Free Music Notes for ShenanigansFree Music Review: Great collection of Green Day rarities Hit: 5 Stars
"Shenanigans" collects 14 Green Day rarities, B-sides and covers, and is able to put them all together in under 34 minutes. Yes this is a short album, but it's another awesome burst of Green Day, and the fact that I picked it up for all of 7 dollars gives me no reason to complain.
Among these songs as the fast-paced, country-influenced and quite funny "Don't Wann Fall In Love", the instrumental "Espionage" which could very well be the theme to a spy show on TV, the loud, in-your-face "I Wanna Be On TV" which is reminiscent of classic Ramones and Sex Pistols, and a cover of both the Ramones "Outsider", and the Kinks' "Tired Of Waiting For You", both of which are great covers.
Well, there's not much else to say here, the music is great and inside the booklet we get more amusing pictures of the band in their...well, shenanigans! Be sure to pick this up if you want more great Green Day. Thanks for the time, and peace.
Free Music Review: Good for all, but one bad point Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, this cd is great. It has some of my favorite Green Day songs on it, such as Do Da Da and Desensitized. The melodies of the verse in Do Da Da and the chorus of Desensitized are amazing. I know all of the songs on this cd by heart (except for Ha Ha you're dead), and I don't even own it yet. That brings up my next point. The release of all the rare songs takes away my bragging rights that I know how to play (on guitar) Green Day songs that the average Green Day fan has never heard. That was what distiguished hardcore Green Day fans from average fans in the past. But it doesn't really matter, I just thought I'd bring it up. Buy this cd if you respect Green Day for their music, not for their popularity, because you probably won't enjoy it if the only Green Day song you've heard is Minority or something.
Free Music Review: Very good B-side album Hit: 5 Stars
This isn't an original album, but an album of 14 b-sides and covers. It features good covers of Outsider by the Ramones and Tired of Waiting For You by The Kinks, among others. The Green Day songs on this album are great too, starting off with the very catchy and fast "Suffocate" all the way to Mike Dirnt's catchy, but in the meantime punky "Ha Ha You're Dead". Espionage is an interesting track as well, which I assume was from the Nimrod era since they did a similar instrumental song on Nimrod (Last Ride In). Other strong tracks include Desensitized, I Want To Be On T.V, Scumbag, and Do Da Da (which was originally supposed to be called Stuck With Me but they made a mistake and called the song on Insomniac Stuck With Me instead).
All-in-all it's a must have. It's up there with Green Day's first 2 releases.
Free Music Review: This is their Best! Hit: 5 Stars
Didn't think it could get any better than their Greatest Hits album, but I was wrong. They call this a B-Side album, HA! These "B-side" songs are much better than any of their songs they have released on previous albums. This is the CD to get. They are not sell-outs, these hardcore punkers can't stand the fact that the preppy girls and the in-crowd kids were carrying around Green Day Cds. That's there phylosophy, if the popular people like them, then they must be sell-outs. There is no substitute for good music, and Green Day produces some mighty fine music. Un-Written Law, Eve 6, The Offspring, and American Hi-Fi are sell out groups, but Green Day is not. They are punk and always will be, but keep in mind there are much better punk bands out there like Rancid, Propagandghi, and The Vandals.
Free Music Review: Green Day is no sell out Hit: 5 Stars
People compare this album to cds of the pre-dookie phase such as kerplunk! and complain that Green Day became sell outs just because their music is now appreciated by a larger crowd and their style is not as raw as before. I'm not putting 1039/smoothed out slappy hours or kerplunk down, I love those cds, but just because the style isnt the same doesn't mean Green Day still doesn't kick. Sick of me, Scumbag, and Suffocate are my favorite tracks on the cd. Green Day surprised me with songs like Tired of Waiting, even tho it's a cover. Billie Joe's voice really has gotten better and he proves it with songs like Rotting and Tired of Waiting. Anyone would love this album, Green Day fan or not, but I think Green Day fans will better appreciate Shenanigans.
