Free Music Review: Welcome to the Jungle
Hit: 5 Stars

Albums just don't get any bigger than this. Ever.

From W.Axl Rose's banshee wail introduction to "Welcome to the Jungle", through to the final notes of "Rocket Queen", this album takes listeners on a rollercoaster ride through the Gunners' sleazy world of heroin, whores, and hell raising. With this album, the band grabbed the 80s LA glam rock scene by the throat, and beat a 70s punk rock attitude into it. And the rock world just lapped it up.

This album invokes memories of drunken teenage parties, wild headbanging, and over-the-top air guitar solos.

Released in 1987, this album really took off in 1988 and 1989. It seemed rock fans were sick of the over-produced, polished pop-rock of Def Leppard and the pretty boy posing of Bon Jovi. Guns n Roses offered a harder edged alternative.

W. Axl Rose played the part of schizoid screw-loose frontman to perfection, equal parts tortured artist, runaway lost soul, and megalomaniac egotist. His vocal style was theatrical, yet hard edged. Just compare the wailing of "Sweet Child O' Mine" and the almost croaky drawl of "Mr Brownstone".

Slash, resplendent in a top hat and curly black mane which covered his eyes, let rip with his unique lead guitar style all over every track. His is no techno-guitar fest style, sacrificing feeling for the number of notes which can be jammed into a bar. The introduction to "Sweet Child O' Mine" remains one of the most memorable solos of all time.

And what of the rest of the band? Rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin' was always destined to live in Slash's shadow, yet he provided much of the grunt which separated this band from the pop pretenders. Drummer Steven Adler took the sex, drugs and rock n roll lifestyle too far, with drug addiction eventually seeing him out of the band. Duff McKagan was the big punk fan of the band, and the major musical contributor. His role in the band has always been under rated.

And the music? There are no bad songs on this album. "Paradise City" is a good times rocker, which builds in tempo to a maniacal crescendo. "You're Crazy", "Night Train" and "Welcome to the Jungle" are all straight forward rockers. "Anything Goes" is an ode to sleazy sex, while "My Michelle" is dedicated to wasted youth. "Sweet Child O' Mine" is a power ballad extraordinaire, featuring the band's best all-round performance, with heartfelt lyrics, sensitive vocals, and wailing guitar solos.

This was the defining album of an era. It was the peak performance of the LA glam rock scene. It was never bettered by this band nor any other from that scene.

Free Music Review: Appetite For Destruction: Destroys the '80's
Hit: 5 Stars

If there was ever a rock album that could describe a decade Guns N' Roses freshman release was it. Appetite For Destruction was the title of this album, and one thing was for sure, it destroyed everything in the '80's. No one was safe, not even the mighty Van Halen and Motley Crue.

This album hits you hard and it hits you fast, beginning with the first song. Welcome To The Jungle is by far the definition of Guns N' Roses. It had catchy lyrics, great guitar play, and of course the shrieking trade mark vocals of one Axl Rose. No let down occurs between the second song and the first as the great guitar of It's So Easy follows the shrieking of Axl Rose. Rose shows his talent on this track, showing that he can sing, and not just shriek. It too has catchy lyrics, and of course the rifts by Izzy Stradlin and Slash really make this track. At 3 is the next hit off this album. Night Train is the first showing off of the percussion skills of the then talented Steven Adler. Again catchy lyrics hit here, but the guitar is lacking. Though Adler on the skins more than makes up for the lack of decent guitar on track 3. Track 5 is another great song, as we again see the percussion skills of Steven Adler. Mr. Brownstone is a great song, with decent enough guitar, great percussion, and great lyrics. One would think that Axl and company would be running out of hits by track 6. Think again: Paradise City knocks one over in the 6 hole. This is the first time on the albumt that one can really see what mad skills Slash and Izzy Stradlin have. The dueling guitars can be heard, and the guitar work would be enough to make this song an instant classic. Though the percussion is awesome, and Axl's vocals on this song are superb, making for another hit for the boys from L.A. The last classic on the album is Sweet Child O'Mine at track 9. The rift at the beginning of this song is enough to make it great. The lyrics are the best ever done by Guns N' Roses and, and Axl might never have done a better song vocally. You're Crazy at 10 rounds the CD out very nicely, it is okay, but not the classics that the other tracks listed above are. No track on this disk is bad, except for My Michelle at 7. The rest are very good tracks, and would be considered classics by today's music fans. My advice. Pick up a copy of this cd, because it truly defined the '80's and it is a must have for any rock fan

Free Music Review: the greatest hard rock CD ever
Hit: 5 Stars

UYI 1 was bad exept for Live & Let Die & November Rain, and UYI 2
was okay. This turns out the best rock album in the whole
world. The mean dirty sexy drug songs are My Michelle, Your Crazy, & Anything Goes. Sometimes this album is very boring. The
best band in the whole world ever was Dire Straits because Mark
Knopfler was the best vocalist. Anyway REVIEW all these songs.

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE-Instant classic! Axl makes you want to laugh sinngling this little song. It's a very funny classic with
slash doing his best riff.

IT'S SO EASY-Kinda stupid. The music is great but the lyrics are
totally god damn stupid. Axl will kill you in this song.

NIGHT TRAIN-Great rock song, but kinda the reapeative song ever!
This song seems like that Axl has been smoking nicoteen during this song.

OUT TO GET ME-Kinda song that Dizzy Lamb wants to hear and how
Pablo Sanchez hates this song. It's so great but not the greatest.

MR BROWNSTONE-One of my favorite songs ever! This riff is so amazing and vocals are never stupid or mean. This is Dizzy Lamb's
favorite song on the entire CD.

PARADISE CITY-Kyle Buhman bought this album for this song and
this is one of my favorite songs on the cd. The riff is so amazing. Another instant classic!

MY MICHIELLE-I hate this song! It is stupid, mean, ugly, dull, sex, drugs, liquor, violence, nicoteen, and it is the weakest
song on the entire cd. I think I'll kill Axl rose in this song.
This song sounds simular to Back in Black. KILL YOU KILL YOU AXL!

THINK ABOUT YOU-Greg Maddux loves this song. It is not a great
intro but it is quite good.

SWEET CHILD OF MINE-Their best song. A great intro to a Backyard
Baseball 2005 game with the Oakland Athletics. Dizzy Lamb loves
this song and this is one of the best songs to Heavy Fuel.

YOUR CRAZY-Sex, drugs, liqour, mean, dirty, violenty, and ugly.
I hate this song. KILL THIS SONG WITH AXL.

ANYTHING GOES-HATE HATE HATE! Never tune to listen to. It is mean
dirty, ugly, dull, sexy, druggy, & violenty. KILL AXL ROSE RIGHT
NOW.

ROCKET QUEEN-A great closing track with a very sad ending.

This album is so darn boring. Buy On Every Street insted.

Free Music Review: Put Metal in its Place
Hit: 5 Stars

At the time Appetite came out, matel was pretty much a joke, with cartoons like Motley Crue making hit songs. Nobody notice Appetite at first, not even when "Welcome to the Jungle" was released for the first time. When a little ballad called "Sweet Child O' Mine" came out it propelled GNR into the spotlight. Here's how the album stacks up:
1. Welcome to the Jungle 10/10- Amazing hard-rocker with amazing guitars, vocals, and bass. It is easy to hear the influence of Zeppelin (can anybody say "Immigrant Song"?), it is still a towering rock masterpiece.
2. It's So Easy 6/10- A step down from the first song, is better live than in the studio.
3. Night Train 6/10- A good enough song, but not memorable.
4. Out Ta Get Me 9/10- Even with the unnecessary obscenity, this is still a great song. Driving guitars and screaming vocals make this song worthwhile.
5. Mr. Brownstone 10/10- A masterpiece about heroin addiction, boasts an impressive guitar solo by Slash and a tune that stays in your mind and gets better with every listen.
6. Paradise City 10/10- Outstanding song with great lyrics and great performances by the entire band. A true rock masterpiece.
7. My Michelle 9/10- A haunting intro leads into pounding guitars and booming vocals by Axl. Sad, chilling song could a been a fourth single.
8. Think About You 7/10- Is to this album what "My Girl" is to Aerosmith's Pump. Okay song but seems unnecessary.
9. Sweet Child O' Mine 10/10- The song that put Guns N Roses on the map, has a good opening riff, but doesn't become memorable until Slash uses the wah-wah pedal. The last 2:00 makes this song go from great to masterpiece.
10. You're Crazy 8/10- More unnecessary obscenity, is still a fast paced song with good guitars.
11. Anything Goes 3/10- Terrible song, the only bad one on the album. Extremely annoying, should still be collecting dust in Izzy's basement.
12. Rocket Queen 8/10 Good guitars in this two part song. The woman's orgasm in the middle makes me more uncomfortablethan turned on. It's a good enough song, but a poor ending song.
If you are a fan of hard rock, metal or any of those modern bands that call themselves metal, such as Korn or Limp Bizkit, do yourself a favor and buy Appetite for Destruction and learn what a real good guitar solo is.

Free Music Review: True relief from the hair band era
Hit: 5 Stars

This album blew me away when I first heard of it. I was eleven at the time, and I will never forget the day I heard of it. All the songs gave me gooseflesh, Almost made me want to pick up a guitar and learn how to play it.

I started fifth grade that year, and I played the tape every chance I had, Of course no walkmans were allowed in school, so I went to class, hummed the songs, went home, and blasted the cassette while I was doing my schoolwork. That year instead of getting a guitar to learn to play music, I got a clarinet. I learned the notes of the songs and played single notes with the album, the guitar riffs, the vocal lines, wishing I knew how to play guitar.

Two summers later a friend of my dad's left an acoustic guitar at our house for months. I took it out of its case and started plucking the strings. I played my Appetite tape, and learned to tune the guitar down to match the notes of the songs. My father showed up later, wondering what I was doing with his friends' guitar. I just told him that I wanted to learn how to play guitar, so he showed me the basic chords. Not enough to play Welcome to the Jungle, Nightrain, or even the interesting one, Sweet Child O' Mine (that intro sounded horrible on a clarinet) I did learn the chords to Sweet Child, and I was thrilled that I could finally learn.

Now I am 27 years old, a travelling musician, and a renound music lover. I think back on listening to this album and it was a huge thing back in it's day, and still stands the test of time, as far as albums are concerned. It in my opinion ranks up there with Electric Ladyland, Back In Black, and Master of Puppets. It also gave a lot of us music fans something different than looking at MTV every day, looking at Bon Jovi smile every second of the day with his bubble gum rock. A sigh of relief for all of us.

I probably didn't write the best of reviews but this album is worth the time and money. It may change your life, if you let it, but most of all, it's more of a wake up call, for people that are too used to the everyday things that happen. I still listen to this album and think that it's changed my life, even if later the band itself plummeted to the ground. Appetite For Destruction is an album that time will (hopefully) never forget
