Free Music Review: Green Day's best work since Dookie!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD the day after it was released because I've been waiting for this to come out for years. I think this is the second best peice of work by Green Day since Dookie which was released back in 1994. Now I'll share my oppinion on each of the twelve tracks on Warning. The first, called Warning, is a song that has a similar flow to "Nice Guys Finish Last" which is on Nimrod. Some good lines it has are, "Or shut up and be a victim of authority" and "Is it the cop or am I the one who's really dangerous." This song is okay. The next song is very similar to "Hitchin' A Ride" on Nimrod. It's a great song dealing with pity for a guy who's, "bound and gagged to a chair." The chorus on that song is exceptional. "Church on Sunday" and "Fashion Victim" are two good songs too. They're a little bit different though. "Castaway" has a sound to it that you'd find on any song on Insominac and deals with a loner trying to fit in. Its like a mixture between "Stuck With Me" and "Geek Stink Breath." Now "Misery", which is the sixth track on Warning, is the strangest song I've ever heard from Green Day. It sounds like a song Slim Shady or anyone in the pop business would do. This song deals with peoples' struggles and failures. "Deadbeat Holiday" is a song with a strange message I haven't figured out yet. "Hold On" is a song written by Billie Joe about a friend who had several loved ones die in a year. This song has a great beat to it and an excellent use of metaphors and rhyming (like ear and presevere). The next song sounds like something out of Dookie, Especially the song "Safarassas Roots." Waiting is an excellent song about waiting for "the moment" to come along. Track 11, "Minority," is the best fast song on the whole alblum. This song is one of those songs you'll have stuck in your head for weeks. The good thing about this is that it's a good song. It deals with others forcing their beliefs on you and not being trendy. The last song, "Macy's Day Parade", is the best song on the CD. Similar to Nimrod's "Good Riddance(Time of your life)" it has a very possitive way of looking for "a brand new hope." This song will definately touch your sensitive side with a light of hope which was described by the band before Warning came out. It's the first time Green Day has had a song with this message to it. I believe that you'll enjoy this record more than I do. I usually listen to it once or twice a day, and it never gets old. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did and embrace it's melodies and hidden strategems.

Free Music Review: This is a public service anouncment, this is only a test...
Hit: 5 Stars

By far Green Day's most unfairly received album, and by far their best. American Idiot is a great listen, and it is a great album, but there is only so much of it that you can take (well at least that is the case for me). This cd is by and large Green Day at their most revealing and honest. It seems with this cd, the guys faced the fact that they were grown men, and so they decided to get rid of the youthful punk attitude, and play music that cannot be restricted to a label. One could call this music an example of folk-rock, but the album the rocks too hard for that. One could also say that it's a rock cd, but it doesn't rock hard enough for that either. I consider this music to just be what it is, Green Day. This is music that is the result of fearlessness and just not giving a damn what the mainstream thinks. And unsurprisingly, it's Green Day's lowest selling album yet.

The main influence on this music is crystal clear, Bob Dylan. Billie Joe's lyrics take on societal issues similarly to the way that Dylan hit the world like a slap on the face back in the early sixties with his protest songs like "Masters Of War" and "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carol". This is seen in slams against the establishment like "Warning" and "Minority", and also in the slice-of-life "Macy's Day Parade". Billie even gives a nod to Bob with a harmonica solo in "Hold On". Yet Billie and gang still retain that same energy that drove them on their punk masterstroke Dookie, as seen in the songs "Jackass" "Church On Sunday", and "Deadbeat Holiday".

The album seems to critique the main issues of society as seen from the perspective of the twentysomething working man, fresh out of wild partying and studying at college or university, practically having to beg, borrow, or steal to pay the bills, let alone having a social life. It's the little things in life that are the focus of these people, from trying to hold a relationship in "Church On Sunday", being a tool for the mainstream culture in "Fashion Victim", the loneliness of a work all day, sleep all night life in "Castaway", and the boring mundane of life as they know it in "Misery".

This cd is all about the little things, and so, an equally subtle sound is given to it to enhance the feelings portrayed in the music. It may take you a few listens to appreciate this one, as it did for me, but once you see it for what it is, than you'll definitely come back to it again and again. With this cd, Green Day move from teenage angst and pure uncontrollable attitude, to the hard, mundane day to day life of a young adult overloaded with responsibility and bills to pay, and just trying to get by, living without warning.

Free Music Review: Green Day's Rebirth
Hit: 5 Stars

As I said in the title Warning is Green Day's rebirth. No longer are they the punk band that recorded classic albums such as 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Dookie but now they are adults with messages. Don't get me wrong this album still features their tongue in cheek lyrics and their views of society but musically they have matured. Adobting a more acoustic orientated sound. Whereas electric guitar was once the dominant force in their music now it's just a backing instrument. The album opens with their current single Warning. This song does a good job prepearing the listener for what's in store. The next song Blood, Sex, and Booze is electric but it is very mellow. Just because the album is acoustic doesn't mean that it is slow and boring, in fact warning is the exact opposite. Church On Sunday in my opinion is one of their best songs ever and proof of my point. It is very upbeat and Billie Joe's voice is great on it. Fashion Victim and Castaway are very musically similar in the sense that they are both electric. But just because they are electric doesn't mean that they are punk. As a matter of fact ther's not a trace of punk to be found on this album. The next song Misery threw myself and many other Green Day fans for a loop. It is more different than any song they ever did. The use of odd instruments combined with Billie Joe's excellent vocals make this song one of the best on the album. The lyrics on this song are also really great. Deadbeat Holiday is another upbeat primarily acoustic song. It is also really good. Just because Green Day changed their sound doesn't meant that they lost their edge. Hold On is another amazing song. It begins with acoustic guitar and harmonica. That theme stays throughout the whole song. If any song can be compared to any older Green Day it is Jackass. It sounds like it could have been on Nimrod, which was also an amazing album. Waiting is an excellent song done mainly on clean tone electric guitar. This is probably the weakest song on the album. The first single Minority is next. This song is also amazing. Green Day proved with this song that they are still the kinds of pop punk. It is upbeat, and electric with acoustic overtones. The lyrics are amazing and Billie's voice rocks. The last song Macy's Day Parade is an attempt to recreate their number two hit Good Riddance (Time of your Life) off Nimrod. While this song is good it can't hold a candle to Good Riddance. Warning is a great release. It shows that Green Day is more than a punk band. Though they are not the most techincally skilled musicians they still play with great passion and besides that they write great songs.

Free Music Review: The Final Step in the "Green Day Holy Trinity"
Hit: 5 Stars

This, Dookie, and Insomniac are what I like to call "The Holy Green Day Trinity" because they are my favorite (and therefore the best) Green Day records. Warning reminds me of "Road to Ruin" era Ramones mixed with "Give 'Em Enough Rope"/"London Calling" era Clash. It's just brilliant. It's like all of the catchy-ness of Dookie, the great punk rock lyrics of Insomniac, mixed with it's own sense of style. Although a much more laid back album than Dookie and Insomniac, it still maintains this sense of punk rock sneer that gives it so much character. Let's do a run through of the songs real quick.

1. Warning - Proof that acoustic guitars can still rock just as well as electric. This song just gives the message to live your life and stop worrying about all the rules society gives you to obey.
2. Blood, Sex and Booze - An almost rockabilly-esque song about a sadist/masochistic lifestyle.
3. Church on Sunday - Taking us back to the songwriting style of early Green Day, this basically comes from the perspective of a guy telling a girl that he likes that he'll do anything if she'll be with him. (Ramones - I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, anyone?)
4. Fashion Victim - I love this song. A driving punk rock fist pumping song about life style obsession and materialism. Reminds me of early Clash.
5. Castaway - A catchy song about being a social outcast and liking it that way.
6. Misery - Is this really Green Day? A great experimental song (featuring Tre Cool on Farfisa, hey!), telling a great story about several characters all interlocked with each other in some coincidental way. Great songwriting.
7. Deadbeat Holiday - Absolutely my favorite song on the album. Foot-stomping pop-punk featuring great lyrics about being an outcast by definition but still holding true to yourself.
8. Hold On - A driving beat, more acoustics, and a great song about being down on your luck, but holding on to your values anyway.
9. Jackass - (See "Chump" from "Dookie)
10. Waiting - One of the radio singles. A great song about kind of starting something anew and the sense of hope that comes with it.
11. Minority - Punk Rock Anthem. Main point: I pledge Allegience to the underworld, one nation under dog there of which i stand alone. A great anthemic sing-along song.
12. Macy's Day Parade - Kind of a downbeat way to end the record. Not a bad song, but i've never really been able to get into it.So in conclusion, this record is fantastic. If you don't own it you're a crazy cracker fool. For shame, For shame. Buy it now buddy, it's gonna be okay.

Free Music Review: I'll break it down song by song
Hit: 5 Stars

Warning- This is a very fitting opening song. The track warning really shows how different the cd is. After the chorus in this song you can hear a siren going off. There's a first for everything. 3/5

Blood Sex and Booze- The best song on the cd. If you like Hitchin' a Ride(Nimrod), you will love this song. A very nice beat. 5/5

Church on Sunday- This is the most popish song on the cd, but still with a green day/punkrock touch. Its a pretty good song, but not my favorite on the cd. 4/5

Fashion Victim- A good song. It has a swing type feel to it. A very catchy rhythm. The lyrics make a lot of sense. "He's a victim of his own time, in his vintage suit and tie" "What's in a name?". 5/5

Castaway- A very good song, good beat. 5/5

Misery- Similar to Last Ride In from the album Nirmod, in that they try to do a song from a different culture. Last Ride in doing a Hawaiin song. Misery, an italian type song. This is the most different song on the cd by far. This song made me miss the Dookie days the most. Green Day trys too hard to do something different here. Not a very good song. 2/5

Deadbeat Holiday- This song sounds like it could have been off of Nimrod. When you hear this song you will probably agree. Good song. 4/5

Hold On- An intro with a harmonica, a swingish beat, Todo, I don't think we're in Dookie anymore. If you like change, you will like this song, as well as every other song on this cd. I happen to think this song is just ok 3.5/5

Jackass- These lyrics are not like most of the lyrics off of this album. Most of the lyrics are very optimistic and positive, in this song Billie Joe sings about that person who is annoying and how they are a waste of time to listen to. Good song. 5/5

Waiting- The most optimistic lyrics on the cd. This is one of my favorite songs on the cd. 5/5

Minority- If you have heard one song from Warning, this is the one. The opening sounds like a drunk Irish guy playing the acoustic gutiar. After the intro it breaks out into the most punkish song on the cd. Very good song. 5/5

Macy's Day Parade- A weaker version of Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). I would have liked to of seen a better closing song on the cd, but still it isn't a bad song, it just isn't a great song. 3.5/5

If your willing to let go of the Kerplunk, Dookie, and Insomniac days, you will love this cd. For those of you who are too die hard punk fans, and don't like anything a little differnt I don't recommend this cd for you. I loved it.
