Free Music Notes for Grey Gardens: Original Broadway Cast RecordingFree Music Review: 'Grey Gardens' -- a musical gem Hit: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful collection of songs, sung with spirit and emotion by the principals in this very engaging Broadway musical. The intensity of Christine Ebersole's performance comes through in each of the tracks she sings. Throughout, the listener is drawn into the endearing eccentricities of the Beales. My favorite song is the wistful and melancholy "Another Winter in a Summer Town" movingly sung by Ms. Ebersole. This CD, like the show, is a gem!
Free Music Review: Fantastic score Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, what a wonderful score....now, does anyone else hear a distinct similarity between "The Five Fifteen" and another classic song? The rhythm of the main tune replicates that of Rodgers and Hart's "Everything I've Got" from BY JUPITER, and if you inverted a few of the notes you would have the other's melody. I wonder if this was an intentional reference by the composers or accidental?
Free Music Review: Incredible!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
If you've seen the documentary you might wonder how this could make a good musical. I know I did. It didn't make a good musical, it made a great one. And Christine Ebersole puts it over the top. This is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard and it was one of the best performances I've ever seen. This will go down as one of Broadway's best. You'll love it.
Free Music Review: One of the most amazing musicals!! Hit: 5 Stars
I saw this show on Broadway just before it closed...AMAZING!! Mary Louise and Christine give phenominal performances as well as the ensemble!!!! The music is amazingly well done and the lyrics are wonderfully written! If you know the story of the Beals you will love this musical!! It is addicting! Christine's transformation from Act 1 to Act 2 is amazing!
Free Music Review: Grey Gardens Hit: 5 Stars
I am familiar with the Maysles' Brothers' original documentary Grey Gardens. I saw a documentary on the making of the musical Grey Gardens, and realized I had missed the show on Broadway. I was so captivated by the music that I ordered the book of the play as well as this CD which I love, even though I have never seen the actual show. A tour de force!
