the CD does not have. It is also cool to see what goes into a Green Day Concert. Great sound and picture qualtiy.
Overall, this is a must own CD/DVD for any Green Day or punk rock fan. Green Day continues to change punk history, and their first live CD/DVD truly shows this. This is the only album I have been listening to for the last couple of weeks. When you listen to it, you will be hooked!
