Free Music Notes for Firefly (Original Television Soundtrack)Free Music Review: Wow. Hit: 5 Stars
I write this review while listening to the final track, and every one is awesome. Watching the show, it's easy to get caught up in the plot and characters, and perhaps not appreciate the music fully. Listening to it on its own, you realize it had just as much to do with how great each episode was. I'll echo others by saying that the only negative aspect of the CD is the brevity of the tracks. Some very sweet themes are played with, but because of the nature of TV scenes, they can never be adequately explored. Joss Whedon wrote every episode of Firefly as if it were the last, because he knew the sword could fall on their heads at any time, which it did. Edmonson obviously poured the same kind of frantic, heartfelt effort into each of his tracks, because every one is gem, whether it's wrenching, exhilarating, or just fun. Although very 'old-west' and instrumental, they never descend into corny bluegrass or cliche pseudo-celtic new age drivel. The implied Eastern influences are very tastefully done, very subtle and judiciously applied. One could put this disc on continuous playback and listen to it all day and not get sick of it. Buy it! Go Browncoats!

I've had this soundtrack for a while now. Ever since the Serenity soundtrack came out I had been circling the racks like a vulture hoping for the show to get it's due.
One of the most common complaint's is that these aren't the full musical pieces. And it's true, they're not. But they're like they were in the show. Unfortunately, because Firefly is getting old for a series, we probably won't get full versions until the 15th anniversary or something. Considering that they put out things like the Survivor TV-series soundtrack, I think we're lucky to get this.
The mixture of country or mountain music with more traditional sci-fi music is a unique and clever one, to be sure. I always liked how each piece of music was specifically designed for each character, including the ship, and how each piece moved seamlessly from one to the other. Very well done.
Even though it leaves me wanting more, I'm very happy they came out with a soundtrack for one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time.
Free Music Review: Firefly Hit: 5 Stars
First off, I am a huge fan of soundtrack music in general, so of course I loved this CD. When I was watching the show, I really liked the music in it, so I wanted to be able to listen to it whenever I wanted. One of my favorite things to do with soundtracks is to listen to a song, and then try to pick out where it came from, which episode or scene it was in, and then remember the scene if I can. Doesn't always work, but it's fun to do. This soundtrack has a lot of Asian inspired music along with twangy Western stuff, so I thought the mix of it was great.
If you remember in the show, the only two super powers left in the time that the show was supposed to be in were China and the US... which is why they sometimes spoke Chinese. I thought that the music they came up with was a wonderful accompaniment for the scenes playing out. I like this soundtrack so much that just thinking about it now makes me want to go listen to it again.
Free Music Review: For Firefly and music fans alike Hit: 5 Stars
Firefly has to be one of my favorite television shows. Part of what made it stand out to me so much was the music. The score for the tv show mixed a variety of different themes, from blugrass, to chinese, to techno. The music really gave the show an incredible atmosphere. So when I heard that the soundtrack for the show was going to released, I was incredibly excited. I am pleased to report that the music from the show holds up just as well alone. Although if you are familiar with the show, you will no doubt be transported back to your favorite moments. The only glaring ommision is "The Hero of Canton" from the episode Jaynestown. However, I find this ommision understandable (albeit dissapointing) as I am not sure if a clean version of the song was ever recorded. If you are a fan of Firefly this is a CD you don't want to miss. Even if you're not a fan, there is sure to be plenty here you can enjoy.
Free Music Review: I'm in love! Hit: 5 Stars
Greg Edmonson, I will always keep an eye out for your work after this! This soundtrack is just beautiful. For fans, it summons up all the feelings of warmth and home from the show. Like the lighting, the characters, and the dialogue, the music was such an integral part of what made the show great and the soundtrack brings it all back in a rush. If I had one complaint, it's that the pieces are so short. More! Track 6, the funeral will break and delight anyone's heart as do too many pieces to mention. For those who haven't seen the show, this mix of acoustic guitar, cello, violin and other instruments has a rich, well-developed, and sometimes moody feel that will make you wonder what was served with it: a truly pleasureable feast once you get over any initial resistance to the odd mix of western and science fiction.
