Free Music Notes for Nimrod

Free Music Review: Those snotty Berkely kids are at it again!
Hit: 5 Stars

OK, before I start my review, I want to say to the masses that GREEN DAY IS NOT ALTERNATIVE! Green Day is Pop-Punk. Alternative was just an uncreative label to put on new music after grunge faded out. Now that that's off my chest, I guess I'll start my review.

Nimrod is one hell of a piece of work. It has a few cool pop-punk songs here, and a few softer songs there. For an example of a soft song, there's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." I'm a big Green Day fan and everything, but I have to put my food down of this one. It's boring, monotonous (the same all the way through, for those of you that are'nt playing with a full deck), and pretty much pointless. The other soft songs are pulled off pretty well, but in my mind, the songs that kick the most are the fast ones. These songs are possessing, to say the least. When you hear "Platypus (I Hate You)," or "Take Back," you can't help the urges you get to punch things until you get carpal-tunnel syndrome and your knuckles bleed. The other songs are your usual pop-punk, middle-finger-in-the-air style we've come to expect from Green Day

So the next time you go to your local record store, pick up a copy of this gem. You'll thank me greatly for helping you choose such a good CD.

Free Music Review: Stretching the limits of punk rock
Hit: 5 Stars

Nimrod is one of Green Day's most experimental albums, next to if not surpassing the diversity of Warning. On this album, Green Day retains the raw punk sound that made them stars with Dookie back in '94, but they also blend in the heavier sound present on Insomniac, and a good diversity of love songs, breakneck metal, ska-ish punk and ballads. There is plenty of punk humor on this album, but at the same time you can see that the group is really maturing. "Nice Guys Finish Last" is a wonderfully fast paced first song, and it goes straight into the more grungelike "Hitchin' a Ride" and the hilarious "The Grouch." Other highlights include "Last Ride In," a great, moody instrumental that shows off Green Days excellent musical talents, the hilarious, horn driven track "King For A Day," and the unforgettable ballad "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." I have never grown tired of this album, you can put it in and find a good song no matter what kind of mood you are in. If you are a Green Day fan and don't already own this album, I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. If you already own and like it, I suggest you check out Nirvana and Weezer, both great grunge-punk bands.

Free Music Review: Whoa, I'm in shock!!
Hit: 5 Stars

OK, Green Day's "American Idiot" has been really popular here. I didnt know much about Green Day until about 6 months ago. I decided to check out some of their older albums. (I hate just listening to a bands newest album before seeing how they were before it.) Since I really liked the song "Good Riddance" and "Redundant" I decided to get Nimrod. I was shocked how awesome this CD is! Infact, I got addicted to it and still listen to it atleast once a day.

I'd do a song by song review but I love ever single song on this album. Even though "Last Ride In" doesnt have any words, the music is so great I dont even skip the song when listening to Nimrod. Some of my favorites are "Hitchin a Ride", "The Grouch", "Redundant", "Uptight".. OK OK I'm going to stop before I end up naming all the songs on this album! Since I got Nimrod Ive been so f***ing happy I could cry. ;) The lyrics are funny and the beat is catchy and exciting. This album is so much fun to listen to. It will make you want to turn the volume up all the way and start singing along.

Alright, you're probably falling asleep on the keyboard from listening to me blab on about this CD, so Ill say just one more thing. Get it!!!!!!!!! You won't be sorry. :)

Free Music Review: Diversity is the spice of music, even with Green Day!
Hit: 5 Stars

Some bands have become successful by sticking to one formula and using it with each album, because they have a certain sound you can never really tire of. Green Day is essentially one of those bands, but on "Nimrod" they really show how great they can sound by spicing up their songs with different sounds.
Of course we have timeless Green Day anthems like "Nice Guys Finish Last", "The Grouch" and "Prosthetic Head", but then we get to other great songs on the album. There's a cool little violin intro on "Hitchin' A Ride" which is a super-sexy swinging anthem about drinking. Then we have the classic, acoustic ballad of "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)". Nothing really needs to be said about that song because basically everybody knows it. But THEN we get a real treat, the instrumental, hypnotic, three-minute "Last Ride In". It's got such a late-night, relaxed California sound to it, it's dazzling.
Well that's basically a brief run-through of some of the songs. Honestly, all the songs on here are really good and I definitely recommend getting this album for more great Green Day. Plus, it'll give you a chance to hear how they can experiment and still maintain their classic sound. Thanks for the time, and peace!

Free Music Review: LISTEN UP PEOPLE THIS IS IMPORTANT
Hit: 5 Stars

All right, i suppose i better write a review for this before i say what i want to. This cd rocks, so don't dis it. Yes, greenday has softened, but only musicly not lyricly. It is still punk, and just cause it's different dosen't mean it's not good, it ROCKS. especialy hitchin a ride. and time of your life is SO cool. It is beautiful while being sarcastic. And i totaly agree that the misteps are intentional. Ok now i will get to the real point of this. It has come to my attention the people believe King For A Day is ska. IF YOU SAY THAT TO ANY SKA FAN THEY'LL KILL YOU! SKA DOES NOT EQUAL HORNS, HORNS DO NOT EQUAL SKA! it has nothing even remotely RESEMBLING a ska beat at ALL. Horns have only come into ska very recently, and i hate it when people hear horns and go, oh it's ska. IT's NOT! it's just like people who thing modern swing is ska. GET REAL PEOPLE! The horns in nimrod are only there to make it sound goofy, not SKA! Once again, it has no ska rythym. so all you people who just fling the word 'ska' around like you know everything, when you actualy have no clue and sound stupid, WAKE UP! By the way it is a great album as i said go buy it.
