Free Music Review: B-Sides? More like potential hits!
Hit: 5 Stars

If someone were to give me this CD and tell me that it was Green Day's greatest hits collection, I'd probably believe them. A lot of these songs are good enough to be potential hits, or the song that a one-hit wonder band is famous for, but Green Day has raised such a high bar for themselves (as you can hear when you listen to American Idiot, the greatest album of the year in any genre) that these songs are simply not cut out for their albums. But that doesn't mean that they aren't any good.

The B-Sides on Shenanigans range from Dookie to Warning, and include several covers, such as their brilliant rendition of The Ramones' "Outsider", the Kinks "Tired Of Waiting For You" and "I Wanna Be On TV", a song that was originally done by the hardcore 80's band "Fang". It's fun to try and guess which songs came from which era, and you can usually tell by the instrumental style and the way Billie Joe's voice sounds- for example, "Desensitized" and "You Lied" sound like they could have been on Nimrod, and "Do Da Da" and "Scumbag" sound like they came right off Insomnaic.

My personal favorite tracks are Desensitized, You Lied, On The Wagon, Rotting, Suffocate, Outsider, Tired of Waiting For You, and Espionage, an instrumental that appeared in one of the Austin Powers movies...however, Ha Ha You're Dead is probably the most brilliant B-side they've ever done. Combining classic Green Day humor with killer instrumentals, this song really ends the album with a bang.

Shenanigans came out in 2002, around a time when Green Day was contemplating retirement from the music world for good. (I'm very glad they didn't, though...otherwise we wouldn't have American Idiot, Bullet In A Bible, or the album that they're currently working on.) The booklet's got a nice little collage of Green Day's career, with pictures taken around the Nimrod, Insomniac, Dookie, and Warning eras. There's also some nice pictures of the guys in the inside, all smiling and having a good time. And, for those of you who are interested, it's the last album in which Billie Joe has blonde hair.

Well, Billie, Mike, and Tre have done it again. When a band's B-Sides are amazing, you know that the group is absolutely exceptional.

Free Music Review: Shenanigans!
Hit: 5 Stars

This just has to be the greatest B-Sides and Rarities compilation ever. Because most of the time when I get a b-sides album there are usually a few weak tracks. But this album is void of weakness.

Some things that I WAS disapointed in was it didn't include all of their b-sides. They took "DUI" off and put it on the UK release only, they didn't put "The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink" on there, even though it's only 30 seconds long, it is still a great song. They also didn't put the original version of "Good Riddance" that was a b-side on the "Brain Stew/Jaded" single. Well, even with that said, it was a great album. It was just too short and could have had 3 more songs on it.

1.)Suffocate: 5/5.
2.)Desensitized: 5/5. This song was originally supposed to appear on the South Park:Chef Aid album, but for some reason never made it.
3.)You Lied: 5/5.
4.)Outsider: 4/5. Not my favorite Ramone's song, not my favorite cover.
5.)Don't Want To Fall In Love: 5/5.

6.)Espionage: 5/5. Originally used in the Austin Powers movie I guess, I wouldn't know, I never saw it. It sounds like 60's spy movie theme song.
7.)I Want To Be On TV: 5/5. Cover of the 80's hardcore band Fang. I love it even more than the original.
8.)Scumbag: 3/5. Poorly written lyrics, but a catchy song. I usually skip this one.
9.)Tired of Waiting For You: 4/5. I didn't like the Kink's version and I really don't like this one except for the fact the song is a Green Day song.
10.)Sick: 5/5.
11.)Rotting: 5/5. Dark and sort of monotonous. This is the song which started me into doom metal bands oddly enough.
12.)Do Da Da: 5/5.
13.)On The Wagon: 5/5.
14.)Ha Ha You're Dead: 5/5. More poorly written lyrics via Mike Dirnt, but this song is a winner. They better start playing this one at shows, this'll be another fan favorite like "King For A Day"

Free Music Review: Sweet!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is absolutely awesome. With the exception of 1 or 2 songs this CD contains songs such as Ha Ha Your Dead and Scumbag that are just amazing. Green Day has shown yet again that they're on top of their game. This CD is probably their 2nd or 3rd best, cause I mean come on what could have beatin' Nimrod, but that's besides the point cause this is a flat out bang your head can't stop listening kinda CD. Rock on Green Day! I'm gonna rate each song 1-5, 5 being the best.

1.Suffocate:Gotta love this song, which I do, I give it 5 out of 5.
2.Desensitized:Another great song! 4 out of 5.
3.You Lied:The beat to it and the vocals are so damn catchy. 5 out of 5.
4.Outsider:If you haven't seen The New Guy, you might as well see it just for this sweet song! 5 out of 5.
5.Don't Wanna Fall in Love:Not the best song on the CD, so sorry guys, but 3 out of 5.
6.Espionage:Normally instrumentals can be a little tedious, and this one is, but in an insanely awesome way! 5 out of 5.
7.I Want to be on T.V.:Great song to rock to. 4 out of 5.
8.Scumbag:Let's go American Pie, and let's go Green Day! 5 out of 5.
9.Tired of Waiting For You:A remake, but a great one! 5 out of 5.
10.Sick of Me:Pretty good. 4 out of 5.
11.Rotting:Another fairly....AWESOME song. 4 out of 5.
12.Do Da Da:Amazing! 4 out of 5.
13.On the Wagon:Great, simply great! 4 out of 5.
14.Ha Ha You're Dead:Tops this sweet CD off with a bang! This song if either the best or 2nd best on the whole CD, way to go Green Day! 5 out of 5.

This gives the CD a grand total of 62 out of 70. Or also in simple terms about 90%. 5 stars for this CD baby!

Free Music Review: Uber-Great 5 Stars

This Album is so unbelieveably cool. I'll give you the rundown:
Track 1 (Suffocate): A soothing, yet cool song. One of my faves
Track 2 (Desensitized): A heavy beginning. Turn up the bass for cool sound. Second only to "Basket Case" (on Dookie)
Track 3 (You Lied): A relatively slow song for them. Not on my Top Ten List.
Track 4 (Outsider): A Great song. The story of my life. Nice pace, beat, notes, lyrics.
Track 5 (Don't wanna Fall in Love): My least favorite song. Words are ok, but the notes make it sound like country. Ewwwww.
Track 6 (Espionage): The only non-lyrical song on the album, it still kicks.
Track 7 (I wanna be on TV): Great tune. It's just too Short.
Track 8 (Scumbag): Great song, easy to sing.
Track 9 (Tired of Waiting for you): Just OK
Track 10 (Sick of me): So cool, so easy to remember. Go on, dance. You know you want to.
Track 11 (Rotting): Cool, but a little too depressing.
Track 12 (Do Da Da): cool, smooth, great guitars. Major props.
Track 13 (On the Wagon): Same as Track 5. Ewwww. Country
Track 14 (Ha ha you're dead): Oh yeah. This rocks. Need I say more?
Well, thats it. To those who like it, Rock on. To those who never heard it, take a walk on the wild side. This is the gateway of CDs (It is a gateway to punk rock and heavy metal)
To those who hate it, "When you're ship is going down, I'll swim by and watch you drown. Haha you're dead, Haha you're dead, Haha you're dead."
Thank you

P.S. If you hate me for my review, get a quarter and call someone who cares.
